  • Subjects were 78 12- to 35- month old infants, their mothers, and their teachers. Instruments included the Revised Toddler Temperament Questionnaire(Y. H. Choi 1990) and the Assessment Profile for Early Childhood Programs(M. K. Hong 1997; S. K. Kim 1999). There was no significant difference in perceptions of infant temperament between mothers and teachers. Infant-mother interaction differed by infant temperament in that mothers had high scores with easy infants but low scores with difficult children. On the other hand teachers maintained high interactions with difficult infants in the case of infant's rhythmicity. Infant-teacher interaction correlated with such teacher variables as teacher-infant ratio, teachers' academic backgrounds and working hours.

  • Even though software (SW) education has not been considered part of the current national kindergarten curriculum, in practice there is growing interest in adopting it. Teachers would be expected to play a key role in the successful introduction and implementation of new educational changes, such as SW education. In preparation for its adoption in ECE, it would be useful to determine ECE teachers' perception and attitudes toward early childhood software education. For this study, 219 ECE teachers' level of concern toward SW education was surveyed using the Stages of Concern Questionnaire. It was found that the teachers' level of concern was the highest at stage 0-Unconcerned and that they had high levels of stage management, personal and informational concern. Thus, a non-user pattern was mostly indicated. However, compared to the typical non-user pattern, the pattern aspect close to critical non-user ever appeared to some extent. In addition, a significant difference in the level of concern was shown at all stages depending on the awareness of the necessity for SW education. The teachers with SW training experience showed a higher intensity only at stage 0. There was a statistically significant difference in stages 0 and 6 depending on the future implementation decision. These results will be utilized as a resource in building an ECE teachers' support system according to their level of concern about SW education.

We examined the perception of teachers and parents on the use of smartphone applications as educational materials and the factors affecting the intent to use such materials in infants and toddlers. Methods: Teachers and parents of children enrolled in educational institutions in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province, Korea, participated in this study for a one-month period starting from August 2018. Results: The intent to use a freely available smartphone application for oral health education in infants and toddlers was high for both parents and teachers at 81.7% and 78.4%, respectively. The intent to use increased 10.089-fold when a child had unrestricted access to mobile devices, and 4.435-fold when the execution path required modification; however, the ease of use was not compromised. Additionally, the intent to use also increased 2.488-fold when a child had used an educational oral healthcare material that is currently available, and by 2.431-fold and 2.219-fold when a child had previous experiences with an educational mobile application developed for infants and toddlers. Conclusions: Our findings showed that the teachers and parents had a positive perception towards the use of mobile applications for oral health care education in infants and toddlers. We recommend the development and promotion of mobile-based educational applications on oral health care, which are tailored to the needs and oral characteristics of infants and toddlers to help develop good oral care habits.

  • This study is focused on the factors that reduce the high turnover rate of early childhood teachers against the backdrop of their poor work environment including long hours, work overload and low wage by identifying the effects of three sub-factors of justice on the collectivistic tendency and those of the job burnout on their turnover intention. To conduct this study, a survey was carried out childcare teachers of the Seoul and Metropolitan Area. Total of 283 valid female questionnaires were collected and utilized for analysis. According to the analysis, both procedural justice and interpersonal justice have positive effects on the collectivistic tendency and decrease the turnover intention. The interpersonal justice decreases the job burnout, whereas the distributive justice statistically significantly increases the job burnout. Also, the collectivistic tendency reduces the turnover intention. The job burnout increases the turnover intention, which is consistent with previous studies. Hence, increasing the interpersonal justice and the collectivistic tendency could be an option for dealing with the issue.
