Water Sorption Behaviors of Poly(Propylene Carbonate)/Exfoliated Graphite Nanocomposite Films (폴리프로필렌 카보네이트/박리흑연 나노복합필름의 수분흡수 거동)

  • In order to apply eco-friendly poly(propylene carbonate) (PPC) into barrier packaging materials, six different PPC/exfoliated graphite (EFG) nanocomposite films with different EFG were successfully prepared by a solution blending method. Their water sorption behavior was gravimetrically investigated as a function of the EFG content and interpreted with respect to their chemical structure and morphology. The water sorption isotherms were reasonably well fitted by Fickian diffusion model, regardless of morphological heterogeneities. With increasing the EFG content, the diffusion coefficient and water uptake decreased from $12.5{\times}10^{-10}cm^2sec^{-1}$ to $7.2{\times}10^{-10}cm^2sec^{-1}$ and from 8.9 wt% to 4.2 wt%, respectively, which indicates that the moisture resistance capacity of PPC was greatly enhanced by incorporating EFG into PPC. The enhanced water barrier property of the PPC/EFG nanocomposite films with the high aspect ratio EFG makes them potential candidates for versatile packaging applications. However, to maximize the performance of the nanocomposite films, further researches are required to increase the compatibility of EFG in the PPC matrix.

  • As environmental issues are emerging, bio-plastic suppliers in leading countries have been foreseeing the strong needs for environment-friendly materials such as eco-packing materials due to increased attention and regulation on recycle. To catch up with the demand, various types of bio-plastics based on natural feedstocks were developed and released on a market. These bio-plastic products drew the great attention even in domestic industries. At present, international oil price fluctuation and heavy charge on waste raise the unit cost of production and disposal expense of conventional plastic materials. These conditions make bio-plastic an alternative, because it is not restrained by oil prices and problem in the disposal. It is also expected that bio-plastic will be applied to various types of products including containers, industrial supplies, disposables, and medical supplies. However, the bio-plastic is still in its infancy, thus more research and understanding should be followed to put it to application. Bio-plastic is considered as environment-friendly material with high potential which has the advantages of production and disposal.

Development and Application of Cellulose Nanofiber Powder as a Nucleating Agent in Polylactic Acid (나노셀룰로오스 분말 개발과 폴리젖산 내 핵제 적용 연구)

  • Because of the global pollution caused by plastic disposal, demand for eco-friendly transformation in the packaging industry is increased. As part of that, the utilization of polylactic acid (PLA) as a food packaging material is increased. However, it is necessary to improve the crystallinity of PLA by adding nucleating agents or to improve the modulus by adding fillers because of the excessive brittleness of the PLA matrix. Thus, the cellulose nanofiber (CNF) was fabricated and dried to obtain a powder form and applied to the CNF/PLA nanocomposite. The effect of CNF on the morphological, thermal, rheological, and dynamic mechanical properties of the composite was analyzed. We can confirm the impregnated CNF particle in the PLA matrix through the field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM). Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analysis showed that the crystallinity of not annealed CNF/PLA nanocomposite was increased approximately 2 and 4 times in the 1st and 2nd cycle, respectively, with the shift to lower temperature of cold crystallization temperature (Tcc) in the 2nd cycle. Moreover, the crystallinity of annealed CNF/PLA nanocomposite increased by 13.4%, and shifted Tcc was confirmed.

Originally, the function and necessity of packaging is on preservability, but today it is expending before. then packaging is focusing on sales promotion. Although it is hard to say production itself, it could does when it is made. also, it is important for product to be goods when packaging and its materials are identification on matching each other. The role of packaging design is a core factor that satisfy consumer a various of needs and wants. In the past, the role of food packaging design is just preservability and delivery on product. but then, nawaday it is asked a various role. Not only present products have to get inherency but also have added value. That is, advanced technologies, information, and richness from materials which are diversity for coming a extention of choice. currently, food packaging design shouldn't have stayed on just packaging which cover beautiful. Packaging design is a symbolic sign. It is importance for manager to do R&D, producing, and distribution, also for consumer who use and buy the product whether manager and consumer think package design is a main mediation. This day, food design pay attention to be asking consumer's a number of sensitivity. It is the reason that the package is importance and exist. This article is to examine preservability, delivery, subdivision, aesthetic, serviceability, and environmental orientation in order to develop and show a method and theories to find package design in food industry the reason that why sales promotion and its profit increase. Consequently, draw on the function of package design effects the benefit on product is distribution. Green Design on the food packages by combining recycled and biodegradable food packages for the development of practices and long life to the look of the food package design practices.

