The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries is supporting the "Environmentally Friendly Fisheries Promotion and Private Assistance Project" to increase production of eco-friendly, high-value-added foods. Private-backed operators selected for the project will have an economic opportunity to build, expand or refurbish eco-friendly fishing grounds. To facilitate this, the scope of project support was expanded after 2015 and an opportunity was prepared for private subsidy projects to grow to a new level in terms of quality and quantity by switching to a public offering project. However, starting in 2017, demand from the private sector will plunge and selected projects will be delayed or the project implementation rate will be lowered. It was a time for subsidy-related laws and systems to be reinforced but private subsidy projects do not temporarily shrink simply due to the increased administrative burden on private subsidy operators on subsidy management. It plans to review the correlation between laws and systems related to the construction of fish farms and suggest ways to enhance the efficiency of implementation so that economic advantages, the biggest advantage of the private subsidy project, can be recovered within the current legal system.

An eco-friendly integrated multi-trophic aquaculture (IMTA) farming technique was developed with the goal of resolving eutrophication by excess feed and feces as fish-farming by-products. A variety of seaweed species were tried to remove inorganic nutrients produced by fish farming. However, there have been few trials to use Sargassum fulvellum in an IMTA system, a species with a relatively wide distribution across regions with various habitat conditions, great nutrient removal efficiency and importance for human food source and industrial purposes. In this regard, our study tried to examine feasibility of using S. fulvellum in an IMTA system by analyzing growth characteristics of the species in an IMTA system comprising of rockfish (Sebastes shlegeli), sea cucumber (Stichopus japonocus) and the tried S. fulvellum (October 2011 - November 2012). We also monitored environment conditions around the system including current speed, water temperature and inorganic nutrient level as they may affect growth of S. fulvellum. S. fulvellum in the IMTA system, which were $15.72{\pm}5.67mm$ long at the start of the experiment in October 2011, grew to a maximum of $1093{\pm}271.13mm$ by May 2012. In September, seaweed growth was reduced to a minimum of $280{\pm}70.43mm$ in length. Then, S. fulvellum began to grow again reaching $325{\pm}196.19mm$ by November 2012. Wet weight of the seaweed was $4.01{\pm}1.89g$ at the start of the experiment and reached a maximum of $109.26{\pm}34.23g$ in May. The weight gradually declined to a low of $15.12{\pm}8.40g$ in September 2012. Weight began to increase once more, rising to $39.27{\pm}21.69g$ by November. During the experiment, the average velocity at the surface and the bottom was 6.5 cm/s and 3.4 cm/s, respectively. The water temperature ranged $5.0-23.5^{\circ}C$, which was considered suitable for growing S. fulvellum. Results of the study indicated no significant differences in inorganic nutrients between pre- and post-IMTA installation. It was thus concluded that S. fulvellum can be a suitable seaweed species to be used in an IMTA system.

Recent climate change and ensure each country's marine fisheries resources due to the sharp decline to address the eco-friendly farming has emerged. Marine aquaculture operations to provide ease of use for the fishing ship cranes. In this paper, we use the default handler for the shipping cranes and improve the working environment of the received video equipment in the work area through the monitoring and analysis of visual information to optimize the image, convenient and high visibility for workers to have real-time video guide system is proposed.
This study was conducted to evaluate effects of dietary microbial probiotics on the growth and disease resistance of olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) in a recirculating aquaculture system (RAS), and the effects of the probiotic bioaugmentation on the microbial community structure and water quality. For the analysis, 80 juvenile fish (average weight, $25.7{\pm}7.6g$; average length, $15.2{\pm}1.7cm$) were fed a basal diet containing a commercial microbial product CES-AQ1 (CES; $1{\times}10^9\;CFU/kg$ diet) in an RAS for 8 weeks. Weight gain, the specific growth rate, feed efficiency, and protein efficiency ratio of the fish fed the CES diet in the RAS were 1.5~2.5 times higher than those of fish fed the basal diet alone, or the basal diet containing oxytetracycline (OTC), yeast plus bacterium, or Bacillus subtilis in a still water system. There was no significant difference in the pathogen challenge test between fish fed the OTC diet and fish fed the CES diet in the RAS, suggesting the CES-AQ1 probiotic used in the RAS as a potential replacement for antibiotics. The RAS biofilter maintained the highest microbial diversity and appeared to harbor microbial communities with ammonium oxidation, denitrification, and fish pathogen suppression functions. Ammonia, which is hazardous to fish, was significantly decreased to < 0.5 mg/L in 19 days, indicating the effectiveness of probiotic supplementation to maintain good water quality in RAS. These results suggest that the intestinal microbial communities of fish are stabilized by a probiotic-containing diet (CES) and that bioaugmentation with probiotics may be an eco-friendly and economical supplement for aquaculture of olive flounder, promoting both good water quality and fish health in an RAS.
The ecological changes in the ocean due to the drastic global warming require that action be taken to sustain the productivity of fisheries. Proper ocean facilities could help prevent the loss of the expenditures made on marine aquaculture and reduce the related compensation for various ocean conditions. The aim of this study was to develop a floating ocean wave-breaker using an eco-friendly concrete and conducting a site survey, a structural analysis, and a test of towing the tank. As a result, the wave at the fish farm would be reduced. The results of the holding power of anchors and the capability of moving the floating structures were considered in the design of the wave-breaker. The analyses of the material properties of concrete and the steel structures, as well as the CAPEX and OPEX analyses of the manufacturing and operation processes confirmed the superiority of the floating concrete wave-breaker. In particular, this study demonstrated that the concrete floating breakwater can protect the fish farm against typhoons and reverse-waves, thereby reducing losses of the fish.
Background: Significant increases in the bacterial resistance to various antibiotics have been found in fish farms. Non-antibiotic therapies for infectious diseases in aquaculture are needed. In recent years, light-emitting diode technology has been applied to the inactivation of pathogens, especially those affecting humans. The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of blue light (wavelengths 405 and 465 nm) on seven major bacterial pathogens that affect fish and shellfish important in aquaculture. Results: We successfully demonstrate inactivation activity of a 405/465-nm LED on selected bacterial pathogens. Although some bacteria were not fully inactivated by the 465-nm light, the 405-nm light had a bactericidal effect against all seven pathogens, indicating that blue light can be effective without the addition of a photosensitizer. Photobacterium damselae, Vibrio anguillarum, and Edwardsiella tarda were the most susceptible to the 405-nm light (36.1, 41.2, and $68.4J\;cm^{-2}$, respectively, produced one log reduction in the bacterial populations), whereas Streptococcus parauberis was the least susceptible ($153.8J\;cm^{-2}$ per one log reduction). In general, optical density (OD) values indicated that higher bacterial densities were associated with lower inactivating efficacy, with the exception of P. damselae and Vibrio harveyi. In conclusion, growth of the bacterial fish and shellfish pathogens evaluated in this study was inactivated by exposure to either the 405- or 465-nm light. In addition, inactivation was dependent on exposure time. Conclusions: This study presents that blue LED has potentially alternative therapy for treating fish and shellfish bacterial pathogens. It has great advantages in aspect of eco-friendly treating methods differed from antimicrobial methods.
We studied improvement in marine environmental impact assessment and related management systems of coastal sediments that are dredged inshore but disposed offshore. After reviewing and diagnosing the existing assessment procedures and problems, we recommend to design the core assessment items and improve the reliability of assessment byenhancing the quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) and verification processes. We proposed eco-friendly disposal plan for dredging sediment such as reuse system in land development was explored. A marine environmental database system was established to support the assessment processes. Guidelines for marine research and modelling were proposed for improving assessment of dredging and disposal of coastal sediment. Also, applying of screening and scoping for marine environmental assessment was reviewed.

