  • In this paper, we present the results of educational innovation case study using U-Learning Box and Ubiquitous-based Test(UBT) system for 6 sample primary schools in Nepal. As Nepal is considered to be a developing country with electricity problem to the school, the U-Learning Box, consisting of a small and easy-to-use tablet PC for teacher and a small smart beam with its own battery was evaluated as the optimum solution to support continuous basic English and hygiene education for these schools. And UBT technology using tablet PC was used to evaluate and analyze basic English learning ability of the students, which helped us realized that it is necessary to improve the educational environment and develop suitable educational contents. We hope that the global educational innovation using U-Learning Box and UBT technology will become a successful model for global equality of educational opportunity project for developing countries including Nepal.

  • This study examined the relationship between demographic characteristics, satisfaction of operating factors in college lifelong education, satisfaction of college lifelong education, and recommendation intention for 1,782 adult learners of college lifelong education (N=1782). As a result of Hypothesis 1, gender and age were found to have a significant effect in all areas of college lifelong education satisfaction (education content, pedagogy, instructor, educational environment, system, support), while education level did not. In addition, the learning time was verified to affect only the educational content, educational environment, and satisfaction with the system and support. As a result of Hypothesis 2, it was found that the satisfaction of the operating factors of the instructor, system, and support had a positive effect on the satisfaction of college lifelong education, and the environmental factors of education had a negative effect. As a result of verification of Hypothesis 3, it was found that the satisfaction of college lifelong education influenced the intention of recommendation. The purpose of this study is to determine the degree of satisfaction with the operational factors of college lifelong education, the satisfaction of college lifelong education, and the intention of recommendation for adult learners of a university that is operating a degree program dedicated to adult learners who are actually practicing the transition to a lifelong education system of university as an innovation in higher education. The relationship verification is expected to provide practical implications for constructing a new college lifelong education model in the future.

  • The study aims to gain information for developing educational content to support LPSMBs (low-performing students with multicultural backgrounds) in elementary and middle schools. The procedure involved surveying students about their personal characteristics, attitudes related to learning, and learning environment. I analyzed responses from 1,147 students from 200 elementary schools and 3,760 students from 320 middle schools who were LPSMBs and NPSMBs (normally performing students with multicultural backgrounds). LPSMBs in both elementary and middle school showed statistically significant lower scores on most questionnaires related to learning and learning environment than NPSMBs. LPSMBs in elementary schools showed higher scores on teachers' learning support, LPSMBs in middle school showed higher scores on classmates' learning support. LPSMBs born in foreign countries need to be given opportunities to learn Korean as well as their father's and mother's culture. I give suggestions for how to support LPSMBs' learning and learning environment based on the survey results.

  • This paper aims to explore instructional design of a cyber classroom for secondary students' basic English language competence. A paucity of support for low or under achieving students' English learning exists particularly at the secondary level. In order to bridge the gap, there has been demand for online educational resources considered to be an effective tool in improving students' self-directed learning and motivation. This study employs a comprehensive approach to instructional design for the asynchronous cyber classroom with the underlying premise that different learning theories can be applied in a complementary manner to serve different pedagogical purposes best. Gagné's conditions of learning theory, Bruner's constructivist theory, Carroll's minimalist theory, and Vygotsky's social cognitive development theory serve as the basis for designing instruction and selecting appropriate media. The ADDIE model is used to develop online teaching and learning materials. Twenty-five key grammatical features were selected through the analysis of the national curriculum of English, being grouped into five units. Each feature is covered in one cyber asynchronous class. An Integration Class is given at the end of every five classes for synthesis, where students can practice grammatical features in a communicative context. Related theories, pedagogical practices, and practical web-design strategies for cyber Basic English classes are discussed with suggestions for research, practice and policy to support self-directed learning through a cyber class.

Data were collected during July and August 1992 through interview which lasted 20~30 minutes and used open ended questions. Each woman was interviewed once about their pregnancy experience. The data were analyzed by Van Kaam’s phenomenological analysis method and categorized accord-ing to similarity of content. Results of this study are as follows. 1) Mothers felt physically supported by having help with their activities from their husbands or other family members. Psychological stress was relieved by not having to worry about and / or giving a birth to a baby boy ; getting special attention : and hearing encouraging words. 2) Mothers felt not supported when indifference was shown by her husband and / or relatives ; when forced to do an unusual household activities ; or on hearing words stressing her responsibilities. Suggestion for further study are as follows. It is necessary to see if or not the contents of an educational program would increase the perceived support of pregnant women. For the case of usenet newsgroup concerning disabilities, hit rate is even less than E-mail because of lack of accessibility, educational support and economical expense for internet. This paper is addressed to voice usenet newsgroup service by using telephone or web browser for visual disabilities without additional S/W support such as 775, usenet program and installation program, suggests a design method and an implementation example for it. Main features of it are easiness of man machine interface, popularity of access device such as telephone or web browser and independency of particular news server by using NNTP. This system supports general MIME format, is implemented for usenet server of Korean Social Worker's Community and will be implemented for Gomduri InfoNet BBS of Korean Society for Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities.
