The purpose of this paper is to suggest a model for an English learning web-site using Korean folktales to stimulate the interest of beginners learning English, (elementary and early middle school ages) and suggest an integrated way of teaching 4 skills. The study first reviews the theoretical and historical backgrounds of storytelling using Korean folk tale, WBI (Web Based Learning), and learner-centered learning. Storytelling using Korean folk tale is an interactive way of teaching English through the use of words and actions from Korean traditional culture. The students can take pride in their own culture while learning a foreign language since they are familiar with the stories and the culture. Nowadays multicultural education is one of the big features of global education. Therefore there are benefits of studying English through Korean folktales. The websites can help students learn English ubiquitously with a learner-centered focus. For the study, we analyzed several digital English storytelling websites. The paper concludes that digital English story books need to improve their interactive ways of teaching for more effective learning. The authors created an integrated English learning website model using Korean folktales for beginners. We hope to introduce this type of learning through the website for higher level students in middle school. Further study should be conducted in order to make the websites more meaningful and useful for Korean students learning English.

본 연구의 목적은 유아교육을 전공하는 학생들에게 영어로 유아수학교육 수업을 제공하는 과정에서 단계별로 교수자가 구성한 어려움과 의미를 알아보는 것이었다. 내러티브 탐색법을 활용하여 질적 연구를 실행하였으며, 관찰, 인터뷰, 학생들이 작성한 반성적 저널이 연구 자료로 수집되었다. 그 결과, 우선, 준비하는 단계에서 교수자는 원어민이 아니지만, 영어로 수업을 해야 한다는 압박과 영어로 수학교육내용을 어떻게 효과적으로 알려줄 수 있는 다양한 방법을 고려하였다. 수업 하는 단계에서 교수자는 학생들의 지속적인 동기 유발을 갖도록 하는 것과 교수자와 학생, 학생들 간 상호작용이 일어날 수 있는 기회를 마련하는 것을 중요하게 인식하였다. 평가 단계에서는 수업 준비와 실행 단계에서 부족했던 내용을 분석하는 것을 중요하게 인식하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 유아교육학과에서 영어로 전공 수업을 하는 상황에서 의미 있고, 적절한 교수학습 방법을 찾아보는 것에 기여를 할 것이라 사려된다.

With the rapid development of educational informatization, teaching methods become diversified characteristics, but a large number of information data restrict the evaluation on teaching subject and object in terms of the effect of English education. Therefore, this study adopts the concept of incremental learning and eigenvalue interval algorithm to improve the weighted decision tree, and builds an English education effect evaluation model based on association rules. According to the results, the average accuracy of information classification of the improved decision tree algorithm is 96.18%, the classification error rate can be as low as 0.02%, and the anti-fitting performance is good. The classification error rate between the improved decision tree algorithm and the original decision tree does not exceed 1%. The proposed educational evaluation method can effectively provide early warning of academic situation analysis, and improve the teachers' professional skills in an accelerated manner and perfect the education system.

Research has shown that mothers' attitudes towards early English language and literacy learning are important for children's English language development. Some researchers have indicated that in Taiwan most parents have a positive attitude towards English instruction and are motivated to teach English at home to their preschoolers. There is, however, little current data available to explain the motivations behind such parents' decisions to teach English to their child in the home before the commencement of formal schooling. We conducted a thematic analysis of the written survey responses of 263 Taiwanese mothers who explained why they taught their preschool children English at home. The findings indicate that English is highly valued for children's school readiness, future career opportunities, and because of its status as a global language. The mothers' motivations for teaching English include the desire to cultivate the child's interest, a belief in 'the earlier the better" for second language learning, and a belief in the need to review and practice English. These findings have the potential to inform educational policies and implementation strategies, as they can reveal whether mothers' motivations align with national priorities for English language education.