To supply a stable amount of standard material to detect paralytic shellfish toxin (PST), we examined possible increases in toxic content in Alexandrium catenella and A. pacificum using a light emitting diode (LED), which is one of the most eco-friendly and economical lighting method. When comparing the growth rates of organisms and wavelengths of light used, the half saturation constants (Ks) of red wavelength were higher than those of other wavelengths. In contrast, the Ks of blue wavelength were lower than those of other wavelengths. Moreover, when comparing the toxic contents and wavelengths of light used, red wavelength produced approximately 8 times more toxic content in A. catenella and approximately 3.2 times more toxic content in A. pacificum than other wavelengths. Thus, the toxic content present in the organism might be closely related to the Ks of light. The optimum light source to be used to ensure economically ef ective and productive growth in an Alexandrium culture system (photo-bioreactor) would likely consist of a two-phase culture, wherein a blue LED is used during the lag and exponential phases to increase growth rates, followed by the use of a red LED during late exponential and stationary phases to achieve increased PST yields.

This study carried out current status, characteristics, and problems of coastal environment management on semi-enclosed Masan Bay in Korea and suggests cost-effective and eco-friendly water quality management policy. The pollutants from terrestrial sources into the Bay have apparently environmental pollution problems, such as eutrophication, red tide, and hypoxia. The carrying capacity of the Bay is estimated by hydrodynamic model and ecosystem model, material circulation including bivalve in ecosystem is analyzed by the growth model of bivalve. The resulting reduction in the input load was found to be 50~90%, which is unrealistic. When the efficiency of water quality improvement through bivalve farming was assessed based on the autochthonous COD, 30.7% of the total COD was allochthonous COD and 69.3% was autochthonous COD. The overall autochthonous COD reduction rate by bivalve aquaculture farm was found to be about 6.7%. This study indicate that bivalve farming is about 31% less expensive than advanced treatment facilities that remove both nitrogen and phosphorous.
We investigated environmental characteristics of the tidal flat oyster aquafarms to clarifyeffects of the tidal flat environmental factors on growth and mortality of the tidal flat oyster Crassostrea gigas by the Net Bag Rack Culture System in two districts in Western Korea. In this study, we have carried out the basic environmental investigation on growth of the single tidal flat, water quality and sediments, etc. in Taean and Seosan districts, Choongcheongnam-do, where the single tidal flat oyster aquaculture have been performed by the net bag rack culture system. In June 2011 when the final survey carried out at the two districts in western Korea, the mortality in Seosan district was higher than that in Tae-an district. Judging from the results of growth and mortality of the single tidal flat oysters investigated at two sites of Jinsan-ri in Taean and Chang-ri in Seosan districts, two results of Taean district showed higher growth and lower mortality than those of Seosan district. It is assumed that the proper acceptable density possible for growth of the tidal flat seeds and the secure of economics, in case of plastic cultivate net with the size of $50{\times}80cm$, are about 200 individuals. In this study, It was clarified that selection of the suitable sites, the input into the net bag of high quality oyster seeds and selective dispersion in the optimal density of the single tidal flat oyster have an effect on growth and mortality of the tidal flat oyster.
