복합적층 박스거더의 유효폭 산정을 위한 기초연구 (A Fundamental Study on Effective Width Evaluation of Laminated Composite Box Girder)

  • The domestic and foreign specifications presented the effective width based on flange length to width ratio only. The existing paper on the effective width grasped of the effect of span, load type and cross-section properties, but localized steel bridges. Recently, The studies are going on in progress for the application of fiber reinforced composite material in construction field. Therefore, it is required to optimum design that have a good grasp the deformation characteristic of the displacements and stresses distribution and predict variation of the effective width for serviceability loading. This research addresses the effective width of all composite material box girder bridges using the finite element method. The characteristics of the effective width of composite structures may vary according to several causes, e.g., change of fibers, aspect, etc. Parametric studies were conducted to determine the effective width on the stress elastic analysis of all composite materials box bridges, with interesting observations. The various results through numerical analysis will present an important document for construct all composite material bridges.

Effective Beam Width Coefficients for Lateral Stiffness in Flat-Plate Structures

  • Flat-plate buildings are commonly modeled as two-dimensional frames to calculate unbalanced moments, lateral drift and shear at slab-column connections. The slab-column frames under lateral loads are analyzed using effective beam width models, which is convenient for computer analysis. In this case, the accuracy of this approach depends on the exact values of effective beam width to account for the actual behavior of slab-column connections. In this parametric study, effective beam width coefficients for wide range of the variations are calculated on the several types of slab-column connections, and the results are compared with those of other researches. Also the formulas for effective beam width coefficients are proposed and verified by finite element analysis. The proposed formulas are founded to be more suitable than others for analyzing flat-plate buildings subjected to lateral loading.

콘크리트 비충전 강합성 바닥판의 유효폭 평가 (Evaluation on Effective Width of Concrete Unfilled Composite Steel Grid Deck)

  • 본 연구에서는 합성형교와는 다른 전단연결 상세를 가지는 콘크리트 비충전 강합성 바닥판의 유효폭을 수치적으로 분석하였다. 유효폭 산정 방법 및 위치, 작용하중 크기, 메인 베아링 바 간격-지간장비에 따른 콘크리트 비충전 강합성 바닥판의 유효폭을 평가하였다. 분석 결과 응력 형태를 사다리꼴로 이상화하여 유효폭을 산출하여도 실제 유효폭과 거의 동일한 것으로 분석되었다. 또한, 전단 강도 증가를 위해 적용된 전단홀 관통 철근이 유효폭을 증가 시키는 역할을 하는 것으로 나타났다. 메인 베아링 바 간격-지간장비에 따른 유효폭 분석 결과로부터 콘크리트 비충전강합성 바닥판의 유효폭비를 산출 할 수 있는 보정 계수를 제안하였다.

Effective width of steel-concrete composite beams under negative moments in service stages

  • The effective flange width was usually introduced into elementary beam theory to consider the shear lag effect in steel-concrete composite beams. Previous studies have primarily focused on the effective width under positive moments and elastic loading, whereas it is still not clear for negative moment cases in the normal service stages. To account for this problem, this paper proposed simplified formulas for the effective flange width and reinforcement stress of composite beams under negative moments in service stages. First, a 10-degree-of-freedom (DOF) fiber beam element considering the shear lag effect and interfacial slip effect was proposed, and a computational procedure was developed in the OpenSees software. The accuracy and applicability of the proposed model were verified through comparisons with experimental results. Second, a method was proposed for determining the effective width of composite beams under negative moments based on reinforcement stress. Employing the proposed model, the simplified formulas were proposed via numerical fitting for cases under uniform loading and centralized loading at the mid-span. Finally, based on the proposed formulas, a simplified calculation method for the reinforcement stress in service stages was established. Comparisons were made between the proposed formulas and design code. The results showed that the design code method greatly underestimated the contribution of concrete under negative moments, leading to notable overestimations in the reinforcement stress and crack width.

A method for effective beam widths of slabs in flat plate structures under gravity and lateral loads

  • Effective beam width models are commonly used to obtain the lateral stiffness of flat plate structures. In these models, an effective beam width is defined as the width when the flexural stiffness of the beam element equals the slab stiffness. In this present study, a method to obtain effective beam widths that considers the effects of connection geometry and slab cracking is analytically proposed. The rectangularity of the vertical member for the connection geometry and the combined effects of creep and shrinkage for the slab cracking are considered. The results from the proposed method are compared with experimental results from a test structure having nine slab-column connections.

Analysis of Spray Characteristics of Tractor-mounted Boom Sprayer for Precise Spraying

  • Purpose: This study determines the spray characteristics and effective spray width of a tractor-mounted commercial boom sprayer through experiments. Methods: Performance tests were conducted to investigate the spray characteristics of the nozzles on a commercial boom sprayer. The flow rate and spray width of a single nozzle were measured at three levels of spray pressure (0.5, 0.7, and 1.0 MPa) and spray height (15, 30, and 45 cm), respectively. The average value of three repetition tests was used as the representative value. A coefficient of variation (CV) was used as an index of spray uniformity, and the width that guarantees CV values of approximately 15% was determined as the effective spray width. The spray characteristics of the overall boom sprayer were derived analytically by superimposing the spray characteristics of a single nozzle. Results: The test results for a single nozzle showed that the spray width tended to increase as the spray height and spray pressure increased. The effective spray width for a single nozzle was the largest at a spray pressure of 1.0 MPa and spray height of 45 cm, which resulted in a coverage of 84 cm of width. The effective spray width for the entire boom sprayer was also the largest at the spray pressure of 1.0 MPa and spray height of 45 cm, with a magnitude of 424.5 cm. The chemical spraying work in an actual field was simulated by applying a spray width of 400 cm. As a result of the operation for three swaths, the CV value was less than 10% for 1,200 cm of the overall spray width, which meant that uniform application was achieved. Conclusions: It was reasonable to set the effective spray width of the boom sprayer used in this study to 400 cm.

