To achieve this goal, international relations and education can be found in supporting economically deprived regions and contributing to the development of the world based on mutual understanding. Next, the current status of international education exchanges was examined by the Ministry of Education, the National Institute for International Education, and the Gyeongnam Office of Education's International relations and Education Center. The status of international relations and education shown in these three subjects is active in practice, but there was also a limit to theorizing about them and making explanations or predictions. • International volunteering in education is one of activities in volunteering. Volunteers have been recognizing that educational activities play an important role in volunteering. Recently, there is an increase of participants and various supports for educational volunteering in South Korea. However, regardless of the essential meanings in which activities commonly attempt for deriving local sources in terms of human and resources, many participants in volunteering take advantages of their own purposes and providing their supports in terms of a mercy. This study asserts that this situation comes from the lack of theoretical understanding of volunteering. Therefore, this study realizes a need of providing a theoretical background and purports to suggest it for international volunteering in education. It is the critical pedagogy. Critical pedagogy tries to deconstruct false-consciousness of the oppressed through education. And, it emphasizes that people could have autonomy and self-directed sovereignty. Accordingly, critical pedagogy should be a theoretical background of activities for deriving human's autonomous consciousness and their own resources. Thus, it might be a theoretical background for international volunteering in education.

  • The Korean National Commission for Unesco has helped Korean Unesco Associated Schools undertake environmental studies within the framework of education for international understanding, cooperation and peace from 1991 - 1993. The environmental studies enjoyed participation by nine Associated Schools among 35 throughout the country, with each school on a different theme each year. Environmental studies by the Unesco Associated Schools are differentiated from those by the former continues to work on environmental or Provincial Boards of Education. The former continues to work on environmental education, longer than 1 - 2 years, and they can also capitalize on the international networks of the ASP, which may be instrumental to understanding the worldwide nature of the environmental issues these days. This paper contains a breif explanation of the cases of environmental studies by level of education from primary to teacher education level. It is argued that through the study, the students of Unesco Associated Schools well recognize the seriousness of environmental problems facing mankind and will have positive attitudes and values towards the preservation of our environment. It is also argued that the studies result in a variety of useful teaching/learning methods for environmental education: students visit to polluted areas. survey, composition of works with environmental themes such as posters, poems, organization of discussion by the students on environmental problems, exhibition, international correspondence, etc. The studies also have produced various helpful reaching/learning materials : photos, slides, scrapbooks of articles on environmental issues from newspapers, etc. However, several problems also emerged through the studies. A few of them are described here ; First, focus on the extra-curricula activity rather than regular curricula results in the neglect of the knowledge base of environmental education. Second, only a part of the all 35 Associated Schools have participated in the project. Third, primary and first secondary students have difficulty in using foreign language which is vital for international activities.

  • To enhance safety in dangerous situations, it is essential to provide practice-oriented safety education. However, direct experiences can be limited, and thus, metaverse-based safety education is emerging as an alternative. In this study, we analyzed the first official metaverse safety education program of the Korea Ministry of Education, mainly focusing on its title, objectives, content, and results using the Revised PRISMA framework. The program concentrates on "life safety" for "fire safety," "disaster safety" for "earthquake safety," and "first aid" for "abrasions, burns, fractures, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and the use of AED." We classified the objectives of the entire program and its three sub-programs, and identified the knowledge, main practice tasks, and their results. The aim of this study is to promote an understanding of the main cases of national-led metaverse safety education and infer the practical safety education contents emphasized to Korean school-age students.

  • Comparing to those of the US and European countries, the education for international understanding(EIU) in Korea has a relatively short history. It has been accelerated since Korean government put an emphasis on globalization of the country in 1990s. However, it was not until the beginning of 2000s that academic discussion on EIU has really begun. This study evaluated the development of EIU in Korea and proposed future directions based on its assessment. First of all, EIU in Korea needs to invite more diverse actors beyond UNESCO. Being an interdisciplinary subject, EIU requires more supports from and cooperations among professionals in diverse fields. The main themes in EIU, such as global interdependence, global perspectives, cross-cultural understanding need to be more emphasized, and the global issues such as peace and human rights need to be integrated into the framework of EIU. Based on the analyses of current EIU practices and the forgoing discussions, some recommendations were proposed for the improvement of EIU in Korean schools. In addition, the relationship between EIU and multicultural education was discussed and some suggestions were focused on the ways to improve their cooperation as the world becomes more closer and the Korean society moves into a multicultural society.
