This study explored relationships between internal locus of control, ego-resilience, and behavior problems including effects of ego-resilience as mediating variables of behavior problems in 135 institutionalized children. Instruments were the Locus of Control (Min, 1999) and Ego-resilience (Yoon et al. 2001) scales and Korea-Child Behavior Checklist (Oh et al., 1997). Locus of control was administered to the children; ego-resilience and behavior problems were rated by teachers. Findings were that (1) internal locus of control related positively to ego-resilience and negatively to behavior problems; ego-resilience related negatively to behavior problems. (2) Effects of internal locus of control on behavior problems were mediated by ego-resilience; ego-resilience sub-factors of peer relationships and comprehension ability mediated relationships between internal locus of control and behavior problems.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between marriage migration females' acculturative stress and marital adjustment, especially the mediating and moderating effects of ego-resilience. The structural equation models were tested by setting marriage migration females' acculturative stress as a prediction variable, their marital adjustment as an outcome variable and their ego-resilience as mediator and moderator variables. The sample consisted of 172 marriage migration females from Busan. I analyzed the data using correlation analysis in order to discover the correlation coefficient of those variables among acculturative stress, ego-resilience and marital adjustment. I used the structural equation model (SEM) for investigating the relationship among acculturative stress, ego-resilience and marital adjustment and for investigating the mediating effects of ego-resilience. I also used multiple group analysis and two way ANOVA to investigate the moderating effects of ego-resilience. The results of structural equation modeling were as follows: first, it was proved that ego-resilience was exerted as a mediating variable, because acculturative stress appeared to affect marital adjustment in relation to ego-resilience. Therefore, marital adjustment was evident when ego-resilience was low. Second, it was proved that ego-resilience was exerted as a moderating variable, because those with low ego-resilience experienced high acculturative stress and low marital adjustment, and those with high ego-resilience experienced low acculturative stress and high marital adjustment. Such findings point out the importance of considering personal characteristics, like ego-resilience, in the relationship between acculturative stress and marital adjustment.
This essay examines the ego (I-Subject) problem in Husserl's phenomenology and consists of four parts, as follows. Section I describes the meaning of this research on ego and some important points to note in relation to this study. Section II discusses two aspects of the problem of pure ego, which appears as an ego-problem for the first time. The first aspect is the two opposing positions that Husserl himself took regarding pure ego. Husserl initially rejected pure ego as an object of research in Logische Untersuchungen I (1901) however, he withdrew this position in Logische Untersuchungen II (1913). The second aspect is the content of pure ego that Husserl explored in Ideen I (1913) after he accepted pure ego as a phenomenological problem. The theme of section III is the "theory of three egos" which appeared in Ideen II (1912, 1952). Here, two issues have been noted, one of which is the methodological basis for enabling this theory: the phenomenological "attitude change" (Einstellungsaenderung) and the "Underlying" (Fundierung). The other is the explanation of the content of the three egos: the "physical ego", "personal ego" and the "pure ego". Section IV concerns two themes of the "monadic ego" that appeared in the Cartesianische Meditationen (1931). The first theme is the theoretical premise for the establishment of the monadic ego. In conjunction with this theme, phenomenological-psychological reduction was used as a new method to open up new problem horizons. The second theme brings up the content of the monadic ego, the essence of which can be summarized as follows. 1) This ego is based on a pluralistic and independent ego-concept in which each ego is equal to its own self. 2) It must be asked whether each of the monadic egos is different from one another. 3) The "other" of a certain transcendental ego is not the ego-other relationship but ego-another ego (alter-ego). 4) This phenomenological monadic ego can mutually communicate with alter-egos through empathy, unlike Leibniz's metaphysical monads.
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships between ego- resilience and stress coping styles of adolescents. The study also tried to identify differences on stress coping styles based on the level of ego- resilience of adolescents. Ego-resilience showed positive correlations with problem-focused and social support seeking coping styles and a negative correlation with an emotion-focused coping style. Canonical Correlation analysis revealed that self-confidence among four sub-domains of ego-resilience made the most outstanding contributions in predicting stress coping styles of adolescents. The problem-focused coping style had the highest correlation with ego-resilience among the four coping styles. The group of adolescents who had a higher level of ego-resilience reported more problem-focused and social support-seeking coping styles in stressful situations. The results of this study suggested that development of ego-resilience of adolescents who were in the midst of transitions and adjustment problems was important for effective coping strategies.
This study investigated the impact of parents' marital conflict and adult attachment on ego-resiliency among college students. The participants were three hundred sixty six undergraduate students (118 men and 248 women) enrolled in a university in Gyeongbuk Province. Survey questionnaires were used to measure parents' marital conflict perceived by the students, adult attachment, and ego-resiliency. Data were analyzed by means, standard deviations, t-tests, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe test, correlation, and multiple regressions. Results are summarized in the following: (1) Male students' ego-resiliency level was higher than lunate students'. (2) Students' ego-resiliency was higher in the group whose parents remained married than in the group whose parents did not. (3) The level of parents' marital conflict perceived by students was negatively correlated with their ego-resiliency. The level of adult attachment was positively correlated with students' ego-resiliency. (4) Regression analysis showed that adult attachment was more influential on college students' ego-resiliency than parents' marital conflict as perceived by the students.
