  • Practical problem-solving studies in a company or organization have provided great advantages for our university and students. For example, such studies can lead them to build a stronger relationship with local governments and companies as well as develop their research through collaborative studies. On the other hand, comments from companies or organizations that accepted our students showed that they did not always have advantages. This study seeks ways to establish a sustainable long-term internship program that can offer advantages for companies. Advantages and disadvantages of the internship are written by the company on the evaluated sheet. These feedback comments are analyzed by text-mining approach. It is shown that there are three types of company and organizations depending on their reasons for accepting students. Next, suitable internship programs for each type, including their period and expense distribution are presented.

  • The purpose of this study is to design the instructional model to develop logical thinking competency of engineering students and to investigate the effect of the model. The instructional model is composed of the virtual context (films were provided), problem solving, feedback, another problem solving with different perspectives, feedback. The process is looped. The results showed statistically significant improvements between pre- and post-test. The first standardized test of critical thinking showed the improvement from pre-test to post-test (d=0.646). The second test of logical thinking showed the improvement from pre-test to mid-term test (d=0.753) and improvement from mid-term to post-test (d=1.529).

  • The paper surveys various attempts to use the concept of 'fundamental ideas' -Bruner's concept- as a tool for organizing mathematics teaching and research in mathematics education. One of the characteristics of fundamental ideas in mathematics is their correspondence to the history of mathematics; therefore in forming out contents and methods in mathematics education, the history of mathematics may be serve as an interesting aspect. It is demonstrated by the example of mean values.

  • This paper investigates instructional strategies with potential for improving students' achievement in word problem solving. This review compares and analyzes the direct instruction (DI) and cognitively guided instruction (CGI) research on K-3 word problem solving mathematics students in a demonstration of my position that teachers need to understand student mathematical thinking to enhance students' achievement in word problem solving. CGI provides a more appropriate instructional model than DI for teaching word problem solving. For example, student-centered, conceptual understanding, and children's informal or invented problem solving strategies communicating with each other mathematically, etc. Korean teachers and teacher educators need to consider implementing CGI teaching strategies.

  • On the basis of the meaning and general process of geometric proof through transformation concept and understanding the geometric properties of linear transformation, this study showed that the centroid of geometrical figure and certain properties of a parabola and an ellipse in school mathematics can be explained as a conservative properties through linear transformation. From an educational perspective, this is a good example of showing the process of how several existing individual knowledge can be reorganized by a mathematical concept. Considering the fact that mathematical usefulness of linear transformation can be revealed through an invariable and conservation concept, further discussion is necessary on whether the linear transformation map included in the former curriculum have missed its point.

  • The World-Wide Web provides new opportunities for cyber education over the internet. The web, when combined with other network tools, can be used to provide useful educational information to learners. Thus, the objective of this paper is to develop Java applets for understanding the principles of electronic circuits on the internet. Some sample Java applets are illustrated as an example. The results of this paper can be widely used to improve the efficiency of cyberlectures in the cyber university.

  • 'Tangent' is one of the most important concepts in the middle and high school mathematics, especially in dealing with calculus. The concept of tangent in the current textbook consists of the ways which make use of discriminant or differentiation. These ways, however, do not present dynamic view points, that is, the concept of variation. In this paper, after applying 'Roberval's way of finding tangent using vectors in terms of kinematics to parabola, ellipse, circle, hyperbola, cycloid, hypocycloid and epicycloid, we will identify that this is the tangent of those curves. This trial is the educational link of mathematics and physics, and it will also suggest the appropriate example of applying vector. We will also help students to understand the tangent by connecting this method to the existing ones.

  • We present the results of one-dimensional numerical simulations of SNR evolution in the inhomogeneous medium considering the effects of the evaporation of the cloud and the thermal conduction. We have included the effects of changing evaporation rate as a function of cloud size and the ambient temperature so that the clouds could be evaporated completely before they reach the center of the SNR. The heat conduction markedly changes the density distribution in the remnant interior. To explain the observed morphologies of the centrally peaked X-ray SNRs(for example W44), the maximal thermal conduction is required. However, this is unlikely due to the magnetic field and the turbulent motion. The effects of the evaporation of the cloud and the thermal conduction described here may explain the class of remnants observed to have centrally peaked X-ray emmision.

  • Contact interaction of a beam (flexible element) with an elastic half-plane is considered, when a soft inhomogeneous (functionally graded) interlayer is present between them. The beam is bent under the action of a distributed load applied to the surface and a reaction of the elastic interlayer and the half-space. Solution of the contact problem is obtained for different values of thickness and parameters of inhomogeneity of the layer. The interlayer is assumed to be significantly softer than the underlying half-plane; case of 100 times difference in Young's moduli is considered as an example. The influence of the interlayer thickness and gradient of elastic properties on the distribution of the contact stresses under the beam is studied.
