  • Currently, a multi-core processor is mainly used as a central processing unit of a computer system, and a high-performance out-of-order processor is adopted as each core to maximize system performance. The early out-of-order execution processor with Tomasulo algorithm aimed at floating-point instructions, and it took several cycles to execute by the use of complex structures such as reorder buffer and reservation station. However, in order for the processor to properly utilize out-of-order execution and increase the throughput of instructions, it must operate in a fully pipelined manner. In this paper, a fully pipelined out-of-order processor with speculative execution is designed with VHDL and verified with GHDL. As a result of the simulation, a program composed of ARM instructions is successfully performed.

  • The electrocardiogram (ECG) signal is a good indicator for early diagnosis of heart abnormalities. The ECG signal has a different reference normal signal for each person. And it requires lots of data to diagnosis. In this paper, we propose an adaptive OpenCL-based FPGA-GPU hybrid-layer platform to efficiently accelerate ECG signal diagnosis. As a result of diagnosing 19870 number of ECG signals of MIT-BIH arrhythmia database on the platform, the FPGA accelerator takes 1.15s, that the execution time was reduced by 89.94% and the power consumption was reduced by 84.0% compared to the software execution. The GPU accelerator takes 1.87s, that the execution time was reduced by 83.56% and the power consumption was reduced by 62.3% compared to the software execution. Although the proposed FPGA-GPU hybrid platform has a slower diagnostic speed than the FPGA accelerator, it can operate a flexible algorithm according to the situation by using the GPU.

  • This paper proposes a fast face tracking method with only depth information. It is basically a template matching method, but it uses a early termination scheme and a sparse search scheme to reduce the execution time to solve the problem of a template matching method, large execution time. Also a refinement process with the neighboring pixels is incorporated to alleviate the tracking error. The depth change of the face being tracked is compensated by predicting the depth of the face and resizing the template. Also the search area is adjusted on the basis of the resized template. With home-made test sequences, the parameters to be used in face tracking are determined empirically. Then the proposed algorithm and the extracted parameters are applied to the other home-made test sequences and a MPEG multi-view test sequence. The experimental results showed that the average tracking error and the execution time for the home-made sequences by Kinect ($640{\times}480$) were about 3% and 2.45ms, while the MPEG test sequence ($1024{\times}768$) showed about 1% of tracking error and 7.46ms of execution time.

  • Now that fiscal soundness is increasingly important influenced by the euro area fiscal crisis, early budget execution has been under the spotlight as a tool for economy control, other than typical expansionary method, such as supplementary budget. Basically, early budget execution is a fiscal policy instrument that reponses to economic fluctuations through modifying the inter-temporal allocation of fiscal expenditure within budget, without affecting fiscal soundness. This study empirically examines how effective the intert-temporal reallocation of fiscal expenditure is in economy control. Using Korea's Consolidated Fiscal data, the size of inter-temporal reallocation of fiscal expenditure is defined as changes of fiscal expenditure for one year excluding seasonal factors and used to explain real economic growth rate, a dependent variable. The result shows that the macroeconomic effect of the inter-temporal reallocation turns out meaningful in general, though some policy time lag exists. Meanwhile, a simulation using macroeconomic model finds that overall effect on economic growth is not large because increase in fiscal expenditure allocation at a certain point of time is canceled by the opposite direction within the same fiscal year. However, the inter-temporal reallocation is found to reduce volatility of key macroeconomic variables so as to contribute to partially stabilizing macroeconomy. In particular, such effect of economic stabilization seems to be highly apparent at the time of financial crisis, but not very noticeable in normal economic cycle.

  • Through reinvestigations of early years of King Young-Joe provincial castles, Jeonju Eupsung, this study seeks to broaden the understanding of castle construction of the later period of Chosun Dynasty. Jeonju Eupsung was established by reform-minded king and his loyalist Cho, Hyun Myung. Their new conceptual framework for reconstruction of Jeonju Eupsung was affected by Yoo, Hyung Won, a realist scholar of 17th century. It is obvious that adopted new administrative systems of financing, building and maintaining of Jeonju Eupsung were based on the his theories of castle. This study demonstrates that Jeonju Eupsung built by Cho, Hyun Myung, during the early years of King Young-Joe were based on those new concepts and systems of the new age. The study shows that the designer of this castle had in mind efficient construction design and execution and effective defense of provincial towns located on flat ground. And, the study explains how those original designer sought higher productivity through greater localization of securing resources and more detailed and improved organization of construction responsibilities. In short, this study seeks to prove that the provincial castles of the early 18th century reflected the new thinking on practicality that was spreading throughout the society of Chosun Dynasty at the time.

