Purpose: The purpose of this study was to establish a structural equation model on social roles and health for married working mothers. to determine the effects of social roles on Korean women's health and to explore the mediating role of self-esteem in the relationship between social roles qualities and health. Method Data were collected from 323 employed women with partner and children. lived in Seoul and near Seoul. Response rate was 62.3%. The instruments for measurements were Role Quality Scale developed by Park et al. (1999). Rosenberg's Self-Esteem Scale. and 31 items from SF-36 developed by Ware & Sherboune(l992). Results: The effect of marital role quality on self-esteem and the effect of parental role quality on health were not significant. Modification model fitted with the collected data very well. as evidenced by the small chi-square(0.58), the very high goodness-of-fit(GFI = 1.00), and adjusted goodness-of-fit (AGFI = 0.99), and very small root mean square residual(RMSR=0.0072), and the slope of Q-plot is over 1. 41% of the variance in self-esteem and 21% of the variance in health were accounted for by these variables. Conclusion: Further research concerned with the mediating effects of self-esteem in the role and health relationship should be covered the issue of various role combinations. And it is necessary to examine the influence of subfactor of quality of social roles on health.

Recently, a submerged breakwater has been installing to prevent the erosion of shoreline everywhere. Artificially submerged breakwater is made to minimize the loss of nourishment sand beach erosion. For this reason, it has been indiscriminately constructed submerged breakwater that is planned in the country throughout. However, maintenance purposes to keep the shoreline of the beach is a method that is quite a few problems. There are also disadvantages such as expensive construction costs, ocean space utilization, water pollution and shoreline modification. In addition, person of utilizing the space of the ocean leisure does not like that because of the disconnection of ocean space. The beaches such as Gwanganri are artificially supplying nourishment sand to maintain the beach. The flexible construction method refers to a structure that is installed as a flexible material instead of submerged breakwater to prevent the loss of nourishment sand. In order to develop a new method to mitigate shoreline erosion, this study was carried out a hydraulic model experiment by installing a cell group as an example of the flexible method. Namely, in order to prevent the loss of nourishment sand, we decided to develop a new method that can mitigate the degree of beaches erosion by using cell group instead of submerged breakwater. In the two dimensional fixed hydraulic experiment, was carried out the effect reducing of wave height and the rate of low reflection due to the installation of the cell group. In movable bed experiment, the capture rate of the nourishment sand and the erosion prevention rate of the nourishment sand was performed for stability of shoreline. Therefore, according to the results of the hydraulic tests, it was possible to maintain the stable beaches due to installing the cell group on the erosion beaches, due to the effect of reducing wave height, the low reflection, the erosion prevention rate of nourishment sand, the high capture rate of nourishment sand.

For reconstituting genetic resource(Korean Native Chicken: KNC) with grem-line chimeric chicken made with cryopreserved biastdermal cells, the experiments were carried out to optimize cryopreservating conditions. Stage X biastdemal cells were collected from KNC embryos and dissociated. Cells were susupended in medium containing cyopretectant and fetal bovine serum(FBS), and distributed into plastic ampules. Cell susupensions were seeded to induce ice formation at $-7^{\circ}C$ to $-35^{\circ}C$ at in the experiments, the effect of modification of dissociation way, concentration of FBS and cell density on the vaibility of frezen-thawed cells were investigated by trypan blue exclusion. Then change the way of cell dissociation from pipetting to short time vortexing, viability of frozen-thawed cell tended to be increaced from 29 % to 52 %. Increase concentraition of FBS in frozen medium from 20 % to 80 % made viability of thawed cell from 28 % to 35 %. The viability of thawed cells were 33.9% frozen at 2 embryos/0.5 ml, and 43.6 % frozen at 20 embryos/0.5 ml. Furthermore, combination of three modifications make big improvement. The viability of frozen-thawed cell was 60 % for combinated method, and 41 % for general method. This result means the advance to practical cryoreservation of blastdermal cell of the KNC(Ogolgye breed).

