This study is aimed at investigating the effects of school violence on adolescent depression and suicide, where both the mediating effects of resilency and the gender diffences are considered. The data, collected from 664 high and middle school students, were examined by the statistics software SPSS 17.0 and AMOS 17.0, in which descriptive statistics, factor analysis, structural equation model analysis, and multi-group simultaneous analysis are utilized. As a result, it is shown from the structural equation modeling that school violence have positive effects on depression and suicide, but negative effects on family and academic resiliency. Both ego and family resiliency act as protective factors, negatively affecting the depression. In addition, the family resiliency had negative effects on suicide. The results of multi-group simultaneous analysis imply that school violence have different effects on suicide and family resiliency respectively, depending on gender differences. Female adolescents are affected more strongly than male adolescents.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to identify the effects of Tai Chi training program on physical fitness, stress response and ego-resiliency in nursing students. Methods: 28 nursing students of D metropolitan city participated in non-equivalent control group pre- and post-test group test in quasi experimental design with written consent. Fourteen participants in the control group who did usual activities and 14 experimental participants who promised to participate 24 Tai Chi training sessions for 12 weeks. Both groups completed pre- and post-test measurement for physical fitness, a questionnaire regarding their stress response and ego-resiliency. Each 60-minute Tai Chi session was consisted of 5-minute warm up, 10-minute meditation, 40-minute Tai Chi, and 5-minute finishing exercise. Results: After 12 weeks, participants in the Tai Chi group reported significantly higher score in muscle endurance (t=3.77, p=.001), leg muscular strength (t=2.14, p=.042), and balance (t=2.12, p=.044) compared to the control group. The Tai Chi group recorded significantly lower score than the control group on stress response (t=2.75, p=.011). Conclusion: The findings highlight the importance of Tai Chi for a reduction in stress response and promotion in physical fitness in nursing students. Applying Tai Chi training to nursing program will help nursing students to have better academic performance.
Purpose: The prevalence of problematic internet usage among college students is a cause for concern. There is a lack of study examining influences of cognitive protecting or buffering factors on internet addiction among college students. The purpose of this study was to examine influences of depression, ego-resilience, and active stress coping on internet addiction tendency (IAT) among college students. Methods: A cross-sectional, descriptive design was used. Data were collected between October and December 2013. A convenience sample of 244 students completed self-report questionnaires consisting of Ego-resiliency Scale, Ways of Coping Checklist, Center for Epidemiologic Studies-Depression, and Self-report Scale for Internet Use. Stepwise multiple regression analysis was performed for data analysis. Results: We found that higher levels of depression were associated with higher levels of IAT. However, an inverse association was found between active stress coping and IAT. Students who mainly used the internet for chatting showed lower levels of IAT than those who used the internet for games or blogs. These factors explained 15.1% of the variance in IAT of college students. Conclusion: The study results suggest that stress coping strategies and depression are important factors for evaluation when developing intervention programs targeting college students with problematic internet use.
This study is a descriptive investigation into the relationship between the degree of the reality shock and the self-efficacy, social support, and ego-resilience of nursing students and the factors that influence their reality shock. The study shows that self-efficacy, social support, and ego-resilience are related with reality shock. The regression analysis shows that self-efficacy, social support, and ego-resilience account for 27.1% of the reality shock. The research results verify self-efficacy, social support, and ego-resilience as factors that influence reality shock. So, it is necessary to develop programs and explore support plans that take into account self-efficacy, social support, and ego-resilience with the aim of relieving the nursing students reality shock. Looking ahead, further studies need to be conducted with expanded objects of investigation with the aim of drawing more attention to the reality shock of nursing students and generalizing research results.

Purpose: This study was done to examine whether risk of suicidal ideation in nursing students as related to social support and ego-resilience, and whether subjective wellbeing mediated the relationships. Methods: Structural equation modeling was applied to test the model in which ego-resilience and social support from family, friends, and others were considered as exogenous variables and subjective wellbeing as a mediating variable. The participants were 285 nursing students who completed self-report measures including the Suicidal Ideation Questionnaire, the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, the Ego-Resiliency Scale, and the Index of Wellbeing. Results: Results show that higher scores on family support and ego-resilience were positively associated with subjective wellbeing and negatively with suicidal ideation. Subjective wellbeing mediated the relationships between family support and suicidal ideation, and also ego-resilience and suicidal ideation. Among the three social supports, only family social support had both direct and indirect effects on suicidal ideation. Conclusion: Findings suggest that family support is a useful resource in the prevention of suicidal ideation in nursing students and building supportive relationship with family should be considered as the first step in suicide prevention strategies. Also enhancing ego-resilience could play an important role to reduce suicide risk through promoting well-being.

The participants were 235 nursing students at four different colleges located in B U City. A questionnaire survey was conducted on those students to determine their ego-resiliency, view of the nursing profession, and satisfaction with the nursing department. The data were collected from October 16th to November 25th, 2015. The collected data were analyzed using a t-test and ANOVA in accordance with SPSS 18.0. A post-test was then conducted through a $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and the stepwise multiple regression. These findings can be summarized as follows. All factors affecting nursing the students' satisfaction with their department had an explanatory power of 25.3%. Of those factors, the view of the nursing profession was highest in the explanatory power, or 19.9%. That power increased to 24.4% when ego-resiliency was added as another factor. This also increased to 25.3% when peer relations were added. Based on the study results, this study suggests that it is necessary to develop and apply an educational strategy to improve the nursing profession for the nursing department.
Purpose: This study was conducted to develop a program to help emergency nurses overcome compassion fatigue, and to analyze the effects of the program. Methods: A nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design was used. There were 14 participants in the experimental group and 18 subjects in the control group. The program was comprised of five, weekly 80-minute sessions including understanding and assessment of compassion fatigue, enhancing positive affect, balancing work-life, planning self care, training in relaxation techniques and cognitive restructuring, and getting social support. Research variables were ego-resiliency, compassion satisfaction and compassion fatigue of the ProQOL 5, and salivary cortisol. Data were analyzed using Chi-square test, independent t-test, and paired t-test. Results: The first hypothesis, "There will be a difference in scores for ego resiliency between the experimental group and the control group". was not supported. The second hypothesis, "There will be a difference in scores for compassion satisfaction between the experimental group and the control group" was supported (t=2.15, p=.046). The third hypothesis, "There will be a difference in scores for compassion fatigue between the experimental group and the control group" was not supported. Conclusion: The first program for emergency nurses to overcome compassion fatigue in Korea was effective in increasing emergency nurses' compassion satisfaction and decreasing salivary cortisol level in the experimental group. Therefore, this program for overcoming compassion fatigue is useful to increase emergency nurses' compassion satisfaction. However replication studies of short-term intensive program reflecting emergency nurses' opinion are needed.
