  • [ $SiO_2$ ]thin films containing Si-nanocrystals and $Er^{3+}$ were fabricated by the RF-sputtering method. Intense emission of $Er^{3+}$ was observed at 1530 nm region after the annealing of the film at $1050^{circ}C$ for 5 min. Channel waveguides were fabricated using such films for the core. The films containing Si higher than 2.4 at% exhibited the change in stress from compression to tension after annealing, which induced the fatal loss-increase in waveguide. The optical gain might be attained by the Er-doped waveguide with Si lower than 2.4 at% by a visible-light-excitation.

  • Electro-Rheological(ER) fluids change their apparent viscosity according to the electric field strength. Therefore, there are many practical applications using the ER fluids. ER effect on the dispersive system of polarizable fine powder/dielectric oil has been investigated. The electrical and rheological properties of starch based ER fluid were reported. Yield stress of the fluids were measured on the couette cell type rheometer as a function of electric fields, particle concetrations, and temperatures. The electric field is applied by high voltage DC power supply, The outer cup is connected to positive electrode(+) and the bob becomes ground(-). And the temperatures the viscosity(or shear stress) versus shear rates were measured. In this experiment shear rates were increased from 0 to 200s$^{-1}$ in 2 minutes. This thesis presents Bingham properties of ER fluids subjected to temperature variations. The temperature dependence of the viscosity was determined for ER fluids consisting of 35 weight % starch particles in automatic transmission oil.

  • In this research, the fabrication of Si/SiO$_2$optical waveguide amplifier by FHD(Flame Hydrolysis Deposition) and Solution Doping was carried out. It was observed that the reduction of fluorescence was prevented up to 0.14 wt% Er whn 0.48 wt% Al was doped and the FWHA of $1.5mutextrm{m}$ fluorescence band increased by 5 nm as increasing amount of Al. Therefore from these results, we could confirm depressing concentration quenching of Er ions and increasing FWHM of fluorescence spectrum by addition of Al.

  • High quality of $Er_{2}O_{3}$ doped $LiNbO_{3}$ single crystal thin films were grown by the liquid phase epitaxial (LPE) method using $Er_{2}O_{3}$ doped at concentrations of 1,3, and 5 mol% respectively. After the growth of single crystal thin film, the crystallinity and the lattice mismatch along the c-axis between the film and the substrate was examined as a function of the variations of{{{{{Er}_{2}{O}_{3}}}}} dopant concentration using a X-ray double crystal technique. There was no lattice mismatch along the c-axis for the undoped film and those doped with 1 and 3 mol% of $Er_{2}O_{3}$. For 5 mol% of $Er_{2}O_{3}$ doped film, the lattice mismatch was $7.86{\times}10^{-4}$nm along the c-axis.

  • Among various mechanisms for ER phenomena, the electrostatic polarization and conduction models were known as the most promising theoretical models. However, many inherited defects have limited their uses for the development of effective ER fluids. To resolve these problems, extended Maxwell-Wagner polarization model with Onsager theory was developed. It was observed that the extended model resolved the problems, suggesting that the extended model can be used for the development of effect ER fluids.

  • Genistein is a potent, plant-derived isoflavone that displays estrogenic activity at low concentrations but inhibits proliferation at high amounts. However, the molecular mechanism of genistein is not completely understood. In the present study, the biphasic effects (estrogenic and antiestrogenic activity) of genistein on the growth of MCF-7 cells were identified. Genistein within a low range of concentration, $1-10\;{\mu}M$, stimulated proliferation, while $50-100\;{\mu}M$ caused apoptotic cell death. Additionally, genistein at a low concentration induced estrogen receptor (ER)-mediated gene expression and ER phosphorylation. When pre-treated with PD98059, an MEK inhibitor, ER-mediated gene expression and ER phosphorylation by genistein were noticeably increased. However, the increased gene expression and phosphorylation did not enhance cell proliferation. Moreover, it was observed that ER-mediated signaling performs an important role in the MAPK pathway. The proliferation and apoptosis in genistein-treated MCF-7 cells were partially dependent on the Bcl-2 level. The addition of IC1 182, 780, an estrogen receptor antagonist, inhibited Bcl-2 expression induced by genistein. This study suggests that there is a close relationship between Bcl-2 and the ER signaling pathways in MCF-7 cells.

  • Data modeling is a process of developing a model to design and develop a data system that supports an organization's various business processes. A conceptual data model represents a technology-independent specification of structure of data to be stored within a database. The model aims to provide richer expressiveness and incorporate a set of semantics to (a) support the design, control, and integrity parts of the data stored in data management structures and (b) coordinate the viewing of connections and ideas on a database. The described structure of the data is often represented in an entity–relationship (ER) model, which was one of the first data-modeling techniques and is likely to continue to be a popular way of characterizing entity classes, attributes, and relationships. This paper attempts to examine the basic ER modeling notions in order to analyze the concepts to which they refer as well as ways to represent them. In such a mission, we apply a new modeling methodology (thinging machine; TM) to ER in terms of its fundamental building constructs, representation entities, relationships, and attributes. The goal of this venture is to further the understanding of data models and enrich their semantics. Three specific contributions to modeling in this context are incorporated: (a) using the TM model's five generic actions to inject processing in the ER structure; (b) relating the single ontological element of TM modeling (i.e., a thing/machine or thimac) to ER entities and relationships; and (c) proposing a high-level integrated, extended ER model that includes structural and time-oriented notions (e.g., events or behavior).

  • In this study, functionalized poplar powder (FPP) was used as a support material for the immobilization of enoate reductase (ER) and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (GDH) by covalent binding. Under optimal conditions, the immobilization efficiency of ER-FPP and GDH-FPP was 95.1% and 84.7%, and the activity recovery of ER and GDH was 47.5% and 37.8%, respectively. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) analysis indicated that FPP was a suitable carrier for enzyme immobilization. ER-FPP and GDH-FPP exhibit excellent thermal stabilities and superior reusability. Especially, ER-FPP and GDH-FPP enable the continuous conversion of 4-(4-Methoxyphenyl)-3-buten-2-one with $NAD^+$ recycling. While the immobilization strategies established here were simple and inexpensive, they exploited a new method for the immobilization and application of ER and its cofactor recycling system.

  • Objective: We report on the administration progression and adverse event of Er-Xian decoction for menopausal hot flushes. A hot flush is a rapid and intense heat-dissipation reaction that involves considerable sweating, enlargement of the peripheral blood vessels, and internal body heat. Er-Xian decoction is a prescription for treating menopausal hot flush symptoms in postmenopausal women. We report administration progression and adverse event of Er-Xian decoction for menopausal hot flush. Methods: We used the Menopause Rating Scale and Menopause-Specific Quality of Life questionnaire to evaluate the progression of hot flushes, and we conducted a literature review to determine the effective dosage of Er-Xian decoction. Result: In all cases, Facial hot flushes and evaluation variables were improved by the administration of EXD. However, in Case 1, a rise of liver function indexes which may be related to EXD administration was observed. Conclusion: Considering that menopausal flushing usually lasts for several years, The resluts are meaningful that the short-term administration of EXD led to improvement of symptoms. In order to further use EXD in the future, it will be necessary to conduct follow-up studies on the subject of safety verification, such as repeated dose toxicity studies.
