Educational Effects of a Virtual IV Simulator and a Mannequin Arm Model Combined Training in Teaching Intravenous Cannulation for Nursing Students (간호대학생을 위한 정맥주사용 가상학습 시뮬레이터와 마네킨 팔 모형을 병합한 정맥주사 실습교육의 효과)

  • The purpose of this study is to compare the effects on nursing students' knowledge, performance confidence, and skills from combined virtual IV simulator and mannequin arm IV cannulation training against training with a mannequin arm only. A non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest experimental study was carried out. Ninety-three sophomore nursing students who were just beginning their fundamental skills training were recruited. Participants were divided into two groups (46 for the combined group and 47 for the mannequin-only group). Data were collected from March 18-29. For the experimental group, both virtual IV simulator and mannequin-arm training were provided for 30 minutes (15 minutes each). For the control group, training for 30 minutes with a mannequin arm only was provided. After intervention, there was no statistically significant difference in the knowledge score between the two groups (F=2.52, p=.116). However, there was a significant improvement in performance confidence (t=2.14, p=.035) and nursing skills (t=5.34, p<.001) in the experimental group, compared with the control. Overall, this study provides empirical evidence that the combination of virtual IV simulator and mannequin arm training may further enhance nursing students' performance confidence and nursing skills.

  • This paper presents a Windows graphic developed by the authors for the education and training of power system. Object-oriented programming is a major trend in computer software because it increases flexibility of large-scale software systems. An efficient platform for power system simulation applications has been proposed. This paper presents an intuitive Windows-based program for the power system analysis. The advantages of the object-oriented approach are demonstrated with an implementation of the graphical program. It provides a graphical interface for designing the one-line diagram of the bus and analyzing the output of the simulations. A graphical editor to visually edit the power system, diagram, results processing and exporting and graphic presentations.

  • The coal mill used in the coal-fired power plants is modeled in view of the controller design rather than the educational simulator. The coal mass flow and the outlet temperature are modeled by reinvestigating the mass balance and heat balance models physically. The archived data from a plant database are utilized to identify the model parameters. It can be seen that the simulated model outputs are well matched with the measured ones. It is also expected that the proposed model is useful for the controller design.

  • In this paper, the coal mass flow of the pulverizer used in the coal-fired power plants is modeled in view of the controller design rather than the educational simulator. A Study on the U.S. Maritime Education Methodology and Engagement Status for the Graduates from Maritime Colleges (미국의 해기사 교육제도와 취업현황에 관한 연구)

  • This paper presents the educational methodology shipboard training methods of Maritime Colleges in U.S.A. and the fields of engagement in business of the graduates from them. There are two Maritime Academies, i.e. U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) and U.S. Coast Guard Academy, which are supported by federal government and six Maritime Colleges operated by each State. Maritime Administration (MARAD) in the Department of Transportation (DOT) supports the training of merchant marine officers and crew members with a focus on safety in U.S. waterborne commerce. The shipboard training methods are not unique, but have various process. One is continuous sea term training onboard during sophomore (100 days) and junior year (200 days) in case of USMMA, the other is summer sea term training onboard every three months during freshman, sophomore and junior years in case of SUNY Maritime College. They offer also one month ship simulator training ashore. The employment status for the 1999 year graduates from USMMA shows 43 percent in the field of maritime afloat, 34 percent of maritime ashore, 22 percent of active duty military and 1 percent of others.

  • 국내 전력계통을 담당하고 있는 한국전력공사에서는 주기적으로 변전소 운전원들을 교육/훈련하여 계통상에서 발생하는 각종 현상 또는 고장 등에 대한 신속한 대비를 수행할 수 있도록 하고 있다. 이러한 교육/훈련을 위하여 교육용 시뮬레이터를 개발하여 운영 중에 있다. 기존 교육용 시뮬레이터의 경우 여러 고장 발생에 대한 각종 동작 사항을 지정하여 시나리오로 저장한 후, 교육/훈련시 다시 불러와서 사용하는 방식으로 되어 있었으나 본 개발된 고장발생기는 고장 유형에 따른 동작 사항을 계통 상황에 맞춰 생성하여 시나리오를 발생시키는 방식으로 변경하였다. 이를 통해 복잡한 시나리오 편집 절자가 없어졌으며, 보다 다양한 고장에 대한 교육/훈련을 수행할 수 있게 되었다. 본 논문에서는 고장발생기의 입력 및 출력을 제시하고, 기존의 고장발생 방식과의 성능 비교를 기술하였다.

Development and Application of a System Thinking-Based Approach with the Use of a Patient Simulator in Nursing Education : Focus on Congestive Heart Failure (시스템 사고기반 울혈성 심부전 간호교육 시뮬레이션 프로그램 개발 및 적용)

  • This study aims to explore the development and application of a simulated skills package designed to improve nursing students' knowledge integration and their system thinking(ST) skills about congestive heart failure(CHF) and to identify the change in students' ST levels using a ST-based learning approach. A simulated learning support package was developed by nurse educators and ST experts. The developed program was implemented with 35 third-year nursing students from S university in Seoul. The subjects improved their ST skills regarding CHF after intervention. Mean test scores for students completing the program were significantly higher than pre-intervention scores, including measures of direction of causality, polarity of causal relationship, feedback loop, polarity of feedback loop (reinforcing, balancing) and time delay (t=2.26~6.53, p=.030~p<.001). It is suggested that more educational programs be developed on various topics in order for nursing students to improve their ST skills as well as knowledge integration in clinical nursing practicum packages.

  • 기존의 어셈블러는 시각적으로 불편하고 사용자 편의를 위한 기능을 제공하지 않으며 최신의 컴퓨터와의 호환성 문제가 있었다. 이러한 문제점들의 해결책으로 나온 SIC/XE 어셈블러 시뮬레이터 오픈 소스를 GitHub에서 클론하여 분석하고 테스트하였다. 본 논문에서는 오픈 소스 SIC/XE 어셈블러 시뮬레이터의 다양한 오류를 분석하고 이를 수정하였다. 또한 리터럴 테이블, 심볼 테이블, 목적코드 및 오류 메시지의 시각화를 통해 기존의 SIC/XE 어셈블러 시뮬레이터를 개선시켜 사용자 편의를 높인 학습용 SIC/XE 어셈블러 시뮬레이터를 구현하였다.

  • Virtual reality (VR) simulators have been extended to transfer knowledge and education, and demands for exhibition systems for science education and cultural experiences has also increased. Existing VR simulators, which are based on the dynamics equations of motion, cannot easily be adapted to changes in simulation contents. In order to effectively transfer knowledge and maintain interests through educational applications, an experiential system that has multi-sensory effects as well as motion effects is required. In this study, we designed and implemented a motion generation that is tailored to experiential exhibition systems and multi-sensory VR effects. Both the sense of motion which is generated from the movement of the viewpoint of the visual image, and motion effects which are constructed in advance, are applied to motion simulation. Motion effects which occur during interaction between the user and the exhibition system can be easily added. Various sensory cues that are appropriate to the exhibition system are also considered.

  • In this study, we design a position controller for two axis servo system. The position controller performs numerical control(NC)to DC or AC servo motor or step motor, and also has a digital input/output sequence capability. The control program composed of position and sequence command, which is called channel, is programmed easily and user-interactively. And it is interpreted and the straight line and arc position command is interpolated. We develop the Z80 microprocessor based system and the software with assembly and C language, and also PC based graphic simulator for the debugging and educational purposes.