This experiment was conducted to evaluated the effect of maturity at harvest on the changes in quality of round baled rye silage at forage experimental field of Grassland and Forage Crops Division, National Livestock Research Institute, RDA, Suwon in 1998. The experimental design was a split-plot design with three replications. The main plots were three different harvest stages : boot, heading and flowering stages, and the subplots were days after ensiling : 1, 2, 3, 5, 10, 30, 45, and 60 days. The wilting period of boot, heading and flowering stages were 1, 0.5 and 0.5 days, respectively. The final pH of rye silage was higher in the order of flowering, boot and heading stages. And pH of flowering stage began to change at early fermentation period, but that of boot and heading stages was delayed 1~2 days. Ammonia-N content of boot stage was highest. and that was increased as fermentation progressed. But Ammonia-N of heading stage was decreased to 30 days. then that was increased after 45 days fermentation. Among fermentation periods, inside temperature of deep place was not affected by external temperature. And that of deep place was increased to 3$0^{\circ}C$ at early fermentation. then decreased as fermentation progressed. However surface temperature was affected by external temperature after 10 days. Acetic acid content was not changed with 5 days by harvest stages, but that of boot stage was increased after 10 days. Butyric acid of boot stage was increased after 5 days. but that of heading stage was increased after 10 days. However lactic acid was increased from 1~2% to 6~8%. Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) of heading and flowering stages were highest at 5 days fermentation, and that of boot stage was highest at 10 days fermentation. The results of this study indicate that fermentation of round baled rye silage occur within 5 days. Therefore, any modification should be applied with an 5 days for high quality of round baled rye silage.

