미래를 위한 생태학으로서 복원생태학의 발전과 전망 (Development and Outlook of Restoration Ecology as an Ecology for the Future)

  • 인간은 생활환경을 확장하고 그 환경의 질을 향상시키기 위해 문명화를 진전시키는 과정에서 많은 자연환경을 양적으로 잠식하고, 그 질을 저하시켜 왔다. 이러한 인간활동을 많은 생물종을 사라지게 하였고, 인간자신도 그 자신의 존재를 위협하는 환경문제에 직면하게 하였다. 이러한 사실을 인식한 인간의 반응이 복원생태학의 성립과 발전으로 표출되고 있다. 복원생태학은 온전한 자연의 체계와 기능을 모방하여 훼손된 환경을 치유하는 환경기술이다. 이러한 복원은 훼손의 정도에 따라 처리방법이 다르고, 그 규모나 목표에 따라서도 그 종류를 구분할 수 있다. 따라서 그 시행을 위해서는 생태학적 진단이 필요하고, 그러한 진단결과에 기초하여 처방할 때 비용과 노력을 절약하고 상정한 목표에도 도달할 수 있다. 이런 점에서 복원생태학은 기존의 생태학에 토대를 두고 현실세계를 탐구하는 실용학문이며, 그에 더하여 기존의 생태학적 연구를 통하여 획득된 개념과 이론을 현장에서 검증하는 하나의 현장실습인 것이다. 인간은 지구라는 생태계에서 생활하면서 어떤 면에서 무리하게 자연을 이용하였지만, 어떤 면에서 불가피하게 자연을 훼손해 왔다. 더구나 이러한 이용과 훼손은 앞으로도 지속될 전망이다. 그러한 현상이 인류의 생존을 위협하는 환경문제를 몰고 오는 오늘의 시점에서 우리는 아무런 대비없이 그 생활을 계속 이어갈 수는 없다. 불필요한 이용을 줄이고, 부족한 부분을 보충하며, 취약한 부분을 보완하는 생태학적 복원을 추구하여 다가 올 미래의 환경위기에 대비하여야 한다. 이런 점에서 복원생태학은 미래를 위한 생태학으로 인정될 수 있을 것이다.

지속가능성 교육을 위한 초등학교 생태감사 프로그램 개발 방안 (A Study to develop an ecological audit program in elementary schools for sustainability education)

  • 이 연구의 목적은 지속가능성 교육을 위하여 초등학교 교육과정에 적용할 수 있는 생태감사 프로그램의 개발 방안을 마련하는 것이다. 학교 생태감사는 학생 또는 학교라는 집단이 학교의 환경적 문제점을 스스로 파악하고 해결할 수 있도록 하는 것으로, 이를 통해 오래갈 의사결정과 태도를 함양할 수 있다. 문헌 연구를 통해 초등학교 교육과정에 적용 가능한 생태감사 프로젝트 학습 프로그램을 개발하였다. 개발한 프로그램은 6학년을 대상으로 하며, 생태감사의 절차적 과정 및 교육과정을 반영하여 16차시로 구성하였다. 개발된 프로그램의 학교 현장 안착 및 학교 지속가능성 향상을 위해서는 학교 환경을 주기적으로 관찰할 수 있는 학교 환경관리 시스템의 도입과 학교 교사의 역량 강화, 학교 외부의 전문적 인증제도 등이 필요하다. 그리고 이러한 상향식 정책 결정 체제로서, 학생들의 환경교육 활동을 통한 지속 가능한 학교 문화 확산도 기대할 수 있다.

광역생태축 구축을 위한 기준 및 관리지역 설정 연구 (A Study on the Setting Criteria and Management Area for the National Ecological Network)

  • This study was performed to show criteria of a National Ecological Network (NEN) for South Korea and it was a part of a study of ecological network for broad areas on national land showed by Ministry of Environment of Korea. After 1970s, many european countries presented methods and criteria not on individual protected area but on networking among many habitats. The PEEN (Pan European Ecological Network) and NATURA 2000 are results of those. In South Korea, concepts and mapping metheods of ecological network was studied but those were not applied to the whole national land because the equality and local specialities were not reflected. So, in this study, we presented the criteria composed of forest, river, wildlife and coastal evaluation items in conservation ecology and showed the mapping method which can applied to the national land. After the evaluation on land area which composed of forest, river and wildlife axis. Core areas were $30,616km^2$, buffer zone were $21,870km^2$ and each accounted for 31% and 22% of the national land. Except for Taebaeck-Gangwon region, whole region's core areas were accounted for 20~30% of it and buffer zone were accounted for 20~25% of it, so these can be applied to the national land with equality and local specialities. Forest axis and river axis were clearly linear and connected, but the wildlife axis was dispersed in point form. Therefore, to apply the NEN, a detailed habitat map is important and the interconnected implementation of forest, river, wildlife, and coastal axis is required.

