  • The aim of the study is to implement a factor analysis of the determinants of pricing in a state-regulated competitive market using economic and mathematical modelling methods and to develop ways to improve the pricing environment of the market under study. The purpose of the work defines the main objectives: (i) to investigate the features of the competitive model of the Ukrainian flour market; (ii) to analyse the current price conjuncture of the flour market and the dynamics of the main determinants of pricing; (iii)to develop ways of improving the price situation on the flour market on the basis of the factor analysis on the results of economic and mathematical modelling. In order to ensure the reliability and validity of the research results, the following methods were applied: the logical-dialectical method of scientific knowledge in the study of the main theoretical aspects of flour market functioning, the method of logical generalisation and synthesis, comparison, factor analysis, correlation and regression analysis, the graphical method, etc. It has been shown that pricing in a state-regulated competitive market has its own characteristics. For example, in the flour market the price of goods cannot be influenced by producers (sellers) by any methods, therefore determinants of pricing by indirect influence have been taken into account. The five-factor power model of wheat flour price has been constructed. It was substantiated that the price of wheat flour in Ukraine is mostly influenced by consumer price index (0.92 %). The received complex model of wheat flour price may be used also for medium-term forecasting and working out the ways of price formation optimization in the flour market.

  • This paper presents an efficient evaluation method on the role of new energy storage systems, especially the secondary Battery Energy Storage (BES) systems, in the case where they are interconnected with the power distribution systems. It is important to perform the economic evaluation for the new energy storage systems in a synthetical and quantitative manner, because they are very costly in the early stage of their development and commercialization. In this paper, the multiple functions of BES systems, which are operated at distribution systems, such as load levelling, effective utilization of power distribution systems and uninterruptible power supply at the emergency conditions are classified and analyzed. And then the quantitative evaluation methods of the multiple functions for BES systems are proposed using the mathematical modelling.

  • This paper deals with the possibility on the hybrid power system concerning wind energy at a really existing island, Sunyoo-do in the west sea near Seamangeum. In the present stage, Diesel system produces all the electrical power of the Island. However, in the new proposed system of Diesel and wind energy, an optimized guideline for drive from the economic analysis on this hybrid system is given by a mathematical and statistical modelling with a share software HOMER (hybrid optimization model for electric renewables). After a series of analysis it has been shown that the hybrid system can reduce the total expenses as well as air pollution.

  • In this study, we first present a brief overview of the Korean general insurance market. We then explore the characteristics of the loss ratios of the Korean general insurance industry and apply Markov regime-switching methodology to model the loss ratios of these insurance companies by line of business based on changes in economic regimes. This study applies a number of confirmatory tests such as Zivot-Andrews test (2002), the Chow (1960) test and the Bai and Perron (1998) to confirm the presence of structural breaks in the time series of the loss ratios by line of business. Then, we employ Markov regime-switching methodology to model these loss ratios. We find empirical evidence that the loss ratios reported by insurance companies in Korea is characterized by two distinct regimes; a regime with high volatility and a regime with low volatility, except for vehicle insurance. Our analyses suggest that macro-economic conditions have significant explanatory effect on loss ratios but the direction of effect differs based on the line of business and the regime. Unlike previous studies that have applied linear regressions or divided the samples into different periods and then apply linear regressions to model loss ratios, we argue for the application of Markov regime-switching methodology, which are able to automatically distinguish the different regimes that may be associated with the movements of loss ratios based on differing economic conditions and regulatory upheavals. This study provides a more in depth understanding of loss ratios in the general insurance industry and will be of value to insurance practitioners in modelling the loss ratios associated with their businesses to aid in their decision making. The results may also provide a basis for further studies in other markets apart from Korea as well as for shaping policy decisions related to loss ratios.

