Effects of Academic Stress and Academic Burnout on Smartphone Addiction in Junior High School Students (중학생들의 학업스트레스와 학업소진이 스마트폰 중독에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was performed to investigate the effects of academic stress and academic burnout on smartphone addiction in junior high school students. A survey was conducted using a convenient sample drawn from 306 students at six junior high schools in Seoul. Data were analyzed using the SPSS 23.0 program. The results show that 21.6% of students were at risk of smartphone addiction. The high risk of smartphone addiction group used smartphone longer during weekdays and weekends. In addition, the high level of academic stress and academic burnout groups showed higher smartphone addiction scores compared to the lower level of academic stress and academic burnout groups. Smartphone addiction was positively correlated with academic stress and academic burnout. Furthermore, the results show that academic achievement and attending class, academic stress and disengagement, and academic burnout affected smartphone addiction. Therefore, to prevent smartphone addiction in adolescents, academic stress should be reduced in adolescents as well as develop educational programs to help students release or control their academic stress.

A Study on Clothing Purchasing Behavior and Life Style -Focus on time consumption patterns of college women- (라이프 스타일에 따른 의복구매 행동에 관한 연구 -여대생의 시간소비 유형을 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this study was to classify college women according to the general life style, to examine the differences in the characteristics of time consumption, and clothing purchasing behavior, and ultimately to verify the importance of the time variable in life style analysis. 449 subjects were gathered through convenience sampling method and, frequency, precentage, average, $x^2$-test, t-test, ANOVA, Duncan's multiple range test, Factor Analysis, Cluster Analysis were conducted for data analysis. Results of the study were as follows : 1. College women were classified into five subgroups by cluster analysis : fashion-pursuit group, home-intended group, outer-intended group, conservative-economy group, and passive-inactive group. 2. In case of time consumption patterns, significant differences were found according to the different groups in patronage of library and extra off-campus educational programs, participation in household duties, consumption patterns of leisure time and participation in clubs. 3. In case of clothing purchasing behavior, significant differences were found according to the different groups in clothing purchasing motives, information sources, purchasing plan, the number of visited stores, and the confirmation of labels.

A Study on Difference of Clothing Behavior and Desired Image by Individualism-Collectivism (개인주의-집단주의 성향에 따른 의복 행동, 의복 추구 이미지의 차이에 관한 연구)

  • This paper aimed to investigate the difference of clothing behavior and desired image according to individualism-collectivism cultural tendency for women. A survey of 217 adult women was conducted from November to December 2006, mainly in Daegu. Reliability, frequency, percentage, factor analysis, ANOVA, t-test, Tukey test and an -analysis were used for data analysis by using SPSS WIN 11.0 package. The results were as follows: First, while the group with a higher tendency toward individualism valued personality and convenience above everything else, the group which has a higher tendency to collectivism disposition has a much greater interested in conformity and brand-orientation. Second, while the group with a higher tendency toward individualism pursued an bold image for their clothing, the group with a higher tendency toward collectivism preferred a feminine and plain image. Third, regarding the individualism-collectivism and demographic peculiarity, there were no significant differences between the two groups according to marital status and average monthly income. However, there were significant differences in individualism-collectivism among the groups determined by age, occupation, educational background and rural or urban background.

A Study on the Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices of Food Safety in the Elementary School Students (어린이의 식품안전에 대한 관심도와 행동평가)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the children's knowledge, attitudes and practices of food safety. A total of 355 data were collected from elementary school students. The concern of food safety was moderate in 5 point Likert scale and relatively high correlated with food safety knowledge(r=0.571) and education(r=0.534). The experience and knowledge of terminology on food safety were estimated. The level of food safety was classified into 5 groups and the consideration of food purchase was classified into 3 groups by factor analysis. A few children were aware of the food safety knowledge and could hardly understood English terminology. And the food safety practices were surveyed, and most of children checked with expiration dates and packaging conditions of food. Personal hygiene practice of children was significantly affected by gender, self hygiene evaluation and the knowledge level of food safety. Providing more food safety information affects personal hygiene and the practices of food purchase, so educational programs on food safety for children were required.

  • The purpose of this study was to develope the education program using multimedia for endocrine disruptor, and to examine the learning effects of it on high school students. The subjects were 70 tenth grade students in the academic high school located in Chungnam. With dividing them into two groups: the controlled group and the experimental one, lessons were executed respectively. Total average of achievement was significantly different between control and experimental groups. Using multimedia learning can be effective in improving in terms of knowledge achievement. Meaningful difference did appear from almost, but did not appear between using multimedia materials group and traditional approach to tuition classes. The most of experimental group students were interesting of the education program using multimedia, and thought that multimedia learning materials were helpful to understand the lesson about endocrine disruptor. And experimental group students were more active and positive in the lesson using multimedia than in the traditional ones. By providing students with the proper learning materials that go with their traits and preference, the educational environments that students can take part in the class more positively and actively should be provided.