Purchasing Status and Supplier Performance Evaluation of School Foodservice in Chanwon, Korea (창원시 학교급식 식재료 구매 실태 및 공급업체 수행도 평가)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the purchasing status and to compare supplier performance evaluations between competitive bidding and negotiated contracts in school foodservice in Changwon, Korea. A total of 190 questionnaires were distributed and 167 (return rate 87.9%) were collected from June 29 to September 28, 2010, and then a total of 151 (analysis rate 79.5%) were used for the final analysis. First, 91.4% of food product purchases for school meals were contracted through competitive bidding, especially limited competitive bidding. It mainly consisted of agricultural products, processed food, and eco-friendly agricultural products (fruit). Second, 78.8% of schools purchased food products by negotiated contracts, while single negotiation accounted for 59.7%. Food products by negotiated contract consisted of meat, kimchi, and fish. Third, the purchase status of competitive bidding and negotiated contracts showed a significant difference in agricultural products (p<0.001), fish (p<0.001), meats (p<0.001), poultry (p<0.001), antibiotic-free poultry (p<0.001), eco-friendly grain (p<0.001), eco-friendly agricultural products (fruit) (p<0.001), eco-friendly processed food (p<0.001), processed products (p<0.001), milk (p<0.001) and general grain (p<0.001) except for kimchi. Fourth, comparative analysis of supplier performance evaluation (on a 5-point Likert scale) of school foodservice showed that price of product of competitive bidding (3.73) was significantly higher than that of negotiated contract (2.95) (p<0.001), and the overall performance level of the negotiated contract (3.85) was significantly higher than that of competitive bidding (3.61) (p<0.01). The supplier performance evaluation levels of product packaging (p<0.01), product quality at the time of delivery (p<0.001), hygiene of products (p<0.001), consistency to specification (p<0.001), swiftness of return and exchange (p<0.001), emergency delivery (p<0.001), service of delivery staff (p<0.05), and handling of complaints (p<0.001) of negotiated contracts were significantly higher than those of competitive bidding of school foodservice. In conclusion, school foodservice selected food suppliers both by adopting competitive bidding and negotiated contracts. And there was a significant difference of school foodservice supplier performance between competitive bidding and negotiated contracts in Changwon, Korea.

  • Bio-based plastics containing the biomass content higher than 25 wt% have been considered as environment-friendly materials due to their effects on the reduction in the $CO_2$ emission and petroleum consumption as well as biodegradability after use. In this study, poly vinyl chloride, plant-derived plasticizers, by adding a biodegradable catalyst was observed a change in the biodegradability and physical properties. To produce the oxidative decomposition transparent bio film, which is broken down in the initial percent elongation and physical properties such as tensile strength, it was to test the safety of the product as a food packaging material. Poly vinyl chloride, primary plasticizer, secondary plasticizer, anti fogging agent, the combined stabilizer were mixed in a high speed mixer, then extruded using an extrusion molding machine, after cooling, winding, to produce a oxidative decomposition transparent bio film and the control film, with a thickness of $12{\mu}m$ through winder role. Mechanical properties tensile strength, elongation, and the maximum load elongation and biodegradation test. Transparent bio film produced by biodegradation catalyst is compared with the control film. Tensile strength and elongation of films were found to be no significant difference. Further, as a result of the biodegradation test for 45 days based on the ASTM D6954-04 method, biodegrability of film is 61.4%.

