  • In this paper, 3-D reciprocating compressor is taken into flow-structure interaction analysis. The full cycle process consisted of cylinder expansion and compression has been modeled without considering flow leakage through cylinder wall. Fully-coupled FSI analysis of this compressor model was iteratively solved and gives sufficient result with the experimental test. The study is emphasized to thoroughly investigate discharge valve motion, opening and closing, in order to determine discharge valve region which is prone to have high effective stress. The cylinder pressure is successfully validated before conducting impact analyses between discharge valve and other susceptible supported structure. Velocity profile has been obtained in FSI analysis is used as initial condition to carry out further impact analyses. Stress result of discharge valve and valve spring gives preliminary estimation of higher stress area due to its impact phenomena.

  • This study analyzed the hydraulic characteristics of a venturi flume with a circular cone using a 3-D numerical model which uses RANS(Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes Equation) as the governing equation. The venturi flume with the circular cone efficiently measures the discharge in the low-flow to high-flow range and offers the advantage of accurate discharge measurements in the case of a low flow. With no influence of the tail-water depth, the stage-discharge relationship and the flow behaviors were analyzed to verify the numerical simulation results. Additionally, this study reviewed the effect of the tail-water depth on the flow. The stage-discharge relationship resulting from a numerical simulation in the absence of an effect by the tail-water depth showed a maximum margin of error of 4 % in comparison to the result of a hydraulic experiment. The simulation results reproduced the overall flow behaviors observed in the hydraulic experiment well. The flow starts to become influenced by the tail-water depth when the ratio of the tail-water depth to the total head exceeds approximately 0.7. As the ratio increases, the effect on the flow tends to grow dramatically. As shown in this study, a numerical simulation is effective for identifying the stage-discharge relationship of a venturi flume with various types of venturi bodies, including a venturi flume with a circular cone.

  • In resist-discharge printing of cotton fabrics with reactive/reactive dyes the effects of both resist agents, benzaldehyde sodium bisulfite(BASB) and glyoxal sodium bisulfite (GSB), and Rongalite on the resist-discharge behaviors of C.I. Reactive Black 5(B1-5), which is disazo type and has two vinylsulfone groups, were investigated. It was confirmed that BASB and GSB were effective resist agents, and about 4% of BASB or about 6% of GSB was proper to obtain successful white or colored resist-discharge results. It was thought that the good resist-dischargeability of BASB was due to the hydrophobicity of bezene in BASB, and also that of GSB resulted from the structural effects caused by two hydroxy groups in GSB and the ease of washing of unactivated reactive dye. Only 5% Rongalite without any resist agents showed good resist-discharge result, but 1~3% Rongalite with 4% BASB brought about the stain of cotton fabric by reddish monoazo products produced by insufficient cleavage of two azo groups in Bl-5.

  • Gas removal characteristics of an air clean system, consisted of a filter and a nonthermal discharge plasma reactor with a magnetic field, have been investigated with emphasis on the enhancing gas removal efficiency of the applied magnetic field. It is found that the magnetic field influenced significantly to the corona discharge characteristics, decreasing the corona onset voltage and increasing the corona current. As a result, the proposed air clean system with the magnetic field showed the higher removal efficiency of the gas (e.g., trimethlyamine) than that of without the magnetic field. This would be because the magnetic field applied to the discharge plasma reactor of the air clean system can elevate the corona characteristics, and activate the generation of ozone, thus the removal efficiency of the gas was concurrently enhanced. This reveals that the proposed air clean system with the magnetic field could be used as an effective means of removal an indoor pollutant gas.

  • We report the characteristics and differences of two types of attenuation measurement methods for electromagnetic partial discharge signal in GIS. The pulse method is to measure the attenuated waveforms in time domain and coverts them into frequency domain to get the attenuation spectra of given GIS section. This method simulates the real partial discharge signal. The frequency swept continuous wave method can obtain attenuation spectra directly so that it gives attenuation with low noise floor and simplicity. We show that both methods are effective and exchangeable because the attenuation results measured by two methods have similar trends

  • This study has been conducted in order to develop a temperature-controlled round pan diffuser with variable-openings. Flow visualization was performed to investigate the airflow patterns according to gap openings. The velocity profiles were measured using an omni-directional anemometer for two cases, i.e. a horizontal and a vertical discharge conditions. Numerical simulation also confirms there is a narrow range of gap openings where a horizontal discharge shifts to a vertical discharge. The air distribution performance index increases abruptly when the air discharge shifts from vertical to horizontal direction.

  • Our previous experimental and numerical investigations of decelerated swirling flows in conical diffusers have demonstrated that water jet injection along the symmetry axis mitigates the pressure fluctuations associated with the precessing vortex rope. However, for swirling flows similar to Francis turbines operated at partial discharge, the jet becomes effective when the jet discharge is larger than 10% from the turbine discharge, leading to large volumetric losses when the jet is supplied from upstream the runner. As a result, we introduce the flow-feedback approach for supplying the jet by using a fraction of the discharge collected downstream the conical diffuser. Experimental investigations on mitigating the pressure fluctuations generated by the precessing vortex rope and investigations of pressure recovery coefficient on the cone wall with and without flow-feedback method are presented.

  • The partial discharge testing is widely used in insulation property measurement because it gives low stress to high voltage equipment which is undertaken tests. Therefore it is very useful method compare to previous destructive methods and effective diagnosis method in power transformer that requires live-line diagnosis. But partial discharges have very complex characteristics of discharge pattern so it is required continuous research to development of precise analysis method. In recent, the study of partial discharge is carrying out discover of initial defect of power equipment through condition diagnosis and system development of degradation diagnosis using HFPD(High Frequency Partial Discharge) detection. In this study, simulated transformer is manufactured and HFPD occurred from transformer is measured with broad band antenna in real time, the degradation grade of transformer is analyzed through produced patterns in simulated transformer according to applied voltages.

  • In order to development of diagnosis system for mold transformer, partial discharge measurement technique is recommended the best effective method for the evaluation of insulation condition on high voltage winding part. However, this technique was not applied to mold transformer yet. The purpose of this paper is to describe the method of partial discharge measurement for mold transformer with coupling sensor and measuring system. As we reviewed and developed the on-line partial discharge test technique, ceramic coupling sensor, measuring system, terminal box and index parameters.
