Background: EVA1A (eva-1 homolog A) is a novel gene that regulates programmed cell death through autophagy and apoptosis. Our objective was to investigate the expression profiles and potential role of EVA1A in normal and neoplastic human pancreatic tissues. Materials and Methods: The expression pattern of EVA1A in normal pancreatic tissue was examined by indirect immunofluorescence and confocal microscopy. Protein levels in paraffin-embedded specimens from normal and diseased pancreatic and matched non-tumor tissues were evaluated by immunohistochemistry. Results: EVA1A colocalized with glucagon but not with insulin, demonstrating production in islet alpha cells. Itwas strongly expressed in chronic pancreatitis, moderately or weakly expressed in the plasma membrane and cytoplasm in pancreatic acinar cell carcinoma, and absent in normal pancreatic acinar cells. Although the tissue architecture was deformed, EVA1A was absent in the alpha cells of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinomas, intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms, mucinous cystadenomas, solid papillary tumors and pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors. Conclusions: EVA1A protein is specifically expressed in islet alpha cells, suggesting it may play an important role in regulating alpha-cell function. The ectopic expression of EVA1A in pancreatic neoplasms may contribute to their pathogenesis and warrants further investigation.
Poly(ethylene-co-vinyl acetate) (EVA) is a copolymer of ethylene and vinyl acetate (VA). It is important to determine the VA content of EVA, since the properties of EVA depend highly on the VA content. EVA copolymers have been used in a wide range of applications appropriate for the different VA contents. IR, NMR, and TGA are generally used for determination of the VA content of EVA copolymers. Of these, TGA is the most reliable method and can be applied to cured EVAs. Analytical methods for determination of the VA content and properties of EVA copolymers via TGA were herein reviewed. Thermal behaviors of EVA copolymers (glass transition temperature ($T_g$), melting point ($T_m$), and crystallization temperature ($T_c$)) determined by DSC were also reviewed. Analysis of the related literature revealed that the $T_g$, $T_m$, and $T_c$ decrease by about 0.46, 1.36, and $2.08^{\circ}C$, respectively, for every 1 wt% in VA content. A method for determining the degree of crosslinking of cured EVA copolymers was also reviewed, and the degree of crosslinking tends to increase with the decrease in the VA content.
This paper explains the concept of Economic Value Added (EVA) that is gaining popularity in India. We also examine whether EVA is a superior performance measure, both for corporate disclosure and for internal governance. Of late, companies in India have started focusing on shareholders wealth creation by adopting value-based models for measuring shareholder value that helps to align managerial decision-making with the firm preferences. In recent years, the EVA framework is gradually replacing the 'traditional' measures of financial performance on account of its robustness and its immunity from 'creative' accounting. Even though some leading Indian companies have already joined the band wagon of their American counterparts in adapting the EVA-based corporate performance systems, many other are hesitating as there is no strong evidence that the EVA system works in India. Till now, EVA disclosures are "not mandatory for the Indian companies." Also, we examine the value-creation strategies of selected Indian companies by analyzing whether EVA better represents the market-value of these companies in comparison to conventional performance measures. The study indicates that "there is no strong evidence to support Stern Stewart's claim that EVA is superior to the traditional performance measures in its association with MVA." As part of this study, we have also extensively surveyed the EVA disclosures in the Annual Reports made by the same sample group of 500 corporations from India.
EVA foam was treated by oxygen plasma under a various treatment time for surface modification. The effect of plasma treatment on surface properties of EVA foam was investigated in terms of FT-IR ATR, XPS, contact angle, and SEM analysis and the adhesion characteristic of the EVA foam was studied in peel strength. As a results, EVA foam treated by plasma led to an elimination of organic compound, an increase of oxygen content, and an increase of surface roughness, resulting in improving the adhesion properties of the EVA foam. As the plasma treatment time increased, the hydrophilicity and physical change of surface of the EVA foam were increased and showed maximum value at 180 s and 420 s, respectively. The maximum adhesion strength appeared at plasma treatment time of 420 s and therefore, in this study the physical change was thought to be a major factor for improving the adhesion of the EVA foam.
Poly(ethylene-co-vinylacetate) (EVA) microspheres were prepared by a thermally induced phase separation. Poly(vinyl Alcohol) (EVAL) microsphere with Core-Shell Structure were synthesized by a saponification on sheath of EVA microspheres. The size of EVA core/EVAL shell microsphere was decreased from $4.09\mu{m}\;to\;2.55\mu{m}$ by partial saponification of $NaOH/Na_2SO_4$/methanol(2 : 1 : 1 by weight) at $60^\circ{C}$ for 4h to produce a saponified surface layer of about 60% of original radius. In this process, the surface layer of EVAL microsphere was dissolved partially and morphology of surface was not showed. Add-on of cotton and silk printed with EVA core/EVAL shell microsphere was increased and that of printed PET was decreased. In case of EVA core/EVAL shell microsphere, Hand of cotton and silk printed was flexible and fullness.
