Exploring the Evaluation Framework of Maker Education (메이커교육(Maker Education) 평가틀(Evaluation Framework) 탐색)

  • Maker education rooted on Maker Movement refers to constructivist learning approach in which students as makers participate in producing visible outcomes through self-directed inquiry and creative hands-on activities in a real life context to solve their personal or social problems. The Maker education, therefore, stresses cultivation of 'maker mindset' in the process-oriented learning environments, pursuing evaluation aspects different from those in the existing educational system. In this context, this study aimed to explore an evaluation framework for the Maker education which reflects the Maker mindset: First, a literature review was conducted to search for the evaluation framework of the maker education which consists of the category of 5 ONs (Minds-on, Hands-on, Hearts-on, Social-on, Acts-on) representing intellectual, physical, emotional, interpersonal and practical aspects, respectively; Second, a Delphi survey for content validity was carried out to confirm the adequacy of the 5 ONs category along with sub-elements for each category. Finally, this study presented the evaluation framework for the Maker education, which is expected to be used as feedback rather than a measuring tool for the process and environments of the Maker education.

A Study on the Efficient Improvement of the Animatics for Animation Production in Education (애니메이션 교육을 위한 애니메틱스 제작의 효율적 방안 연구)

  • Animation is breathing life into drawings through motion. Animation is formed by the afterimage phenomenon, that is, deviation of sequential pictures in every frame makes a person possibly perceive it as a live video. Consequently, animation is mostly produced using traditional frame-by-frame methods. The study of relations on timing has been a major concern of animation theory. Nevertheless, issues of timing on production outcomes and effectiveness are mostly ignored. Special focus, analysis and leadership studies on timing are addressed on animatics. Creating better timing through animatics, that is writing movies, directing, scheduling and amending storyboard in pre-production stage, eventually shorten time to animation production. This research is centered on animatics as a cutting edge educational courses. This course will introduce students to the animation production skill and instructors to in-depth teaching points. One of the concepts that we want to go for is keeping animatics apart from mere storyboard. In conjunction with the animation theory, this research conducted under the focus of production of animatics will lead to more efficient way of education on animatics.

Accelerated second-degree bachelor of science in nursing program in South Korea: Current status and future directions (국내 간호대학(학과)의 학사 편입학 과정의 현황과 발전 전략)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe characteristics of colleges implementing the accelerated second-degree bachelor of science in nursing program in South Korea and provide insight into strategies to improve the program outcomes. Methods: An on-line questionnaire developed for this study was emailed to deans of nursing colleges who were members of the Korean Association of College of Nursing. Questions included items related to nursing college, students, curriculum, and anticipated difficulty in relation to an increase of the number of second-degree students. Results: Out of 117 nursing schools, 33 schools (28.2%) participated in the on-line survey. The actual number of second-degree students and their ratio (about 10%) to regular students significantly increased in 2019. Male students were enrolled nearly twice as many times as regular students. Among the anticipated difficulties, clinical practice institutions (3.94) and clinical practice instructors (3.73) showed relatively higher scores than other difficulties such as teaching (3.58) and education facilities (3.30). Conclusion: In order to improve the quality of nursing education for second-degree students, more nursing faculties and innovative clinical practice support systems are needed. Future study is warranted to investigate the educational experience of second-degree students and graduates.

  • With a focus on LabView language to program Lego Mindstoms Robot in afterschool class to help children develop their special ability and aptitude. The purpose of this research was to make proposal for programming learning method using a robot as an algorithm learning tool to improve creative problem solving ability. To do this, robot programming training program in the amount of 30th period and teaching aids thereof were developed, and 6th grade primary school children were taught up to 30th period, then after, they were evaluated accordingly. Results from analysis of evaluation of achievement level with a focus on outcomes according to each period revealed that learners understood most of contents of curriculum. In view of such results from evaluation, it is judged that the curriculum as well as teaching aids that devised and created have been constituted in order that school children will be able to have developed a shared understanding of their learning sufficiently, and to put it into practice easily. Through these hands-on experiences in the course of researches, researcher could have confirmed the possibility of success for robot-programming training class as new creative algorithm learning tool in the primary school curriculum.

Research of Elementary Students' Expectations on Informal Science Learning in Science Museums - Focused on Science Learning Area - (초등학생들의 과학관 비형식 과학 학습 관련 기대도 조사 - 과학 학습 영역 중심으로 -)

  • This study was to examine elementary students' expectations on informal science learning in science museums which have characteristics of free choice learning. $5^{th}$ and $6^{th}$ grade students in two different elementary schools in Gyeonggi province participated in the survey and 330 samples were collected. Subcategories for the survey were categorized on the basis of review of the literature about the learning outcomes from science museums. The survey instruments were developed following the idea of each subcategory from the learning in science museums and a content validity of the survey instruments was checked. The results were as follows: Generally students' had high expectations of all subcategories and developing their interests in science through science museums was confirmed the most. Moreover, expectations on learning in science museums were differences between gender and grade. Finally, it was found that grade differences of expectations on learning in science museums were affected by intrinsic motivation, and empirical activity were affecting the gender differences of those. Based on the results of study, elementary students could confirm that the science museums had the important values and possibility as a field of informal science learning. And this study implied that the science museums could enhance more educational roles of informal science learning.