Development of Semi-Solid Apple Baby Food using High Pressure Processing and Quality Evaluation (초고압을 이용한 반고형 사과 이유식 개발 및 품질평가)

  • For the purpose of develop semi-solid baby food, we investigated ingredients, processing aids as a thickener, processing suitability test, natural antibrowning agent, packing method, novel preservation technology, storage test and quality evaluation. In results, semi-solid baby food was developed. It's formulation is eco-friendly apple as a main ingredients, natural rhubarb extract 5% and thickener 4%. Thickener was used brown rice puffing powder and sweet pumpkin puffing powder. High pressure processing(HPP) and pouch packaging was used as processing and novel preservation technology. In results of storage test and quality evaluation, shelf-life of semi-solid baby food was 15 days in $5^{\circ}C$ cold storage and hedonic score of sensory evaluation was 4.3/5.0. Taste of them was fresh and sweet.

Evaluation of Water Resistance Properties of Pulp Mold depending on the Types of Raw Materials and the Additives (원료종류 및 첨가제 처리에 따른 펄프몰드의 수분 저항성 평가)

  • The pulp mold attract the increasing concern as recyclable, biodegradable, and eco-friendly packaging materials. In order to broaden the applicability of the pulp mold as substitutes of the expanded styrofoam, the properties of various raw materials for the pulp mold were evaluated and the way for improving water resistance properties of the pulp mold were also tested by applying some additives. The higher value in the fines contents and in the water retention value were shown for the TMP (thermomechanical pulp), which resulted in the bulkier pulp mold with the higher moisture absorption property. In case of water resistance properties, the pulp mold made of white ledger stock showed the higher value in water contact angle and very slow water absorption rate. The addition of oil palm EFB fiber showed the improvement in the water resistance of the pulp mold made of UBKP. The effects of various additives on the improvement in the water resistance properties of the pulp mold were tested by using AKD, PVAm, epoxy resin. The application of AKD leaded to the higher increase in the water resistance. The results in this study showed the effects of AKD for the pulp mold could be improved and optimized by the application with fixing agent and by the ageing treatment after production.

A Study on the Importance and Satisfaction of Consumers in Selecting a Side Dish at a Coffee Shop (커피전문점 소비자의 사이드메뉴 선택 시 중요도와 만족도 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to provide the basic information necessary to efficiently run a coffee shop. It comparatively analyzes the relative importance and satisfaction of side menu selection characteristics through analyses on customer importance-satisfaction when selecting a side menu as well as their usage behavior of the side menu at coffee shops. According to reason price the analysis result on the differences in the coffee shop side menu importance and satisfaction, there was a difference because the importance of selecting a side menu was higher for the attributes of taste, health, packing & appearance, economics and personnel service compared to satisfaction among which the price of a side menu was found to be the top priority for improvement. The significance of coffee shop side menu for the respondents prior to usage as well as their satisfaction after usage was evaluated in order to comparatively analyze the relative importance and achievement of each characteristic through the IPA. The result indicated that the variables positioned in the Concentrate Here area (II) were related to economic feasibility such as reasonable price, appropriate price of set menu, telecommunication company affiliated service and coupon usage and point accumulation. As for the Keep up the Good Work area (I), there were many variables regarding personnel service including taste of side menu, blending with coffee, clean packing, clean packaging, staff's side menu knowledge, staff's quick response, staff's politeness and staff's sincere response. As for the variables in the Low Priority area (III), health variables on health such as nutritional value, eco-friendly food materials and calories were observed.

Increase heat dissipation efficiency of Al plate according to surface roughness treatment by sandpaper or sandblast (사포, 샌드블라스트로 표면 거칠기 처리에 따른 알루미늄 판의 방열 효율 증대)

  • Recently, as the interest in energy savings has increased, there has been increasing use of LED lighting, which is an eco-friendly device that replaces high energy consuming fluorescent lamps and incandescent lamps. In the case of a high output LED, however, the life time is shortened due to deterioration caused by heat generation. As a solution to this problem, this paper evaluated the LED life extension effect by increasing the convective heat transfer coefficient of the heat sink surface for LED packaging. A roughing process was carried out using sandpaper and sand blasting. The changes in surface roughness and surface area after each surface treatment process were evaluated quantitatively and the convective heat transfer coefficient was measured. When sandblasting and sandpaper were used to roughen the aluminum surface, a higher convection heat transfer coefficient was obtained compared to the untreated case, and a high heat dissipation efficiency of 82.76% was obtained in the sandblast treatment. Therefore, it is expected that the application of heat dissipation to the heat sink will extend the lifetime of the LED significantly and economically by increasing the heat efficiency.
