Modeling of a Switched Reluctance Motor in Sensorless and 'With Sensor' Modes

  • Switched Reluctance Motors (SRM) have emerged as viable alternatives to other adjustable speed drives such as vector controlled induction motors (VCIM) and permanent magnet brush-less (PMBL) motors due to their simple construction, ease of control, low inertia and higher operating speeds. However, the indispensability of the rotor position sensor in an SRM for its successful operation increases its cost, apart from causing other problems like decreasing its reliability and inability to operate in adverse environmental conditions. In this paper, a new sensorless control scheme for the SRM is advocated. The required fundamental data is obtained by analyzing the SRM using the Finite Elements (FE) package MAXWELL. The drive is studied in both 'with sensor' and 'sensorless' modes and a comparison of the performances, in both cases, is presented for various operating conditions.

Examining High School Students' BYOD Use under Office of Education-led Policy: Insights from the Technology Acceptance Model

  • Offices of Education in Korea is planning and implementing the BYOD (bring your own device) policy. In particular, the Seoul Metropolitan Education Office promoted the 'Dibud' (digital buddy) policy. Due to the relative newness of the policy, coupled with opposition from the council, it hasn't been fully implemented. This study focuses on a rare example of a high school that experienced BYOD under the Office of Education-led policy in all three grades. This study adapted key variables from the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). The regression results showed that both perceived usefulness (PU) and perceived ease of use (PEOU) significantly influenced intention to use Chromebooks and students' perceived learning outcomes. Analysis of the open-ended questionnaires revealed that students perceived positive benefits from using Chromebooks, such as easier data retrieval, improved academic performance, and increased learning productivity. Although the majority of respondents said there were no negative aspects to Chromebooks, negative factors included non-academic use, wireless network inconvenience, and device performance issues. The results of this study can provide data and understanding for future BYOD policies, specifically Chromebooks.

  • Effective internal communication is known to have a positive impact on business performance, but there is a lack of research on the effects of online channels for workplace communication. This study using regression analysis examines how task-technology fit, information richness, self-efficacy, perceived ease of use, and perceived usefulness related to online communication channels affect not only the satisfaction with the tools but also the effectiveness of them. Additionally, we verify how the organizational culture of online and offline communication shows the control effect. As a result, all five variables were positively correlated with internal communication channels satisfaction, and we found that the organizational culture of online and offline communication controls the relationship between online communication channels satisfaction and effectiveness.

Development of a Sunscreen Stick Formulation which is Water Resistant but Easily Washable

  • The aim of this study is to develop a sunscreen stick formulation technology with excellent water resistance and washability. Consumers' needs for sunscreen products are diversifying. Water resistance and ease of washing are both important factors in sunscreen products. However, it is difficult to develop a sunscreen formulation that satisfies these two factors at the same time, because these two elements are in conflict. Fatty acid has a hydrophobic property against the water with low or neutral pH, but when it contacts with soapy water which has high pH, saponification occurs and the fatty acids become surfactants and can be dispersed in the water. Using the reaction characteristics of fatty acids, we can make sunscreen that is highly resistant to water or sweat, but is only selectively removed from soapy water. We found that the sunscreen stick containing fatty acids had better water resistance and washability than the sunscreen sticks without fatty acid. The sunscreen stick containing fatty acids showed a tendency to improve water resistance by scattering ultraviolet rays of long wavelength area by forming insoluble precipitation with divalent ions in tap water after immersion. In addition, an increase in the fatty acid content tended to also increase the ease of cleaning the sunscreen stick. Solid fatty acid was advantageous in improving water resistance than liquid fatty acid, but there was no difference between solid fatty acids and liquid fatty acid in washability. When it comes to stability, the sunscreen stick using liquid fatty acids maintained a high hardness and melting point, and showed no sweating. Based on this study, it is possible to develop an easy washable sunscreen stick formulation technology that has excellent water resistance but is selectively removed only in soapy water.

A study on the Continuous Intention to Use of Augmented Reality Applications: Focusing on the Technology Acceptance Model2(TAM2) (증강현실 애플리케이션 지속사용의도 연구: 기술수용모델2(TAM2)를 중심으로)

  • This study examines the determinants that affect the continuous intention to use of augmented reality applications by applying the technology acceptance model2(TAM2). A survey was conducted on 241 people, and the main results were derived by performing confirmatory factor analysis, correlation analysis, and path analysis using SPSS 21.0 and AMOS 21.0 programs. Presenting the results, it was found that the user's interface, interactivity, and relative advantage of the augmented reality application had a positive effect on perceived usefulness, and technological self-efficacy had a positive effect on perceived usefulness and perceived ease. Perceived ease of use had a positive effect on perceived usefulness, and both perceived usefulness and perceived ease had a positive effect on continuous intention to use of augmented reality applications. In future research, it will be necessary to verify the user effect of augmented reality applications by applying the fields of education or games.