Experiences of Sexual Life of Korean Women with Breast Cancer: Descriptions from Focus Groups and Interviews (한국 유방암 여성의 성생활 경험에 관한 포커스 그룹 연구)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe experiences of sexual life among Korean women with breast cancer. Methods: Data were collected by focus group and individual tape-recorded interviews. The data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis. Results: Participants were 13 women who had stage I, II, or III breast cancer. Four major categories were discovered. "Not interested in sexual life at all" in which participants described their struggle to live while avoiding sexual life during initial stages of disease. "Sexual life that could not go back to previous normal life" in which participants described how they began to recognize many problems related to their sexual life resulting from the loss of femininity and pain during intercourse. "Dangerous marriage due to no sexual life" in which participants illustrated how no or unsatisfactory sexual life threatened their entire marriage and family life. Finally, "rediscovery of sexual life as a vital element in life" in which participants described how, with support from their spouse, they came to realize that sexual life was an important and vital part of their life. Conclusions: The results of this study could help in developing-educational programs to improve sexual well-being of women with breast cancer and their spouses.

A Correlational Study of Social Familiarity and Leaners' Participation and Performance in Web-based Team Learning Environment (웹 기반 팀 학습환경에서 사회적 친밀감과 학습자의 참여도 및 과제수행 간 상관분석)

  • The purpose of the paper was to investigate the relationship between the social familiarity and learners' participation and performance in terms of individual performance and team performance. In addition, experimental groups were split into two groups, depending on the level of social familiarity. The result showed that the social familiarity had positive correlational relations with the learners' participation, individual performance, and team performance. Additionally the group that showed high level of social familiarity had outperformed the others that showed low level of social familiarity. Some suggestions such that the importance of instructional strategy, which increase the social familiarity in web-based team learning environment were made.

A Survey of Students' Satisfaction on Participation Learning Using Role-play in Clerkship (의사-환자 역할극을 통한 참여형 임상실습 만족도 조사)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to evaluate students' satisfaction on participation learning using role-play in clerkship of Oriental Ophthalmology & Otolaryngology department. Methods : In 2012, 93 sixth grade students undergoing Oriental Ophthalmology & Otolaryngology clerkship were included in this study. The students listened to a lecture on nasal disease. And three days later, Students were randomly divided into two groups, doctor or patient, and performed role-play in their role. After role- play, they completed the questionnaire, the questionnaire was composed of 16 items. Results : Mean of total satisfaction score was 4.14. Mean of interest and appropriacy score was 4.48, mean of usefulness satisfaction was 3.93. There was no significant difference in mean scores by the role groups. Students evaluated the role-play in clerkship positively. Conclusions : Students evaluated the role-play that it was interesting and useful educational tool in clerkship. It is necessary to undergo further trials and complement programs to upgrade the quality of Oriental medical clerkship.

Effects of AIDS Education on Knowledge, Prejudice, Susceptibility, Severity and Intention of Safe Sex Behavior among University Students (에이즈교육이 대학생의 에이즈에 대한 지식, 편견, 민감성,심각성, 안전한 성행위 의도에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: This study investigated the effectiveness of AIDS education on knowledge, prejudice, susceptibility, severity, and intention of safe sex behavior among university students. Methods: This study was conducted from March, 2008 to May, 2008. The research design was a non-equivalent control group pre-post test. Participants 78 university students (control group) and 89 university students (experimental group). For the latter, AIDS education was provided once weekly for 1 h for 4 weeks. The educational program included understanding of sexuality, facts of AIDS, life stories of patients with AIDS, and safe sex behavior. The differences between two groups after education were analyzed by independent t-test. Results: The experimental group had significantly higher scores for knowledge, prejudice, susceptibility, and intention of safe sex behavior compared to the control group. However, no significant difference was found for severity between two groups. Conclusion: AIDS education can be effective in improving knowledge, prejudice, susceptibility, and intention of safe sex behavior, and is recommended as an effective AIDS education for university students.

A Survey of Sailors Knowledge, Attitudes and Preventive Behaviors about AIDS (선원들의 에이즈에 관한 지식, 태도 및 예방행위에 관한 조사연구)

  • This study was to assess Korean sailors' knowldege, attitudes and behaviors about AIDS. The subjects of this study were 379 safety-trainee sailors. Data were collected by self reporting on a questionnaire during February to March 1996. The results were as follows : The mean score on AIDS knowledge was 17.3 out of a possible maximum score of 24.0. With respect to diseas transmission , only 45.6-86.5percent of the sailors correctly indicated that causal contact does not lead to contraction AIDS. The younger, unmarried , and educated groups had a higher level of knowledge about AIDS. With respect t sailors' attitudes about ADIS, 85.2 percent of the sailors reported that the AIDS is as big a problem as the media suggested, and over half of the sailors(53.8%) reported that they are being afraid of getting AIDS. One attitude, which was most pervasive(903.1 percent agreeing) was that it is important for sailors to receive AIDS education as a part of social education classes. In attitudes , there was statistical significance by age group, marital statistical signifiacance by age group , marital status, and educational level. With respect to sailor's preventive behaviors about AIDS, the mean score was 7.1 out of a possible maximum score of 9.0. It was shown that the older age, married groups had a higher level of preventive behaviors about AIDS.