모의실험에 의한 청주S(3)택지개발지구 원흥이생태공원일대 우수저류시설의 빗물저류효과 분석 연구 (A Study on the Analysis of the Water Quantity of the Rainwater Detention System based on the Planning Simulation in the Wonheungs' ecological park)

  • The purpose of this research is to analyze the water quantity of the rainwater detention system based on the Planning Simulation in Residential Areas. The contents of this research consists of two main parts. The first part is to calculate the supply water quantity of the rainwater detention system and the demand water quantity of the Wonheungs' ecological park. The second part is to analyze the difference between demand and supply of water quantity, based on the Planning Simulation, in the rainwater detention system. This research will contribute to the establishment of the environment-friendly site planning methods which increase the quality of residential environment in apartment housing.

  • The quality of urban environment where large population reside is becoming more vitally important than ever. Recently the city of Seoul has launched a 'green city' program converting number of city owned lots into urban parks. In this study, we first investigate four recently opened city parks with water ponds in Seoul. This study then classify these parks according to their respective designs, particularly addressing design and environmental impacts by water features. From these exercises, we derive the following interim findings: 1. Design patterns of waterscape is changing. 2. Water in the city park is a major design feature. 3. Design methodology for city parks must be studied further.

  • The objective of this study is to propose the whole idealistical process for ecological area zoning based on the natural environment analysis. In order to draw out the ecological zoning, this study used the remote sensing, GIS method and field survey. As a result of this study showed that it was helpful in establishing development direction of Midong Mountain, minimizing the impact on environment by drawing out a development suitable land based on the objective standards and data and also preventing the misconduct development in advance.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of visual properties on the human movement behavior experimentally and empirically using spatial analysis technique based on ecological perception theory. For the survey of choosing behaviors of heading direction in built environments, the experiment was conducted in which the subjects were made to choose moving directions in some spaces using the virtual environment simulation tool, and then comparative analysis was conducted on the interrelation between the experiment results and various visual properties in existing spatial analysis techniques based on ecological perception theory. As a result, the occlusivity of the isovist theory was found to be the most significant index in the human choice of heading direction, and the longest radial also showed somewhat significant effect on it.

한국의 저서성 대형무척추동물 생태점수 개선 (Revision of Ecological Score of Benthic Macroinvertebrates Community in Korea)

  • In 1997, the environmental score (Q) corresponding the tolerance value of Korean benthic macroinvertebrate species and the related biotic score, the ecological score of benthic macroinvertebrates (ESB) were proposed; ESB was similar to Beck's biotic index or Chandler's biotic score. This study was carried out to revise the Q values of individual species and the assessment scheme of ESB based on the taxonomic performance and ecological information accumulated since then. The original ESB was renamed as TESB (total ESB), and AESB (average ESB) was newly proposed. AESB is calculated by dividing the TESB (for a given station) by the number of species present in the sample. In this study, TESB showed a positively skewed distribution, while AESB showed a negatively skewed distribution. The correlation between TESB and the concentration of $BOD_5$ was a little stronger than that of the original ESB. TESB showed a very strong correlation (correlation coefficient r = 0.98) with Margalef's species richness, of which correlation coefficient was higher than that of AESB (r = 0.85). AESB showed a strong correlation (r = -0.79) with the concentration of $BOD_5$, while TESB showed a weaker correlation (r = -0.67). Applying TESB and AESB together in an assessment of the environment may be comprehensive because the physical and chemical states of the environment can be evaluated together. AESB is less dependent on the sample size, while TESB tends to increase as the sample size increases. In the evaluation of the environment using TESB, it is necessary to standardize the methods on monitoring.

고령화 사회를 위한 생태 공동주거 계획에 관한 연구 - 미 서부 생태 공동주거 단지 사례를 중심으로 - (A Study on the Planning of the Eco-Villages for Aging Society - Focused on the Cases of the Environmental Co-Housings in Western America -)

  • Ecological villages should be designed not only for simply reducing environmental impact such as energy saving and alternative energy use, resource conservation and circulation, harmony with surrounding environment and nature, but also for encouraging social contact and community activities with the residents, especially the aged people. The aim of this paper is to find the ecological and social design elements for the ecological village planning derived through case studies. The case studies are selected from the environmental Co-housings in Western America, surveyed in the years of 2008 and 2009. The results are as follows; 1. The ecological design elements, although there are some differences in size and type, were found to be basically applied in every ecological villages. 2. The community activities are actively conducted with the participation of the residents based on a variety of programs. The two main purposes of the community activities are strengthening the residents' familiarity with each other and the volunteer services to the local community where they belong.

An initial study on ecological environment changes after emergent water transportation at lower reaches of Tarim River, China based on remote sensing technique

  • Tarim River is the longest continental river in China. Its downstream ecological environment declination and valley remedy got great concern. To improve ecological environment of lower Tarim River, “Emergent water transportation project for Tarim river valley remedy” was carried out from May 2000. Water was transported five times till May 2003. Several periods MODIS image was used to monitor water body in river channel. Two periods ETM image was used to interpreter changes of environment. Area of vegetation in 1999 was similar with 2001, but become better in total. The normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) and vegetative coverage reflected environment changed better.
