This study assessed the accuracies of the ground information extracting methods from the LiDAR data. Especially, it compared two kinds of method, one of them is using directly the raw LiDAR data which is point type vector data and the other is using changed data to DSM type as the normal grid type. The methods using Local Maxima and Entropy methods are applied as a former case, and for the other case, this study applies the method using edge detection with filtering and the generated reference surface by the mean filtering. Then, the accuracy assessment are performed with these results, DEM constructed manually and the error permitted limit in scale of digital map. As a results, each DEM mean errors of methods using edge detection with filtering, reference surface, Local Maxima and Entropy are 0.27m, 2.43m, 0.13m and 0.10m respectively. Hence, the method using entropy presented the highest accuracy. And an accuracy from a method directly using the raw LiDAR data has higher accuracy than the method using changed data to DSM type relatively.
We propose a novel image inpainting method composed of two parts: band matching and seamless cloning. In band matching, a band enclosing the boundary of a missing region is compared to those from the other parts of the image. The inner area of the minimum difference band is then copied to the missing region. Even though this band matching results in successful inpainting in many practical applications, brightness discontinuity (a seam) may appear between the filled missing region and its neighborhood. We apply seamless cloning to remove such discontinuity between the two regions. However, since this basic method using one patch may not deal with cases where there are abrupt changes of color or brightness along the boundary, we furthermore devise one more step: target sub-division. The target area is subdivided into small sub-areas, and the band matching and seamless cloning are applied to each of them. The multiple results from the sub-division are then ordered according to inpainting quality, which is measured based on the edge map or discontinuity map along the boundary band.

The pixel value of depth image is depth value so that different objects which are placed on nearby position have similar pixel value. Moreover, the pixels of depth image have distinct pixel values compared to adjacent pixels while those of color image has very similar values. Accordingly distorted depth image of multiview video plus depth (MVD) needs proper error concealment methods considering the characteristics of depth image when transmission errors are happened. In this paper, classifying regions of depth image to consider edge directions and then applying adaptive error concealment methods to each region are proposed. Recovered depth images utilize with multiview video data to synthesize intermediate-view point video. The synthesized view is evaluated by objective quality metrics to demonstrate proposed method performance.

Generally, a camera isn't located at the center of display in a tele-presence system and it causes an incorrect eye contact between speakers which reduce the realistic feeling during the conversation. To solve this incorrect eye contact problem, we newly propose an intermediate view reconstruction algorithm using both a color camera and a depth camera and applying for the depth image based rendering (DIBR) algorithm. In the proposed algorithm, an efficient hole filling method using the arithmetic mean value of neighbor pixels and an efficient boundary noise removal method by expanding the edge region of depth image are included. We show that the generated eye-contacted image has good quality through experiments.

After the spatial discrepancy between SLI(Street-Level Imagery) and vector map is removed by their conflation, the corresponding building regions can be found based on SLI parameters. The building region correspondence, however, is not perfect even after the conflation. This paper aims to improve the correspondence of building regions by region splitting of an SLI. Regions are initialized by the seed lines, projection of building objects onto SLI scene. First, sky images are generated by filtering, segmentation, and sky region detection. Candidates for split lines are detected by edge detector, and then images are splitted into building regions by optimal split lines based on color difference and sky existence. The experiments demonstrated that the proposed region splitting method had improved the accuracy of building region correspondence from 83.3% to 89.7%. The result can be utilized effectively for enhancement of SLI services.
The Image sensor of digital still camera has a limited dynamic range. In high dynamic range scenes, a picture often turns out to be underexposed or overexposed. Retinex algorithm based on the theory of the human visual perception is known to be effective contrast enhancement technique. However, it happens the unbalanced contrast enhancement which is the global contrast increased, and the local contrast decreased in the high dynamic range scenes. In this paper, to enhance the both global and local contrast, we propose the weight mapping retinex algorithm. Weight map is composed of the edge and exposure data which are extracted in the each retinex image, and merged with the retinex images in the fusion processing. According to the output picture comparing and numerical analysis, the proposed algorithm gives the better output image with the increased global and local contrast.

Stereo correspondence is the central problem of stereo vision. In this paper, we propose a stereo matching scheme based on a genetic algorithm using a multi-resolution method and AD-Census. The proposed approach considers the matching environment as an optimization problem and finds the disparity by using a genetic algorithm And adaptive chronosome structure using edge pixels and crossover mechanism are employed in this technique. A cost function is composes of certain constraints whice are commonly used in stereo matching. AD-Census measure is applied to reduce disparity error. To increase the efficiency of process, we apply image pyramid method to stereo matching and calculate the initial disparity map at the coarsest resolution. Then initial disparity map is propagated to the next finer resolution, interpolated and performed disparity refinement using local feature vector. We valid our method not only reduces the search time for correspondence compared with conventional GA-based method but also ensures the validity of matching.

It is very important to construct statistical model in order to exactly estimate the signal variance from a noisy image. In order to estimate variance, information of neighboring region is used generally. The size of neighbor region is varied according to the regional characteristics of image. More accurate estimation of edge variance is due to smaller region of neighbor, on the other hands, larger region of neighbor is used to estimate the variance of flat region. By using estimated variance of original image, in general, Wiener filter is constructed, and it is applied to the noisy image. In this paper, we propose a new method for determining the range of neighbors to estimate the variance in wavelet domain. Firstly, a significance map is constructed using the parent-child relationship of wavelet domain. Based on the number of the significant wavelet coefficients, the range of neighbors is determined and then the variance of the original signal is estimated using ML(maximum likelihood method. Experimental results show that the proposed method yields better results than conventional methods for image denoising.
In this paper we present creating 3D image from 2D image by extract initial depth values calculated from focal values. The initial depth values are created by using the extracted focal information, which is calculated by the comparison of original image and Gaussian filtered image. This initial depth information is allocated to the object segments obtained from normalized cut technique. Then the depth of the objects are corrected to the average of depth values in the objects so that the single object can have the same depth. The generated depth is used to convert to 3D image using DIBR(Depth Image Based Rendering) and the generated 3D image is compared to the images generated by other techniques.
Studies on effects of human action on the destruction of ecosystems and changes in biodiversity are being processed actively from the view point of landscape ecology. This study investigated present distribution status of the naturalization plant by disturbance of natural ecosystem which could be seen on 35 rural villages in Korea. The study made a landuse map on the study area then quantified the landscape ecologic characteristic using landscape index based on this landuse map. Correlation between landscape index on the study area and distribution characteristic of naturalization plant was analyzed. The landscape index was calculated by FRAGSTATS, a spatial analysis program, and naturalization index and urbanization index were used in the distribution characteristic of naturalization plant. As a result, naturalization index and patch density, naturalization index and edge density, naturalization index and area-weighted mean shape index were shown as having positive correlation, and naturalization and core area percentage of landscape, naturalization index and mean core area were displayed as having negative correlation.