Nursing Students' Subjectivity of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (보완대체의학에 대한 간호학과 학생의 주관성 연구)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to grasp the subjectivity of the nursing students toward CAM and put the outcomes into use as basic facts and figures in developing and applying a curriculum associated with CAM. Methods: Q methodology was employed to explore the nursing students' subjectivity from their rank-order statements. For the Q population, individual in-depth interviews and literature research were conducted. Finally, 30 participants completed 40 Q statements. The data were analyzed using the QUANL software package. Results: The current survey that probed into the subjectivity of the nursing students relative to CAM abstracted four categories, namely, practical and convinced type, keep-under-control/wait-and-see type, merit acknowledging type and limitedly accepting type. Conclusion: It is recommended that various educational programs should be developed to shift the awareness of CAM on the part of the nursing students, based on the findings set forth in the current study.

Effectiveness of Gifted Education in Non-cognitive Areas using Meta-analysis (비인지적 영역 영재교육 효과성에 관한 메타분석)

  • In this study, the meta-analysis technique was applied to investigate the effectiveness of gifted education in non-cognitive areas. Studies conducted during the years from 2002 to 2012 were searched and then the outcomes from the 18 studies were used for meta-analysis. The statistically positive effects were in the leadership programs (the combined effect size=1.226, p<.001), in the career programs (the combined effect size=1.103, p<.001), in the programs related to social skills (the combined effect size=1.684, p<.001), in the programs for gifted students who show underachievement (the combined effect size=1.486, p<.001), and in the bibliotherapy programs (the combined effect size=0.613, p<.001) for the gifted. Implications of the study were discussed in depth based on the results.

The Analysis of Discussion Activities and Participants' Behavior in the e-BBS based on a Structural Analysis (구조적 분석에 의한 e-BBS 토의 활동 및 참여자의 행동 분석)

  • Educators have recognized the usefulness of the e-BBS(electronic-Bulletin Board System) as an asynchronous communication medium for collaborative learning. However, theoretical outcomes to understand the structural analysis of thc e-BBS are not adequate enough. As a consequence, we are left with inadequate supportive tools to understand complex communication phenomena and to assist teachers to guide students to educational purposes. This can cause teachers to have a laissez-faire approach using BBS as a communication medium for education due to the lack of understanding the structural and overall situation. To address this issue, this paper presents a theoretical foundation to help understand the structure of discussion activities via the e-BBS and then presents a computational model, based on the structural analysis, for the behavioral analysis of participants. The formal representation of bi-directional discussion activities is realized by devising two graphs - the reply graph and the connection graph. Various measurements and statistics for the analysis are presented in the paper. To clarify the analysis, we classify the results produced through the analysis of discussion activities and participants' behaviors.

A literature review on the relationship between personal traits and language learning (언어학습과 성격특성의 관계에 대한 문헌 분석 연구)

  • This is a literature review study on personality traits' role in language learning. Personality traits play an important role in language learning. In order to review research outcomes in recent studies, articles related to language learning and personality traits were collected through research databases such as ProQuest, Google Scholar, and EBSCO. Based on the analysis of collected literature, this study revealed that extraversion and openness to experience are the personality traits leading to the successful language learning. More specifically, extraversion was related to speaking skills while openness to experience was related to listening. It is also important to note which learning strategies are more likely to be utilized in second language learning and personality traits that are more likely to use them. These findings focus on writing skills, listening skills, and speaking skills. Further studies in the field are suggested.

Development of the implant surgical technique and assessment rating system

  • Purpose: There has been no attempt to establish an objective implant surgical evaluation protocol to assess residents' surgical competence and improve their surgical outcomes. The present study presents a newly developed assessment and rating system and simulation model that can assist the teaching staffs to evaluate the surgical events and surgical skills of residents objectively. Methods: Articles published in peer-reviewed English journals were selected using several scientific databases and subsequently reviewed regarding surgical competence and assessment tools. Particularly, medical journals reporting rating and evaluation protocols for various types of medical surgeries were thoroughly analyzed. Based on these studies, an implant surgical technique assessment and rating system (iSTAR) has been developed. Also, a specialized dental typodont was developed for the valid and reliable assessment of surgery. Results: The iSTAR consists of two parts including surgical information and task-specific checklists. Specialized simulation model was subsequently produced and can be used in combination with iSTAR. Conclusions: The assessment and rating system provided may serve as a reference guide for teaching staffs to evaluate the residents' implant surgical techniques.