  • Ensuring the economic security of agro-industrial complexes of Ukrainian regions has become a top-priority task of state regional policy, as their stable functioning is an essential element of economic security of the whole country. It is overcoming threats to the development of the agro-industrial complex that ensures its further effective functioning and has a significant impact on the economic security of our state. Methods: logical method; methods of system analysis; synthesis; economic and statistical method; method of expert assessment; SWOT analysis; economic and mathematical modelling and planning. Results. Characteristic features of economic security have been given. The essence and significance of the agro-industrial complex in improving the economic security of the state have been determined. It has been noted that in recent years, the agro-industrial complex, which acts as a driver of the domestic economy and has a direct impact on the development of the country, has been growing (in 2019 the cereal and legume harvest exceeded 75 million tons, 20,269 thousand tons of potatoes were dug, more than 15 million tons of sunflower, 9,688 thousand tons of vegetables and 2,119 thousand tons of fruits and berries were harvested, meat and egg production increased by 137.5 thousand tons (or 5.8%) and 545.5 million pieces (or 3.4%), respectively, the number of employed population in agriculture increased by 139.8 thousand people (or 4.9%), the labour productivity in crop production increased by UAH 294.4 thousand (or 44.6%), in livestock production - by UAH 311.3 thousand (or 61.8%)). Based on the system of production and economic indicators, the analysis of the state of the agro-industrial complex has been carried out. Taking into account the results of the obtained data and using SWOT-analysis, the major threats to the development of the agro-industrial complex have been identified. Ways of overcoming threats enhancing the economic security of Ukraine have been proposed.

  • Sea dike construction for the tidal flat reclamation works in estuary and coast may change the characteristics of tidal motion and wave conditions in the region. In turn, a new hydraulic condition provides the impacts on sediment transport pattern and forms a new morphological environment. Also, morphological changes during the closure works of sea dike are closely related with a safy of sea dike. Therefore, the prediction of morphological changes is required secure the safe closure work and the economic design of sea dikes. To investigate morphological changes due to sea dike construction, hydrodynamic changes of tides and waves have to be evaluated, then sediment transport and sea bottom changes are computed. Mathematical modelling is required for representation of interrelation of tidal motion, wave and sediment transport. In this study, numerical model MORSYS is applied to compute the hydrodynamics and morphological changes around the closure gap for Saemankuem dike. This model allows a flexible integration of the module for waves, currents, sediment transport and bottom changes.

  • The usual procedure for the optimal design of ship's steering system is to minimize a chosen quadratic performance index, which isdetermined from the view point of economic run. However, the optimal control synthesized in such a straightforward fashion is unsatisfactory because ship's parameters differ from their nominal values due to uncertainties and errors in measurement and/or simplifications in mathematical modelling, and/or the variation of the ship's loading condition. In an attempt to resolve this difficulty, this paper presents a method for designing a low sensitive optimal steering system in a way as to minimize not only given performance index but also the sensitivity of the performance index and trajectory sensitivity. It is also shown that the optimal control so obtained will result in a system whose performance index and transient response are low sensitive to small varation in ship's time constant.

  • Objective: The aim of the paper was to compare the fit of data derived from daily automatic milking systems (AMS) and monthly test-day records with the use of lactation curves; data was analysed separately for primiparas and multiparas. Methods: The study was carried out on three Polish Holstein-Friesians (PHF) dairy herds. The farms were equipped with an automatic milking system which provided information on milking performance throughout lactation. Once a month cows were also subjected to test-day milkings (method A4). Most studies described in the literature are based on test-day data; therefore, we aimed to compare models based on both test-day and AMS data to determine which mathematical model (Wood or Wilmink) would be the better fit. Results: Results show that lactation curves constructed from data derived from the AMS were better adjusted to the actual milk yield (MY) data regardless of the lactation number and model. Also, we found that the Wilmink model may be a better fit for modelling the lactation curve of PHF cows milked by an AMS as it had the lowest values of Akaike information criterion, Bayesian information criterion, mean square error, the highest coefficient of determination values, and was more accurate in estimating MY than the Wood model. Although both models underestimated peak MY, mean, and total MY, the Wilmink model was closer to the real values. Conclusion: Models of lactation curves may have an economic impact and may be helpful in terms of herd management and decision-making as they assist in forecasting MY at any moment of lactation. Also, data obtained from modelling can help with monitoring milk performance of each cow, diet planning, as well as monitoring the health of the cow.

  • It is evident that in the wind energy business as an economic activity there is a close relationship between the wind speed and the revenues. The wind turbine test facility for wind turbine accreditation is intended to be used by the industry for testing of both main components and systems. This paper suggest the wind test site for certification of prototype wind turbine with international regulations. The test site has an environmental permit for wind turbines with a maximum hub height of 120m and a rotor diameter up to 120m, and can accommodate prototypes with installed electrical powers up to 5MW each. A wind turbine manufacturer can lease the location for a period of type certification. And also researchers are the development of new methods for measuring the influence, performance and durability of the components, a mathematical and numerical modelling of component responses by using the site.