In this study, ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) and low density polyethylene (LDPE) composite films (EVA/LDPE-OSP) containing calcined oyster shell powder (OSP) were prepared using twin-screw extruder as an antimicrobial packaging material. The OSP composite was initially prepared and then incorporated into an EVA/LDPE blend at different ratios (0, 1, 3 and 5%) to develop the EVA/LDPE-OSP composite films. The as-prepared EVA/LDPE-OSP composites films were evaluated using FT-IR, DSC, TGA, OTR, WVTR, SEM and UTM as well as antimicrobial activity was examined using JIS Z 2801:2000 standard. OPS endowed the antimicrobial potency to the composite films against Gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus) and Gram-negative (Escherichia coli) bacteria. In addition, the incorporation of OSP remarkably enhanced the thermal stability. OSP as a natural biocidal agent can be used as a multifunctional additive in packaging industry such as improving the thermomechanical properties and preventing the microbial contamination of packaged products.
Simplification of the manufacturing process in shoe making is essential to improve productivity and reduce production costs. To improve the adhesion of EVA foam used as a midsole, EVA/itaconated EPDM(EPDM-g-IA)(80/20wt%) blend was prepared using Torque Rheometer-Plasti-Corder, and 1,6-hexamethylenediamine/crosslinking agent/foaming agent/additive were mixed, followed by amidation reaction and foaming to prepare EVA/EPDM-g-IA foam for shoe midsole. In this study, we investigate the effect of the content of 1,6-hexamethylenediamine(0, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, 3.0) on the mechanical properties, water-contact angle and adhesion of EVA/itaconated EPDM foam. As the content of 1,6-hexamethylenediamine increased, mechanical properties such as tensile strength, tear strength, tensile elastic modulus, hardness, and water-contact angle were lowered, but elongation at break and compression set(%) were increased. Both normal type and non-UV type adhesive strength increased with increasing diamine content. In particular, it was found that the adhesion strength of the non-UV type adhesion increased sharply with increasing diamine content. As a result, an adherend rupture occurs in a foam sample having a content of 1,6-hexamethylenediamine of 3phr. From this, it can be seen that the EVA/itaconated EPDM foam for shoe midsoles, which can be used for non-UV adhesion without primer and UV treatments, have been developed.
The present study aims to investigate the level difference of floor impact noises of composite floor structure using EVA resilient materials. In order to this, four different types of resilient materials were designed combining PET, PP sheet and EVA mount including Flat type, Deck type, Cavity type and Mount type. Totally 9 different samples were made for acoustic measurements which were carried out twice with bang-machine and impact ball as the heavy-weight floor impact noise sources. All the floor impact noise measurements were undertaken at the authentication institution. As a result, concerning Flat and Cavity types, it was found that 2 dB ~ 5 dB of heavy-weight floor impact noise was reduced supplementally when PET was added, while floor impact noise larger than 50 dB was acquired when single resilient material was used. Especially, most high performance was obtained for Mount type with 1st grade of light-weight floor impact noise and 2nd grade of heavy-weight floor impact noise. This is because of material property with low dense PET sound absorption materials which fill all around EVA mounts. Also, it was considered that this results are due to the sound impact absorption by the both EVA mounts and the air cavity between EVA mount and PP sheet. Also, it was found that at least 36 EVA mounts per 1m2 area of resilient panel make more noise reduction of heavy-weight floor impact noises.

This study is intended to analyze what trend the EVA technique recently actively studied shows according to the financial structure of the firm. As a result of analysis, it was found that the firm with the entire sum of its capitals depleted showed the negative value in both the EVA on the basis of operating profit and the EVA on the basis of cash flow from 5 years before its capitals were depleted. Especially, its EVA showed the negative value more strongly than the cash flow accruing by business activity. In analyzing the EVA of the firm with more than 1,500% of the debt to equity ratio, its EVA also showed the negative value from 5 years ago. But the firm with the good financial structure of the debt to equity of less than 35% showed the positive value in the EVA on the basis of its cash flow from 5 years ago. As can be seen from this result, the fact is that the firm can survive only when it raises its EVA through its structural change(re-engineering) and business innovation. Therefore, firms need to seek to turn their business philosophy or policy into the promotion of business innovation and business management emphasizing technology in order to improve their EVA indicators.
To estimate the effect of the surface state of the EVA foam on an adhesion, the surface was treated with solvents having different values of a solubility parameter and a surface tension. The morphology and the contact angle were measured by SEM and contact angle tester, respectively. The value of the critical surface tension(${\gamma}_{c,0}$) of the EVA foam calculated by Zismann plot was 27.08 dyne/cm. The surface state and the ${\gamma}_c$ of the EVA foam were changed by solvent treatment. The swelling ratio of EVA foam was influenced by solubility parameter of a solvent, on the other hand the degree of change in the surface state was dependent on a surface tension of a solvent. When a surface tension of solvent. When a surface tension of solvent is lower than ${\gamma}_{c,0}$ of the EVA foam, the wettability of a solvent was good and the surface state was greatly changed. The adhesion strength of EVA foam was greatly improved to above 600% as compared to that of the untreated one. As the ${\gamma}_c$ of EVA was closed to the surface tension of the primer, the good adhesion strength was obtained.