A Study on the Factors Influencing Continuous Intention to Use of OTT Service Users: Focused on the Extension of Technology Acceptance Model (OTT서비스 이용자의 지속사용의도 영향 요인에 관한 연구: 기술수용모델의 확장을 중심으로)

  • This study verified the factors influencing continuous intention to use of OTT service users through technology acceptance model and extension. For this purpose, the main results were derived through correlation analysis and path analysis using SPSS 21.0 program and AMOS 21.0 program. The summary is as follows. First, perceived ease of use was found to have a statistically significant positive effect on perceived usefulness. Second, perceived ease of use did not have a statistically significant effect on continuous intention to use. Third, the perceived usefulness has a statistically significant positive effect on continuous intention to use. Fourth, perceived innovativeness has a statistically significant positive effect on perceived ease of use. Fifth, perceived innovativeness has a statistically significant positive effect on continuous intention to use. Sixth, perceived playfulness has a statistically significant positive effect on continuous intention to use. The above results will be meaningful in that it has revealed a path to understand the extension of the technology acceptance model of OTT services and acceptance of OTT services.

  • Supporting communications among users, Social Network has encouraged various information flows through relationships among them. This paper studies on mentality or attitude of Social Network Services (SNS for short) users, on the basis of Technology Acceptance Model (TAM for short) and then proposes so-called TAMS, Technology Acceptance Model for Social Network Services. SNS users make full use of SNS as channels in order to create, expand, and obtain some information related to personal concerns. We will research on how the benefits that users get by using SNS exert influence on user-perceived usability. The SNS-using benefits focus on relationship benefits that are formed by interactions among users. Provided that perceived usability affects mental or informational benefits according to involvement of SNS users, we will check how perceived usability or ease of use is connected to brand attitude.

Determinants of the adoption of new equipment at the individual level within an organization

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a new equipment acceptance model in the industrial market and test it empirically using a field survey. To define new equipment acceptance factors of employees in the organization, we used the TAM as a useful model to analyze the acceptance process of new equipment. All of the data for the TAM were collected from the employees. Prior research studied the usage of general information technology using a computer and particular software, while we apply the TAM to the new equipment adoption. In this study, both theoretical review and empirical study were conducted and the model was set through the theoretical study which was tested through the empirical analysis. Management support and training/education were shown to have a positive effect on PU and PEOU. Personal innovativeness, management support, perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use were shown to have a positive effect on behavioral intention.

Content-based Video Information Retrieval and Streaming System using Viewpoint Invariant Regions

  • This paper caters the need of acquiring the principal objects, characters, and scenes from a video in order to entertain the image based query. The movie frames are divided into frames with 2D representative images called "key frames". Various regions in a key frame are marked as key objects according to their textures and shapes. These key objects serve as a catalogue of regions to be searched and matched from rest of the movie, using viewpoint invariant regions calculation, providing the location, size, and orientation of all the objects occurring in the movie in the form of a set of structures collaborating as video profile. The profile provides information about occurrences of every single key object from every frame of the movie it exists in. This information can further ease streaming of objects over various network-based viewing qualities. Hence, the method provides an effective reduced profiling approach of automatic logging and viewing information through query by example (QBE) procedure, and deals with video streaming issues at the same time.

Factors Influencing the Intention to Continue Using the Metaverse: Focusing on the Influence of Social Norms

  • This study aims to examine factors influencing the intention to continue using the metaverse, focusing on the impact of social norms. Specifically, direct and indirect effects of technical characteristics (perceive quality, interactivity, perceived playfulness), user characteristics (self-efficacy, personal innovativeness), and social influence factors (descriptive norm, injunctive norm, subjective norm) on continuous use intention were examined. The role of perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness as a mediator was also examined. An online survey was conducted with 165 college students attending universities in two large cities in South Korea who had used the metaverse. As a result, perceived playfulness, descriptive norm, and perceived usefulness directly influenced continuous use intention. Perceived playfulness, interactivity, and subjective norm influenced continuous use intention indirectly through perceived usefulness. This study theoretically extends the Technology Acceptance Model by specifying social influence in metaverse contexts. Practical implications are provided in terms of marketing strategy for the metaverse industry to continue to grow and develop.