넥타이의 폭과 체형을 고려한 남성패션 이미지 연구 (A Study on the Image of Male Fashion Considering the Necktie Width and Body Type)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of body type(thin, standard, fat), necktie width(narrow, medium, wide), gender(man, woman) on image formation. Sets of stimulus and response scales(7 point semantic) were used as experimental materials. The stimuli were 9 color pictures manipulated with the combination of necktie-width and body type using computer simulation. The subjects were 116 male undergraduates and 99 female undergraduates living in Gyeongsangnam-do. Image factor of the stimulus was composed of 4 different components, young-activity, attractiveness-gracefulness, stability, and boldness. In the young-activity, attractiveness-gracefulness and stability, body type and necktie-width showed independent effect. In the boldness, body type showed independent effect. Significant interaction effects of body type and necktie-width on young-activity, attractiveness-gracefulness and stability were found. For young-activity image, necktie of narrow width were effective. For attractiveness-gracefulness image, body type of standard were effective. For stability image, body type of standard and body type of thin on necktie of narrow and medium width were effective. The male fashion image can be perceived differently according to combination of the clues used in body type and necktie-width. Therefore, when the male fashion to create images that will have to consider the body type and necktie width.

Toward an accurate effective flange width of composite beams

  • Presented in this paper is the rigorous analysis for the determination of effective flange width for composite beams. To make the solution suitable for routine design, formulas and tables for determining effective flange width for varying load types and geometric shapes are suggested. A variety of effective flange width problems for simple and continuous T- and I-beams can be solved by these tables and formulas. Although they are derived for T- and I-beams with symmetrical shapes, flanges and loads, they can be applied for non-symmetrical cases. Typical numerical examples are given to show how to use the formulas and tables; and their validity and accuracy are assessed by comparison with other known results that are based on the American Codes AISC, AASHTO and ACI.

Resonant Transmission through Slits in a Cavity inside a Thin Conducting Plane

  • In this paper, the problem of electromagnetic transmission via slits in a cavity inside a conducting screen of finite thickness has been considered in the case that the transverse electric(to the slit axis) polarized plane wave is incident on a slit. The problem is solved numerically by the method of moments and the results are compared with those obtained from an equivalent circuit suitable for a case in which the slit width is infinite and the structure is modified to the two partially overlapped conducting planes. It is observed that when the cavity is resonated, the effective slit width reaches its maximum value of $1/\pi$ wavelengths, irrespective of the actual slit width and the incidence angle. When the thickness of the conducting plane is much smaller than the wavelength, the numerical results for the effective slit width(or transmission width) agree well with those obtained from the equivalent circuit, even though the slit is as narrow as the thickness of the conducting plane.

1면 케이블 콘크리트 사장교의 유효플랜지폭 결정에 관한 연구 (Determination of Effective Flange Width in Single Plane Cable-Stayed Concrete Bridge)

  • 도로교설계기준(건설교통부, 2005)에 따르면 바닥판 경간비(B/L)가 0.5이하인 박스거더교에서는 상부플랜지의 전폭이 휨 압축응력 또는 축압축응력에 대하여 유효한 것으로 볼 수 있다. 그러나 세그먼트 자중 등에 의한 휨모멘트와 케이블 수직압축력에 의한 합성응력이 발생되고 바닥판 경간비가 변하는 사장교의 시공단계에서는 전단지연의 영향범위가 다를 수 있다. 이 연구에서는 1면 케이블 콘크리트 박스 사장교를 대상으로 시공단계시 보강형에 고려되어야 할 합성응력에 의한 유효플랜 지폭을 분석하였다. 그 결과 바닥판 경간비가 0.38이하의 범위에서 보강형의 전폭을 유효플랜지폭으로 적용할 수 있는 것으로 해석되었다. 즉, 1면 케이블 박스 사장교의 경우 전단지연을 고려하여 할 범위가 박스거더교보다 커야할 것으로 분석되었다. 따라서 시공단계시 변화되는 바닥판 경간비의 크기에 관계없이 전폭을 유효플랜지폭으로 반영하는 실무관행은 안전측 설계가 되지 못할 수 가 있다. 또한 시공단계시 선단부를 제외한 영역의 합성응력에 대한 검토는 바닥판 경간비가 크게 나타나는 초기 시공단계에서는 단경간 구조계로 보고 산정한 유효플랜지폭을 적용할 경우 안전측 설계가 된다. 그러나 바닥판 경간비가 작아짐에 따라서는 전폭과 캔틸레버 구조계로 유효플랜지폭을 결정하는 것이 타당한 것으로 분석되었다.
