The Energy-efficiency Analysis of Companies in Korea Using DEA (DEA를 활용한 국내 기업의 에너지효율성 분석)

  • This paper suggests energy efficiency which can be the foundation on corporate profit and effective energy management following by change of global climate and of energy-related regulations. Using comparable financial information and information related to energy use, an DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) model has been used to identify energy efficiency with DMU (Decision Making Unit)s which are companies subjected to reduce greenhouse gas emission in 2009. Through this research, different from existing researches, environmental variables which can influence on energy efficiency are identified. The results show as follows. First, most of companies follow IRS, which means scale of economy exists among units so that they have more opportunity to increase efficiency by increasing scale of inputs. Second, this research identified that depending on the difference of environmental characters such as the emission structure and the size of companies, energy efficiency of the companies turns out differently.

  • This paper evaluates the technical efficiency of organic farm management practices and studies its main determinants in Hongdongmyeon of Hongsung county, Chungnam province. The analysis is performed in two stages. First, the efficiency is measured via the nonparametric "Data Envelopment Analysis" (DEA) technique. The DEA models are constructed not only to assess the overall technical efficiency of organic fanning practices but also to evaluate the management efficiencies. In a second stage critical determinants of efficiency are determined using a Tobit model. In this analysis the focus is on technical and socio-economic variables. The analytical results show that technically efficient farms is about 13 percent and the mean technical efficiency is found to be 0.73 indicating that many farms are not operating at an efficient scale.

  • Recently, a lot of effort has been made to reinforce the profitability of the company through successful overseas expansion as one of the major ways to secure the competitiveness and to increase the business value these days. So, this study aims to try to analyse of the status of the overseas expansion case for the recent power industry through the case of the Korea Western Power Co., Ltd. as a measure of the management efficiency strategy of the public sector organization, and to present the policy implications about the management efficiency in the future by drawing upon the management efficiency strategy. This paper suggests alternatives as follows: First, the competitiveness should be reinforced through continuous change and innovation and the management efficiency should be developed. Second, the governance system for public-private sector should be constructed. Third, the efficient management of the global human resources is needed. Fourth, the mutual confidence-building through the active contribution to the community activities is required.

A Study on Economical Efficiency Evaluation of Semiforcing under Structure Watermelon Cultivators (반촉성 시설수박 재배농가의 경제적 효율성 분석)

  • Technical efficiency of semiforcing watermelon growers is 0.8248 on average, and distributed between 0.6744 and 0.9268. The result showed that semiforcing watermelon growers had by 18% of technical inefficiency and could be assumed that increasing technical efficiency could induce watermelon production more increase. Consequently, if growers' technical efficiency were improved while other environments were constant, watermelon production could be increased. Following the results from the inefficiency effect model, all assumption coefficient such as growers age etc, are significant at 10% level. Estimate of dispersion parameter ${\gamma}$ is 0.89, which confirms those differences between practical output and frontier output were derived from the technical efficiencies among growers. Differences of production system between high and low level growers in production efficiency were showed at side altitude, ventilation and heat-retaining in section of facilities and automation, soil test and calcium application in section of environment management, transplant preparation and duration of pollination in section of crop management and shipment place, sorting degree and management record analysis in section of business management respectively. As a result of analyzing consulting data by using standard diagnosis table of watermelon cultivation under structure which cultivated on semi-forced watermelon growers, gap between high and low level growers was 7.0 points in facility automation section, 7.1 points in environment section, 8.8 points in crop management section and 13.6 points in business management section, respectively, which were the biggest one among them. In case of excluding information-related items from the evaluation index of business management section, changes of business achievement are to occur. Therefore, it is recommended for us to review the standard diagnostic table of watermelon cultivation under structure by dividing evaluation index of management section into management and information.

