1단 전기집진기에서 난류확산과 2차유동이 입자의 농도분포에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Turbulence Diffusion and Secondary Flows on the Particle Concentration Distribution in Single Stage ESP)

  • Numerical simulations for the effects of secondary flow and turbulence diffusion on the particle concentration distributions have been carried out for the single stage electrostatic precipitator. The electrohydrodynamic secondary flow, particle concentration distribution and collection efficiency have been evaluated as a function of dimensionless parameters such as Re, $N_{end}$, $P_{e}$ x. The results of simulations show that for increasing secondary flow intensity the concentration distribution is drastically deformed and collection efficiency is decreased which is more than due to turbulent diffusion.n.n.

  • This study compared the collection efficiency of a two-stage electrostatic precipitator (ESP) with a lightweight PET film-coated carbon electrode collector plate, depending on the relative humidity of the exhaust gas and the applied voltage to the pre-charger. It was confirmed that the onset voltage at which corona discharge occurs decreases and the discharge current decreases at the same voltage as the relative humidity increases. On the other hand, even though there was almost no change in the diameter of the particles generated depending on the relative humidity, the efficiency was higher at the same voltage as the relative humidity increased. In addition, by applying a two-stage ESP structure, the collection efficiency was higher than that of a single-stage electrostatic precipitator under the same conditions. The ESP using the carbon electrode coated with PET film used in this study is expected to be effective in various aspects such as weight and in the current situation where environmental regulations are rapidly tightening.

  • We developed non-metallic electrodes that can replace metallic electrodes of the electrostatic precipitator(ESP) for the purpose of light weight, corrosion resistance, cost reduction. We manufactured three types of collection electrodes made of stainless steel (M), Carbon ink coating layer-Plastic sheet-Carbon ink coating layer (CPC), and Plastic sheet-Carbon ink coating layer-Plastic sheet (PCP). We studied the collection efficiency of a two-stage ESP using oil mist particles with and without collection stage by changing the flow rate, the material of collection electrode, and the applied voltage of the pre-charger module and the collection module. Here we measured concentrations of particles at diameters of 0.45 ㎛ (CMD; count median diameter) and 3.0 ㎛ (MMD : mass median diameter), as well as PM2.5 and PM10. As a result of the experiment, two-stage ESP had 22~25% higher collection efficiency in PM2.5 than one-stage ESP at the same applied voltage. The difference in collection efficiency by varying the materials of collection electrodes was less than 5%. The weight of the non-metallic electrode was only one eighth the weight of the metal electrode. CPC electrode had a thickness of 0.27 mm, which was 1.5 times thinner than a thickness of PCP electrode, so when the flow rate increased, the CPC electrodes couldn't be kept at equal intervals due to the fluttering unlike PCP electrodes. In addition, the PCP-CPC collection module of the present experiment followed the theoretical efficiency based on Deutsch equation and Cochet's charging theory.

  • In this study, we propose a small high voltage power supply which use a half-bridge ZCS resonant and Cockroft-Walton on circuit, for ESP (Electrostatic Precipitator). This power supply transfers energy from ZCS resonant inverter to step-up transformer and the transformer secondary is applied to the Cockroft-Walton circuit for generating high voltage as discharging source of electrodes. It is highly efficient because its amount of switching losses are reduced by virtue of the current resonant half-bridge inverter, and also due to the small size, low parasitic capacitance in the transformer stage owing to the low number of winding turns of the step up transformer secondary combined with the Cockroft-Walton circuit. From these results, the best operational condition is obtained at the switching frequency of 9 kHz and the duty ratio of 50 % in this ESP.

공조용 박형 전기집진장치 개발에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Development of Thin ESP for High Efficient Air-conditioner)

  • In order to develop a thin type ESP(Electrostatic Precipitator) for high efficient air-conditioner with low concentration of ozone generation, collecting electrode spacing should be narrower than that from Deutsch formula and minimizes discharge current in ionizer. In this paper, the effect of applied voltage on the precipitation efficiency and ozone concentration of scroll type ESP was studied. As a result, precipitation efficiency(one pass) was improved by about 30[%] from increment of collector voltage(3.5[㎸]). Precipitation efficiency was increased with increasing ionizer voltage. And after some point, the efficiency was saturated. At the point, voltage and ionizer current was 5.2[㎸] and 95$[\muA]$ per meter respectively. At these applied voltage conditions, ozone concentration was saturated about 0.01[ppm] after 3 hours in 23$[m^3]$ closed room test.

  • DBD(Dielectric Barrier Discharge) plasma in air is well established for the production of large quantities of ozone and is more recently being applied to aftertreatment processes for HAPs(Hazardous Air Pollutants). Although DBD high electron density and energy, its potential use as nano and sub-micron sized particle charging are not well known. Aim of this work is to determine design and operating parameters of a two-stage ESP with DBD. DBD and ESP are used as particle charger and precipitator, respectively. We measured particle precipitation efficiency of two-stage ESP and estimated ozone decomposition of both pelletized $MnO_2$ catalyst and pelletized activated carbon. To examine the particle precipitation efficiency, nano and sub-micron sized particles were generated by a tube furnace and an atomizer. AC voltage of $7{\sim}10$ kV(rms) and 60 Hz is used as DBD plasma source. DC -8 kV is applied to the ESP for particle precipitation. The overall particle collection efficiency for the two-stage ESP with DBD is over 85 % under 0.64 m/s face velocity. Ozone decomposition efficiency with pelletized $MnO_2$ catalyst or pelletized activated carbon packed bed is over 90 % when the face velocity is under 0.4 m/s in dry air.