본 연구에서는 유아영어교육에 참여하고 있는 11명의 어머니들을 대상으로 자녀의 영어교육 경험과 인식을 심층 면담하였다. 이를 통해 자녀 영어교육 과정에서 어머니들이 어떠한 경험을 하며, 이러한 경험이 어떠한 의미로 해석되고 있는지 분석 해 봄으로써 유아영어교육에 참여하고 있는 부모들의 상황을 보다 깊이 있게 탐색하고자 하였다. 본 연구의 분석 결과를 제시하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 어머니들은 글로벌 시대에 영어는 필수라는 신념, 본인의 경험, 예정된 개인적 상황 등에 의해 자녀의 유아영어교육을 선택하여 실행하고 있었다. 또한 연구 참여자들은 학습효과를 체감할 수 있을 때 영어교육 효과를 긍정적으로 인지하였으며 이에 큰 의미부여를 하고 있었다. 둘째, 연구 참여자들은 영어교육 과정에서 자녀의 공부 스트레스, 높은 비용 부담 등의 어려움과 문제점 등을 경험하고 있었다. 셋째, 연구 참여자들은 유아기 자녀들의 발달에 적절한 영어교육을 위한 개인적, 사회적 차원의 방향성과 방법론 제시에 관한 바람을 가지고 있었다. 본 연구는 유아영어교육에 대한 어머니들의 실제적인 경험 및 바람에 관한 비판적 성찰 등을 드러냄으로써, 유아영어교육의 문제점 및 제한점에 대해 지속적으로 관심을 가지고 논의해야 할 필요성이 있음을 시사한다.

본 연구는 EAP 전문 코퍼스 구축과 분석을 통해 유아교육 전문 어휘 목록을 개발하는 것을 목적으로 하고 있다. 이를 위해 유아교육 전문가 2인과의 협의를 통해 선정된 7권의 유아교육 관련 영어 전공 서적을 기초로 50만 단어 수준의 전문 코퍼스를 구축하였다. 유아교육 전문 코퍼스의 어휘적 분포를 분석한 결과 기본 어휘에 해당하는 GSL[1]은 81.86%, 학술어휘에 해당하는 AWL[2]은 9.78%로 타 분야의 학술적 텍스트와 유사한 분포를 나타냈다. 한편 어휘의 다양성을 살펴보기 위해 TTR을 산출한 결과 3.18로 타 코퍼스의 결과와 비교할 때 낮은 수치, 즉 동일한 어휘의 반복이 비교적 많다는 특징을 보여 주었다. 다음으로 빈도와 출현 범위 등을 기준으로 유아교육 분야의 전문 어휘를 추출한 결과 총 224개의 어휘가 선정되었다. 이 어휘 목록은 영어로 유아교육을 가르치기 위한 목적으로 활용될 수 있을 것이며, 특히 영어로 쓰인 유아 교육 분야의 전공서적을 읽기 위한 기초 자료서로 유용성을 지닐 것으로 기대된다.

The core purpose of the study is to develop and validate an ADDIE model based instructional model for English Language Teaching (ELT) in early childhood classroom in Bangladesh as an aid to teachers to reconstruct their knowledge and experience more strategically, and for them to design and implement their instruction more structurally. This study is developmental in nature which has been divided in five phases as follows. Phase I: Existing methods and instructional strategy review, Phase II: Instructional model development, Phase III: Delphi 1st round, Phase IV: Delphi 2nd round and Phase V: Model validation. After reviewing relevant literature and existing strategy in phase I, the 1st version of instructional model is made phase II. Next in phase III and phase IV, two rounds of Delphi have been conducted where experts related to different concerning areas of this study reviewed the 1st version and gradually the final version of the instructional model is made. Finally, the instructional model for English teachers of early childhood classroom in Bangladesh got validated by the same Delphi panelists in Phase V. In respect with each phases of ADDIE, the instructional model elaborates the 1) representative key points, 2) instructors' activities prescribed for the instructors, 3) supporting strategies. Both the conceptual and procedural models are included in this study for clearer identification of the whole process. Lastly the study provides some recommendations for instructors and practitioners on choosing the instructional model like doing prior need analysis, incorporating teacher training programs, training students, keeping on researching for finding effective teaching technique and tools and being open to changes etc. In addition, the study also acknowledges its limitations like not being able to consider the psychological factors due to time limitation. Finally, at the end the study points out the areas that welcome further research.