Efficient Global Optimization (EGO) method is a global optimization technique which can select the next sample point automatically by infill sampling criteria (ISC) and search for the global minimum with less samples than what the conventional global optimization method needs. ISC function consists of the predictor and mean square error (MSE) provided from the kriging model which is a stochastic metamodel. Also the constrained EGO method can minimize the objective function dealing with the constraints under EGO concept. In this study the constrained EGO method applied to the RAE2822 airfoil shape design formulated with the constraint. But the noisy CFD data caused the kriging model to fail to depict the true function. The distorted kriging model would make the EGO deviate from the correct search. This distortion of kriging model can be handled with the interpolation(p=free) kriging model. With the interpolation(p=free) kriging model, however, the search of EGO solution was stalled in the narrow feasible region without the chance to update the objective and constraint functions. Then the accuracy of EGO solution was not good enough. So the three-step search method was proposed to obtain the accurate global minimum as well as prevent from the distortion of kriging model for the noisy constrained CFD problem.
The purposes of this study were to find the correlation of social maladaptation, depression, ego resilience and daily life satisfaction, and to explore the mediating role of ego resilience between social maladaptation, depression and daily life satisfaction. The subject of the survey was 184 intermarried Korean men. The data were analyzed with frequency, Pearson's correlation and structural equation modeling by SPSS and AMOS. Instruments were social maladapatation and depression of Shin(2001)'s Mental Health Scale, Block and Kremen(1996)'s Ego Resilience Scale, and Bradburn(1969)'s Structure of Psychological well-being, and Olson and Barnes(1982)' Quality of Life. The major findings were as follows: Social maladapataion and depression were negatively correlated with ego resilience and daily life satisfaction. Ego resilience was positively correlated with daily life satisfaction. Ego resilience mediated the effects of social maladaptation, depression and daily life satisfaction. Social maladaptation and depression influenced ego resilience. Ego resilience influenced positively daily life satisfaction. In conclusion, it is important to intervene intermarried Korean men's daily life satisfaction through special education program and counseling in order to build ego resilience.
This study was carried out to obtain baseline data on the causes of industrial accidents and their prevention by investigating structural models between the Shipyard workers' egogram ego-states (CP: Critical Parent, NP: Nurturing Parent, A: Adult, FC: Free Child, AC: Adapted Child), safe and unsafe behaviors, and industrial accidents (frequency/severity). In order to achieve this goal, 378 workers from 3 locations of major corporations in Geojedo Island and Ulsan took a questionnaire, which was then analyzed with a structural equation model using the SPSS 23.0 and AMOS 24 statistics package, and the main results of the study are as follows. First, NP and A's ego-states had a positive influence on safe behavior, AC's ego-state had a negative influence on safe behavior, and A's ego-state had the largest influence on safe behavior. Second, CP and AC's ego-states had a positive influence on unsafe behavior, and A's ego-state had a negative influence on unsafe behavior. AC's ego-state had the largest influence on unsafe behavior. Third, safe behavior did not have a significant influence on industrial accidents. However, unsafe behavior had a positive influence on industrial accident frequency and industrial accident severity, both sub-factors of industrial accidents. This study, despite its limitations, such as sampling limitations, has the following significance. First, this study verified that ego-state, a psychological characteristic, is an important factor for predicting unsafe behavior that induces industrial accidents. Second, in order to reduce industrial accidents, there is a need to stimulate the A ego-states, and promote continuous safety management and safety education to neutralize the AC ego-state. Third, previous studies were limited in the area of practical methods for reducing unsafe behaviors, but this study presents practical methods for reducing unsafe behaviors by verifying the structural relationship between safe/unsafe behaviors and industrial accidents by selecting ego-gram ego-states, variable personality theory, as an independent variable.
This study focused on the relationship between ego- resilience and stress coping styles of male and female adolescents. The study also tried to identify differences in stress coping styles based on sexual differences and the level of ego- resilience in adolescents. Ego-resilience showed a positive correlation to problem-focused and social support seeking coping styles and a negative correlation to emotion-focused coping style for both male and female adolescents. Canonical Correlation analysis revealed that self-confidence among four sub-domains of ego-resilience made the most outstanding contributions in predicting stress coping styles of female adolescents. The self-confident female adolescents tended to use the problem-focused coping style. For male adolescents, the optimistic attitude among four sub-domains of ego-resilience was the most significant factor in predicting emotion-focused coping style. Female adolescents tended to use more varied coping strategies than male adolescents in stressful situations. The group of adolescents who had a higher level of ego-resilience reported more problem-focused and social support- seeking coping styles in stressful situations. Conversely the group of adolescents with lower level of ego-resilience tended to use emotion-focused coping strategy. The results of this study have important implications for theory, research, and practice. Development of ego-resilience in adolescents based on sexual differences was an important task for their effective coping strategies.
Purpose: This study was aimed to clarify the concept of ego-resiliency in the context of nursing and to propose a definition of ego-resiliency. Methods: Rodgers' evolutionary approach to concept analysis was used to identify common attributes, antecedents, and consequences of the term ego-resiliency. A literature search of the RISS, NDSL, NAL, CINAHL, PubMed, MEDLINE, PsycINFO, and Scopus databases from 1980 to 2014 was conducted, using the key words of ego-resiliency, ego-resilience, and ego-resilient. Thirty-four relevant articles and one book were finally selected and throughly reviewed. Results: The results of the concept analysis concluded that ego-resiliency was a individualized, integrated, and coping resource and capacity leading personal adaptive capacity including physical, psychological, social well being in various adversity and challenge of life. Conclusion: The findings of this study warranted nursing research on a development of nursing intervention related with ego-resiliency as a pivotal personal characteristic. By doing so, better understanding of human and health within the context of nursing could be achieved.