입자의 형상에 따른 열영동 영향에 대한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on Thermophoretic Particle Deposition for an Agglomerated and Non-Agglomerated Particles)

  • Agglomerated and non-agglomerated SiO$_2$ particles are synthesized in a furnace by oxidation of TEOS vapor. These polydispersed particles are classified with DMA to extract particles. Then these particles are introduced into a thermal precipitator through the ESP(Electrostatic Precipitator) to investigate the themophoretic particle deposition using CNCs(Condensation Nuclei Counter). The efficiency of themophoretic particle deposition according to agglomerated and non-agglomerated particles in the thermal precipitator has been studied as a function of particle size and TEOS mole concentration using monodisperse particles classified by DMA. The results show that the particle deposition efficiency decreases as TEOS mole concentration increases and particle size increases. Thereffre, it is concluded that the thermophoretic deposition efficiency is dependent of the particle morphology.

Effects of Electrohydrodynamic Flow and Turbulent Diffusion on Collection Efficiency of an Electrostatic Precipitator with Cavity Walls

  • The effects of the electrohydrodynamic (EHD) flow and turbulent diffusion on the collection efficiency of a model ESP composed of the plates with a cavity were studied through numerical computation. The electric field and ion space charge density were calculated by the Poisson equation of the electrical potential and the current continuity equation. The EHD flow field was solved by the continuity and momentum equations of the gas phase including the electrical body force induced by the movement of ions under the electric field. The RNG $k-{\varepsilon}$ model was used to analyze the turbulent flow. The particle concentration distribution was calculated from the convective diffusion equation of the particle phase. As the ion space charge increased, the particulate collection efficiency increased because the electrical potential increased over the entire domain in the ESP. The collection efficiency decreased and then increased, i.e. had a minimum value, as the EHD circulating flow became stronger when the electrical migration velocity of the charged particle was low. However, the collection efficiency decreased with the stronger EHD flow when the electrical migration of the particle was higher relatively. The collection efficiency of the model ESP increased as the turbulent diffusivity of the particle increased when the electrical migration velocity of the particle was low. However, the collection efficiency decreased for increasing the turbulent diffusivity when the electrical migration of the particle was higher relatively.

생물성연소에서 발생하는 미세먼지의 장치별 집진 특성: 고기구이를 중심으로 (Collection Characteristics of Particulate Matters from Biomass Burning by Control Devices: Mainly Commercial Meat Cooking)

  • The aim of this study is to understand the characteristics of exhausting particulate matters (PM) and to control emitted PM from meat cooking restaurants. We found that $PM_{2.5}$, $PM_{5.0}$ occupy 69.2% and 98.6% of total PM from pork cooking, respectively. Therefore, we can see that it is not easy to remove PM generated from a pork cooking process. The collection efficiencies of various control devices, which are a condensing scrubber, a cyclone, an impactor, an oil filter and an electrostatic precipitator (ESP), were measured and compared. ESP had the highest collection efficiency (88.6%) and condensing scrubber had the lowest one (68.0%). However, the system recovering property should be considered to choose a control device because PM from meat cooking process are extremely stickiness. Therefore, we can recommend that ESP following an impactor or a cyclone is the best combination to remove PM generated from meat cooking restaurants.

트리에틸아민 첨가에 따른 열병합발전소 전기집진장치의 집진효율 특성의 현장 평가 (Field Evaluation of Particulate Control Efficiency of Electrostatic Precipitator in Thermoelectric Power Plant Associated with Addition of Triethyl Amino(TEA))

  • 본 연구의 목적은 실제 가동 장치에 연결된 전기집진장치의 제거효율을 향상시키기 위하여 주입되는 트리에틸아민 주입 조건에 대한 실제 장치의 효능을 평가하는 것이다. 국내 발전소에서는 주로 호주, 중국, 남아프리카 및 미국에서 수입되는 비스무스 석탄을 이용하는데 비록 이러한 수입 석탄의 종류에 따라 발생되는 비산재의 전기저항도값이 다소 차이가 있지만, 석탄 연소시 배출되는 비산재의 대표적인 전기저항도값은 $1{\times}10^{12}\;{\Omega}-cm$ 큰 것으로 나타났다. 이 때문에 국내 대부분의 적기집진기 가동시 백 코로나 문제가 빈번하게 나타난 것으로 확인되었다. 전기집진장치 출구에서 직접 측정된 분진의 농도, 매연도 및 분진의 전기저항도와 집진효율을 동시에 확인한 결과에 따르면, 트리메틸아민의 주입이 전기집진장치의 집진효율을 상당량 증가시키는 것으로 확인되었다. 트리에틸아민 주입 전에 비산재의 전기저항도값이 $1.9{\times}10^{12}\;{\Omega}-cm$이던 것이 15 ppm(순도 99.7%) 주입시 비산재의 전기저항도값이 $2.1{\times}10^{11}\;{\Omega}-cm$으로 감소하였다. 이러한 조건에서 연돌에서 배출되는 분진의 배출량은 대략 80% 정도 감소율을 나타내며 농도 대비 $70\;mg/Sm^3$ to $14\;mg/Sm^3$수준이었다.
