  • In this study, detailed assessment for durability performance were performed on the chloride protected concrete structures to investigate the effectiveness of chloride protection. And economical efficiency for the chloride protected concrete structures were studied by LCC(Life Cycle Cost) analysis. In the comparison result of the first section repair time, it was found that the chloride protected concrete structures was economical better than the non-protected concrete structures in the long term. According to the analysis result of the accumulated chloride concentration by used time and chloride ion concentration by depth, it can be seen that the permeation through time from chloride has increased two times in the chloride protected concrete structures.

  • In order to satisfy consumers' various desires for music performance, as it is important how to form sympathy with consumers, it is significant for music performance planners to find out which values the audiences think important when it comes to music performance art. The purpose of this study is to examine a relationship among worth to watch, performance satisfaction and desire of respectating that the audience recognizes. A questionnaire survey was carried out on 182 participants who have gone to musical performances. As a result of the study, 'educational value', 'economical value', 'emotional value' and 'social value' of spectating music performance had positive effects on both 'watching satisfaction' and 'desire of respectating', and especially when it comes to spectating satisfaction, emotional value and economical value were the significant effects, and for desire of respectating, economical value and social value were significant. Also, it was found that spectating satisfaction had a positive relationship with a desire of respectating. As implications according to the result of the study, firstly, it is necessary for music performance planner or performing artist to inspire emotional value of audience in order to increase spectating satisfaction of the audience, and performances needs to be planned considering economical values. Secondly, in order to improve desire of respectating, it is important to analyze which elements can increase economical and social values of the audience.

  • Pepper is the most important horticultural plant in Korean farm. Pepper harvesting has been known to be the most difficult process in pepper cultivation so that demand for mechanization is strong. In a research to develop a pepper harvesting machine performance and capacity of the harvester should be determined based on both economical feasibility and machine design concept. In order to accomplish an economical analysis of the pepper harvester, a mathematical model for comparing manual harvesting cost to machine harvest cost was developed. Validity of the model depends on the data used in the model. Economical information for the model variables was acquired from the result of farm survey on pepper cultivation technique and economics of pepper farmer. Technical information on pepper harvester were also collected through literature review and analyzed. Based on the economical analysis and synthesis of the technical information on pepper harvesters, its performance and capacity were determined. The operating performances of the harvester such as cutting, conveying, flipping, pepper removing and post-processing (sorting) were determined. Daisy capacity of the machine was determined to be 0.41 ha. A pepper harvester with the suggested capacity was economically feasible if the price of pepper harvester, pepper recovery ratio and service life of harvester were about 6 million won, 80%, and 4 years, respectively.

  • It is of great importance to be able to evaluate different structural systems not only based on their seismic performance but also considering their lifetime service costs. Many structural systems exist that can meet the engineering requirements for different performance levels; therefore, these systems shall be selected based on their economic costs over time. In this paper, two structural systems, including special steel moment-resisting and the ordinary concentric braced frames, are considered, which are designed to meet the three performance levels: Immediate Occupancy (IO), Life Safety (LS), Collapse Prevention (CP). The seismic behavior of these two systems is studied under three strong ground motions (i.e., Tabas, Bam, Kajour earthquake records) using the Perform3D package, and the incurred damages to the studied systems are examined at two hazard levels. Economic analyses were performed to determine the most economical structural system to meet the specified performance level requirements, considering the initial cost and costs associated with damages of an earthquake that occurred during their lifetime. In essence, the economic lifetime study results show that the special moment-resisting frames at IO and LS performance levels are at least 20% more economical than braced frames. The result of the study for these building systems with different heights designed for different performance levels also shows it is more economical from the perspective of long-term ownership of the property to design for higher performance levels even though the initial construction cost is higher.

  • Many vehicles have significantly under-inflated tires, primarily because drivers infrequently check their vehicles' tire pressure. When a tire is used while significantly under-inflated, its sidewalls flex more and the tire temperature increases, increasing stress and the risk of failure. In this study we evaluated tire safety and economical efficiency at various inflation pressure. For tire safety we performed FMVSS indoor durability test, measurement of rolling tire temperature, braking performance at dry/wet road condition, and rolling resistance test for economical efficiency. Results show that low pressure decreases tire durability of both speed-increase condition and load-increase condition. Heat temperature of rolling tire increases as pressure decreases and significantly under-inflated tires cause increase of vehicle's stopping distance at wet road condition. Also Under-inflation increases the rolling resistance of a tire and, correspondingly, decreases vehicle's fuel economy.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships between the community business, performance and the life satisfaction of local residents and to investigate the mediating effects that community business performance has on the life satisfaction of local residents. The results of the study investigating the effect of community business, performance and the residents' life satisfaction mediating effect of performance are summarized as follows: First, there were differences with the economical, environmental, and performance factors pertaining to the participants' age while there were no differences concerning the social-cultural factors and the life satisfaction of local residents. Second, the higher the impact a community business has, the higher the life satisfaction of the local residents have. In addition, the higher the performance in community business, the more ready local residents are to be inclined to be satisfied. Third, economical and environmental factors have direct effects on the life satisfaction of local residents, but also indirectly effect the performance of local residents. In addition, the level of performance that a community business plays has a mediating role in the life satisfaction of local residents.