  • Apoptosis may occur in early embryos where the execution of essential developmental events has failed, and gangliosides, sialic acid-conjugated glycosphingolipids, are proposed to regulate cell differentiation and growth. To evaluate the regulatory roles of ganglioside GM3 in early embryonic development, this study examined its expressional patterns in apoptotic cells during early embryonic development in mice. Pre-implanted embryos were obtained by in vitro fertilization, which were treated at the 4-cell stage with three the apoptosis inducers, actinomycin D, camptothecin and cycloheximide, for 15 h. All three inducers significantly increased the percentage of apoptotic cells, as measured using a TUNEL method, but remarkably reduced the total cell numbers. The numbers of morula and blastocyst stages were significantly decreased by treatment of the embryos with the three apoptosis inducers compared with the control, with a similar result also observed in the number of blastomeres. Staining of early embryos with Hoechst 33342 revealed a significant percentage of apoptotic nuclei. Prominent immunofluorescence microscopy revealed a significant difference in the ganglioside GM3 expression in apoptotic embryos compared with the control, and RT-PCR also demonstrated a dramatic increase in ganglioside GM3 synthase mRNA in the apoptotic embryos. These results suggest that ganglioside GM3 may be pathophysiologically implicated in the regulation of early embryonic development through an apoptotic mechanism.

  • In this study, the uncertainty requirements for orbit, attitude, and burn performance were estimated and analyzed for the execution of the $1^{st}$ lunar orbit insertion (LOI) maneuver of the Korea Pathfinder Lunar Orbiter (KPLO) mission. During the early design phase of the system, associate analysis is an essential design factor as the $1^{st}$ LOI maneuver is the largest burn that utilizes the onboard propulsion system; the success of the lunar capture is directly affected by the performance achieved. For the analysis, the spacecraft is assumed to have already approached the periselene with a hyperbolic arrival trajectory around the moon. In addition, diverse arrival conditions and mission constraints were considered, such as varying periselene approach velocity, altitude, and orbital period of the capture orbit after execution of the $1^{st}$ LOI maneuver. The current analysis assumed an impulsive LOI maneuver, and two-body equations of motion were adapted to simplify the problem for a preliminary analysis. Monte Carlo simulations were performed for the statistical analysis to analyze diverse uncertainties that might arise at the moment when the maneuver is executed. As a result, three major requirements were analyzed and estimated for the early design phase. First, the minimum requirements were estimated for the burn performance to be captured around the moon. Second, the requirements for orbit, attitude, and maneuver burn performances were simultaneously estimated and analyzed to maintain the $1^{st}$ elliptical orbit achieved around the moon within the specified orbital period. Finally, the dispersion requirements on the B-plane aiming at target points to meet the target insertion goal were analyzed and can be utilized as reference target guidelines for a mid-course correction (MCC) maneuver during the transfer. More detailed system requirements for the KPLO mission, particularly for the spacecraft bus itself and for the flight dynamics subsystem at the ground control center, are expected to be prepared and established based on the current results, including a contingency trajectory design plan.

  • From FGSC 159 strain of Aspergillus nidulans, temperature sensitive mutants that are defective in growth and differentiation have been isolated by N-methyl-N'-nitroN-nitrosoguanidine (NTG) treatment. The optimum concentration of NTG and incubation time to get the highest mutation frequency was $100{\mu}g$ per ml and 1 hour, respectively. The survival frequency was 1%. Among the isolated mutants, five strains that were affected in early steps of differentiation were selected for further studies and named smK, smY, smB, smF, and smZ. The execution point of each mutant was determined and the growing pattern of each mutant at the restrictive temperature was observed under the microscope. Growth of mutant was arrested near at the execution point. From genetic analysis, each temperature-sensitive mutants was thought to have a single recessive gene. The genes of smK, smY, smB, smF, and smZ are linked to the chromosome VII, IV, VIII, I, and VI, respectively. It can be concluded that the genes controlling the differentiation are widely dispersed in the genome. From the results of mutant, smK, it is considered that a single gene can affect a function (functions) which act(s) at two different steps during differentiation.