The Effect of Green Transformation on the Operating Efficiency of Green M&A Enterprises: Evidence from China

  • Environmental protection has been infused into the development of numerous fields by the Chinese government. The government's implementation of green development has also shifted its focus to green transformation and governance of highpolluting companies. In the context of green and sustainable development, this study employs DEA data envelopment analysis to compare the operating efficiency of listed firms that implemented Green Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) in China in 2018. The conclusions of this study are as follows: First, China's green M&A enterprises are unevenly dispersed among the country's east, middle, and western regions. Second, compared to before the implementation of Green M&A, operational efficiency has improved in most industries. Third, the difference in Green M&A across industries is generally favorable, showing that most organizations have improved their operational performance as a result of Green M&A implementation. In 2018, however, the gap in operating efficiency is more negative. Fourth, whereas the eastern and western areas' operational efficiency has improved as a result of Green M&A, the central region's has not. Based on this conclusion, this study makes recommendations for China's future sustainable development of heavily polluted firms.

  • With the interest on operational efficiency due to the rapid growth of food material distribution industry and food service industry, the study adopts DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) model and examines to measure the technological, pure technical and scale efficiency those companies engaging in the food material distribution and food service business. As a result of analysis, the companies operating integrated business have relatively higher efficiency than those operating only food material distribution or food service companies while the result indicates that three efficiencies don't have significant difference depending on whether affiliated companies or not.   • The purpose of this empirical study is to evaluate efficiency of the regional public hospitals, using DEA(Data Envelopment Analysis). to do this, we design a DEA-AR/AHP Hybrid model to evaluate efficiency of 34 Regional Public Hospitals. the proposed model is developed by adding Acceptance Region(AR). using analytical hierarchy process(AHP). this model is compared with those of typical DEA models. Financial data used in this study were obtained from Database of the Korea Association Regional Public Hospital and analyzed using DEA model. As a result of analysis, This study found that the DEA-AR/AHP Hybrid model was superior to those typical DEA models in determining the priority among efficient hospitals. the result of this study can provide helpful information to evaluate the efficiency of public hospitals for efficient operational management, to develop more precise measurement for the priority of the efficient hospitals.

An Efficiency Analysis of Supply Chain Quality Management Using the Multi-stage DEA Model: Focused on the Domestic Defense Industry Companies (다단계 DEA 모형을 활용한 공급망 품질경영 효율성 분석: 국내 방산업체를 대상으로)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to present a methodology for assessing the efficiency of supply chain quality management considering characteristics of defense industries to provide academic and policy implications for strengthening quality competitiveness of military supplies. Methods: Using the defense industry's empirical data, conduct an efficiency evaluation by utilizing a multi-stage DEA/Entropy Model for defense industries subject to the quality level survey of military goods manufacturers in 2017. Results: The results of this study are as follows; the first step of the multi-stage DEA model, Quality Management Performance Efficiency Analysis, shows that the CCR model and the BCC model are more efficient than the parent company. the second stage of the multi-stage DEA model showed that the CCR model was slightly more efficient than the parent company and the BCC model was more efficient than the parent.the overall efficiency value of the multistage DEA model, calculated by multipointing the efficiency value of the first stage by the second stage, was more efficient than the parent. Conclusion: The results of this study show that the efficiency of supply chian quality management performance and profitability in the defense industry can be analyzed for the first time using the multistage DEA/Entropy model to identify specific inefficiencies and support objective decision making.

The Relation between Management Efficiency and Financial Performance in Public Institutions

  • This study aims to analyze the relation between management efficiency and financial performance in public institutions. Based on 135 public institutions published in public business information system from 2017 to 2020, Data Envelopment Analysis(DEA) for estimating management efficiency was performed. This study analyzed the relationship between DEA and financial performance included ROA and ROS using multi-regression analysis. The results of this study are as follows; We find that there is significant positive relation between management efficiency and ROA. We also find this significant relation in model with ROS. This finding implies that management efficiency a factor that improve financial performance in public institutions. The results of this study can provide an important empirical evidence for evaluating the strategy of governance to improve financial performance by enhancing management efficiency.

  • TPM(Total Productive Management) that is enforcing introducing more than $80\%$ in domestic manufacturing industry is using total plant efficiency by the evaluation index, and as a result, can see a lot of examples that plant productivity is increased. This study's purpose centers total productive management activities that is management system for total plant efficiency's maximization, plant information system that total productive management activities factor that is enforcing in manufacturing industry can develop evaluation model that can evaluate qualitative activities by quantitative activities in process that maximize total plant efficiency wishes to do design.