Objectives: The aims of this study were to evaluate the effect of a metabolic syndrome management program on participants enrolled in a public health center program in, Seoul, Korea for 6 months and to analyze the changes in their life habits and risk factors for treating their metabolic syndrome. Methods: Participants enrolled in a metabolic syndrome program at a public health center and answered questionnaires. Their waist circumference and, blood pressure were measured and their blood was tested. Based on the results, the participants were classified into 3 groups. Then, the center provided a metabolic syndrome management intervention program for the individual groups and analyzed the changes in participants' life habits and risk factors after 6 months. Results: After the intervention, the active group, showed improved physical activity, increased eating habits by 0.7 points, and decreased drinking and smoking; however, these results were not statistically significant. As for the Participants' overall health status, all groups positively changed a statistically significant result. In regard to the change in risk factors for metabolic syndrome in the active group, systolic and diastolic blood pressure and triglyceride levels were, statistically significantly decreased, meanwhile, an increase was found in HDL cholesterol level, waist measurement, and anteprandial glucose level; but the result were not statistically significant. Their review rate was 19.0%; 29.4% in the active group, 19.0% in motivating group A, and 14.5% in motivating group B. Conclusions: Participants showed changes in some life habits and risk factors, a result still far from the program's goal to improve residents' health status (improved living habits and variations in risk factors); thus, it is necessary to supplement this program for better performance.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of teacher support program for integration of handicapped children on teaching efficacy of daycare center teachers. Methods: In the study, 12 day care teachers in 4 day care centers in Seoul and Gyeonggi area were selected as experimental groups and 12 teachers in 5 day care centers were selected as control group. Teacher education is carried out through group education, such as understanding of developmental area, curriculum modification, activity-based embedded intervention, cooperative learning, direct teaching, disability understanding education, behavior support, family support. Individual teacher education provided counseling on the reality of child care for children with disabilities that reflects the needs of teachers for integrated child care for handicapped children. Teacher's Efficacy in Inclusive Practices (TEIP) was used as a pre post test to measure teacher's efficacy change. In order to analyze the results of the study, two independent sample t tests were conducted on the difference between pre-post test of teacher efficacy between the two groups. Results: As a result, There was a significant difference in the pre-post change of teacher efficacy between the two groups. Conclusion/Implications: The results of this study are as follows, teacher support program provided immediate feedback in integrated child daycare center for the handicapped children, child care teachers improved their integrated handicapped children care expertise, provided responsive teacher support program to the actual needs of the site, teacher support program reflected various variables related to integration, and emphasized the cooperative relationship between researcher and child daycare center teacher. The results of this study can be used as actual data of field where lack of support for the integration of handicapped children is lacking.
Muscle mass improvement through lifestyle modification has been shown to reduce the risk of metabolic syndrome. This study examined the capacity of ethanol extracts of Scytosiphon lomentaria (SLE) to suppress the bioactivity of myostatin, a potent negative regulator of skeletal muscle mass, as well as the effect of SLE treatment on metabolic homeostasis in obese zebrafish induced by high feeding. A total of 10 ㎍/ml SLE completely blocked myostatin (1 nM/ml) signaling in the pGL3-(CAGA)12 luciferase assay and suppressed myostatin-induced Smad2 phosphorylation in the Western blot analysis. In the zebrafish larvae analysis, the whole body glucose concentration of the high feeding control (HFC) group was significantly higher than that of the normal feeding control (NFC) group. However, the glucose levels of the high feeding group treated with 12.5 ug SLE and of the high feeding group treated with 18.75 ug SLE were similar to those of the NFC group. The mRNA expression level of the GLUT2 gene of the HFC group was significantly lower than that of the NFC group. SLE treatment restored the expression of the GLUT2 gene to a level that was close to that of the NFC group, indicating that SLE is capable of regulating glucose levels in zebrafish larvae. The current results highlight the potential of SLE as a natural MSTN inhibitor and supplement that can be used to facilitate the treatment of metabolic syndrome.
In former times the protection of our environment didn't play an important role due to the fact that emissions and effluents were not considered as serious impacts. However, opinions and scientific measurements meanwhile confirmed that the impacts are more serious than expected. Thus measures to protect our earth has to be taken into consideration. A part of these measures in the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). One of the most important parts of the EIA is the collection of basic datas and the following evaluation. Experience out of the daily business of Gerling Consulting Group shows that the content of the EIA has to be revised and enlarged in certain fields. The historical development demonstrated that in areas in which the population and the industrial activities reached high concentration there is a high necessity to develop strict environmental laws and regulations. Maximum values of the concentration of hazardous materials were fixed concerning the emission into and water. Companies not following these regulations were punished. The total amount of environmental offences increased rapidly during the last decade, at least in Germany. During this development the public consciousness concerning environmental affairs increased as well in the industrialized countries. But it could clearly be seen that the development in the field of environmental protection went into the wrong direction. The technologies to protect the environment became more and more sophisticated and terms as: "state of the art" guided more and more to lower emissions, Filtertechnologies and wastewater treatment for example reached a high technical level-but all these sophisticated technologies has one and the same characteristic: they were end-of-the pipe solutions. A second effect was that this kind of environmental protection costs a lot of money. High investments are necessary to reduce the dust emission by another ppm! Could this be the correct way? In Germany the discussion started that the environmental laws reduce the attractivity to invest or to enlarge existing investments within the country. Other countries seem to be not so strict with controlling the environmental laws which means it's simply cheaper to produce in Portugal or Greece. Everybody however knows that this is not the correct way and does not solve the environmental problems. Due to the above mentioned facts that the public environmental consciousness changed dramatically a continous environmental improvement of each single production plant has to be guarantied. This question is already an important question of the EIA. But it was never really checked in a wholistic approach. Environmental risks have to be taken into considerations during the execution of an EIA. This means that the environmental risks have to be reduced down to a capable risk-level. Environmental risks have to be considered within the phase of planning, during the operation of a plant and after shut down. The experience shows that most of the environmental relevant accidents were and caused by human fault. Even in highly protected plants the human risk-factor can not be excluded during evaluation of the risk-potential. Thus the approach of an EIA has to regard technical evaluations as well as organizational thoughts and the human factor. An environmental risk is a threat to the environment. An analysis of the risk concerning the organizational and human aspect however never was properly executed during an EIA. A possible solution could be to use an instrument as the actual EMAS (Environmental Management System) of the EC for more accurate evaluation of the impact to the environment during an EIA. Organizations or investors could demonstrate by an approved EMAS or even by showing their installment of EMAS that not only the technical level of the planned investment meets the requested standards but as well the actual or planned management is able to reduce the environmental impact down to a bearable level.
This experiment was carried out to study the availability of Korean peat as a main carrier material of rhizobial inoculant, using the alfalfa strain Rhizobium meliloti M 14 which was isolated in the previous report. Modification of powdered peat with calcium carbonate and other materials was studied; inoculation of the peat with culture broth, maturation of the mixture under different conditions, and survival of the strain in the peat culture was examined. The results obtained were as follows. 1. Peat produced in Pyongtak was highly acidic, pH 3.8, and addition of calcium carbonate by 14% was required for pH adjustment to 6.4. However the amount of calcium carbonate could be reduced by 4 to 8% when carbon or charcoal was mixed with the peat. 2. Viable number of the strain reached to $7-9{\times}10^9cells/g$ after 3 days, when inoculated with the culture broth of early stationary growth phase and matured in unsteriled peat of open trays; and the number in steriled peat was $1.1-6.2{\times}10^{10}cells/g$ after 5 days, when matured in closed bottles. 3. Survival of the strain was affected markedly by storage temperature, and positive effect of D-sorbitol on the viability was recognized at elevated temperatures, when added as an additional carbon source and moistening agent. Glycerol, sorbitol, or sodium lactate was utilized by the strain as a sole source of carbon, and the decimal reduction time of viable number in the peat culture was was found to be 8 to 9 weeks at $25^{\circ}C$ when these agents were added by 0.5%.

However, milk-derived products could also be applied as preventive or therapeutic measures for a wide-range of pathological conditions not only in neonates and infants but also in adults, including the elderly.