글로벌 시대에 접어들면서 세계 공용어인 영어의 필요성이 끈임 없이 논의되는 현재 상황에서 정부는 1997년 영어를 초등학교의 정규교과로 채택하였으며, 현재에 이르러서는 영어전담교사는 물론 원어민 영어 강사까지 배치하는 정책 변화가 있어 왔다. 또한 영어교육은 학교에서 뿐만 아니라 사설 기관 및 정부차원의 영어 관련 교육기관들이 생겨나기 시작하였으며, 2000년대 들어서는 지자체에서 영어교육의 관심이 증대되는 상황에 놓이게 되었다. 그런 현상들을 반영하여 나타난 것이 대표적으로 영어마을 이라 하겠다. 서울 경기지방을 비롯하여 거의 모든 지방자치단체에서 각 지역에 맞는 영어마을을 직접운영하거나 민간업자에게 위탁 경영하고 있는 실정이다. 여러지방에서 이루어지고 있는 영어체험센터 및 영어마을들이 어떻게 운영되고 있는지 알아볼 필요가 있고 또한 영어체험 센터를 수료한 학생들의 성취도등을 선행연구로 조사해 보고자 한다. 연구 방법은 현재 운영중인 영어마을, 그리고 체험센터에서 실시하는 프로그램을 분석함으로써 그들의 효과를 알아보았다. 프로그램을 분석한 결과로 대부분의 영어마을 체험센터는 나름대로 소정의 목적을 달성하고 있었다. 여기서는 분석 자료로 사용한 서울과 경기 부산 영어마을 그리고 전라남도 영어체험 프로그램의 자세한 내용과 그것들의 개선방안을 제시하는데 본 연구의 목적이 있다 하겠다.

조기 영어교육이 필요한 것인지, 그리고 효과가 있는 것인지에 대해서는 2000년대 이후 많은 연구들이 실시되어 왔으나, 상당수 연구들은 통제집단의 부재, 관련변인 통제의 실패, 혹은 간이검사의 사용 등으로 인해 해석의 어려움이 존재했다. 본 연구는 8개월간의 영어학습 프로그램이 유아의 영어능력에 유의미한 효과를 미치는 지를 알아보기 위해 미국에서 공식 언어검사로 가장 많이 사용되고 있는 WIDA검사를 사용하여 개입집단과 통제집단의 영어능력치를 3회에 걸쳐 측정하였다. 또 영어학습이 본격화 되기 이전의 아동의 한국어 능력, 지능, 성격변인, 그리고 부모의 사회경제적 변인 및 영어교육에 대한 태도를 측정하고 이를 통제하여 영어학습만의 고유효과를 알아보고자 하였다. 3차 검사를 완료한 39명의 유아들의 영어능력을 분석한 결과, 개입집단은 수용언어 발달과 표현언어 발달에 있어 관련변인의 효과를 통제한 후에도 여전히 통제집단 유아에 비해 우수하였다. 하지만 이러한 효과는 영어검사의 정답문항 수에 근거하였을 때에만 유의미하였으며, 집단간 질적인 측면에서 유의미한 변화는 발견되지 않았다. 본 연구의 결과는 단순 노출교육이라 하더라도 조기영어교육은 최소한 단기간 효과가 있음을 시사한다.

The purpose of the present study was to develop a new English language model of an integrated syllabus for kindergarteners, in order to teach and learn English. An English syllabus is a tool for realizing the goals of a curriculum, in the planning of language teaching that is primarily concerned with content and method components. Thus appropriate syllabus design can play an important role on the whole effectiveness of early English education, because it presents selection and grading of content and method for English textbooks. The basic principle of the present syllabus is based on the national curriculum of kindergartens. Developing an English syllabus model for kindergarteners could suggest standards and directions for teaching and writing adequate English textbooks for kindergarteners. The syllabus model integrates competence in communication using a proportional approach and focussing on the characteristics of kindergarteners. This study presented an integrated English syllabus for kindergarteners at the ages of five, six, and seven.
