Performance Evaluation of Road Stripe Removing Equipment Using High Pressure Water-Jet (워터젯을 이용한 노면표시 제거장비의 성능평가에 관한 연구)

  • Current removing process is labor intensive and time consuming, employing a conventional grinding type manual machine. From a social and economic point of views, these kinds of manual tasks bring about social inconvenience and economic loss including traffic jam and high labor costs. The objective of the study was to develop and evaluate a road stripe removal equipment using water jet technology. The following shows the results. First, It was analyzed that the obtainable productivity from the equipment developed in the study is 280% compared to the current equipment. In this study, it was also calculated the Benefit/Cost Ratio and the result showed that the ratio is 3.28, so it is expected that the equipment can produce great benefits for the relevant companies. Second, an analysis was also conducted on the traffic congestion cost, and the equipment could save about \2,550 million per day compared to the conventional equipment. Therefore, it is analyzed that the economic viability of the equipment is sufficient.

An Investigation of ECDIS Type Approval based on International Standard (국제기준에 의한 ECDIS 인증방안 고찰)

  • Electronic navigation system onboard have have been developed with recent technology based on new concept such as electronic chart date. The most valuable system of revolution in electronic navigation equipment is ECDIS, which have been developed in order to reduce work load of mariner and give an integrated information by simple means, especially to improve the safety of ship's navigation. In order to be sure the function of ECDIS is satisfied, The international standard have regulated the performance in the standard, so ECDIS should be type approved by the marine equipment authority of each government. There are three basic documents, IEC61174, IEC61162, IEC60945 issued by IMO(International Maritime Organization) which should be used for type approval system of each authority. IEC 61174 include the method of test and required results for operational and functional performance of test equipment. IEC61162 is for sensor interface and IEC60945 is related to the test of environmental condition for general marine radiocommunication equipment. In this paper, we investigate international standard in detail and current approval system of general marine equipment. After that, we present the possible structure of type approval of ECDIS and important considerations of approval system such that ECDIS should be tested as one system not be separated between S/W and H/W.

  • The Advanced Spent Fuel Conditioning Process (ACP), which is a pre-disposal treatment process for spent fuel is being developed at the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI). The ACP equipment is operated in an intense radiation field as well as in a high temperature. Thus, the equipment is designed in consideration of the remote handling and maintenance. This paper describes a Bridge Transported Bilateral Force-Reflecting Servo-Manipulator (BTSM) system, which is being developed to overcome the limitation of access that is a drawback of the mechanical Master-Slave Manipulators (MSMs), which are mounted on the ACP hot cell wall for the operation and the maintenance of the ACP equipment. The BTSM system was manufactured and temporally installed at the mockup to test its performance. The manufactured BTSM system will be installed at the ACP hot cell on June 2005 after the accomplishment of the performance test. The BTSM system consists of four components: a transporter with a telescoping tubeset, a slave manipulator, a master manipulator, and a remote control system. This system will highly increase the volume of coverage for the operation and maintenance of the ACP equipment.

A Study on Improving Extinguishing Capacity of Mobile Water Mist Equipment (이동식 미분무수 소화장비의 소화능력 향상에 관한 연구)

  • This research has so far found out problems including the second damage of extinguishant and the short time of emission when using the existing dry chemical extinguisher and gas type extinguisher, and impossibility of constant extinguishing due to the inability of recharge at the field. To solve such problems, a mobile water mist system was developed and used. However, it is judged that more improved mobile water mist system is necessary because the force of the fire changed diversely and remote villages in mountains or islands where the force of fire extinguishing is short or delayed, require high capacity of fire extinguishing. Therefore a new equipment was developed and tested focusing on the improvement of extinguishing capacity and the performance of extinguishing was found out to be improved, compared to the existing mobile water mist system. It also showed a superior extinguishing capacity to dry chemical extinguisher or gas type extinguisher. Afterward an additional research is required of simplification of equipment, price cutting and the development of additive to enable high performance even with just small extinguishant.

  • Medical laser equipment using optical energy is used to surgery and treat diseases by destroying and removing tissue. Domestic laser equipment has been used steadily in the skin and cosmetics sectors and has been changed to radiate high-power energy in a wide range to shorten patient treatment time. However, side effects such as burns and damage of normal tissues occurred. To solve this problem, techniques for detecting lesions using an imaging device and selectively radiating the laser have been developed. In this study, we proposed an evaluation method to evaluate the safety and performance of target detection accuracy, laser irradiation accuracy and motion protection device technology derived from product analysis and investigation. Finally, the validity of the evaluation method was evaluated by evaluating the imaging device based laser equipment as the proposed evaluation method.

  • Cooling technology has been a vital prerequisite for the rapid, if not explosive, growth of the electronic equipment industry. This has been especially true during the last 20 years with the advent of intergrated circuit chips and their applications in computers and related electronic products. The purpose of this study is to develop a telecommunication equipment cooling system using a thermoelectric module combined with cooling fan. Thermoelectric module is a device that can perform cooling only by input of electric power. In the present study, the cooling package using the thermoeletric module has been developed to improve the thermal performance. The cooling characteristics of the electronic chip was placed into the subrack and it can be rapidly assembled or disassembled in the equipment rack. As a preliminary experiment, the cooling performances between a conventional way using a cooling fin and a proposed method applying the thermoelectric module was comosed and analyzyed. The cooling performance at a simulated electronic component packaging a thermomodule operated well.

  • A novel methodology to evaluate remote dismantling equipment for a reactor pressure vessel (RPV) in a decommissioning project is presented in this paper. The remote dismantling equipment, mainly composed of cutting tools and positioning equipment, is absolutely required to cut and handle highly radioactive and large components in nuclear power plants (NPPs); this equipment has a great effect on the overall success of the decommissioning project. Conventional evaluation methods have only focused on cutting technologies or positioning equipment, although remote dismantling equipment cannot achieve its goal without organic interaction between the cutting tools and the positioning equipment. In this paper, the cutting tools and the positioning equipment are evaluated by performance parameters according to their original characteristics, the relationship between the two systems, and common factors. Finally, the remote dismantling equipment used in recent decommissioning projects has been evaluated based on the proposed methodology. The results of this paper are expected to be useful for future decommissioning projects.

  • Because National Fire Safety Codes is mixed performance criteria and specification, and it defines the fire extinguish equipment type and standards that need to be installed in a building as one method. Therefore, to fully reflect the fire risk characteristics of the building, such as the wooden building there is a limit. In this study, suggested to the performance criteria drawn methodologies through fire load of wooden buildings studies, theory on performance and performance analysis to fire extinguish equipment of the wooden buildings is installed according to current fire safety codes.

  • This study aims at newly constructing and evaluating performance of the stevedoring equipment systems in terminals. The stevedoring equipments used in conventional terminals are insufficient in flexibility in their functions or design structure, and most of the stevedoring systems based on such equipments have conventional design, therefore, limited in improving the productivity of terminals both in performance and functionality. The stevedoring equipment systems in terminals, in general, can be subdivided into 4 subsystems of quay, transportation, yard, and gate system, which carry out loading and unloading works with proper facilities and equipments. In this study, a design of next generation stevedoring equipment system comprised of various stevedoring equipments which have superior performance and functionalities to the conventional equipments was proposed, and its performance was evaluated.

  • Earthwork is an essential initial work discipline in construction projects and open to significant impacts of several factors such as weather, site conditions, soil conditions, underground installations and available construction machinery, calling for careful planning by managers. However, selection and combination of construction machinery and equipment for earthwork still depends on experience or intuition of managers in construction sites, with much room left for proper management in terms of cost, schedule and environmental load control. This research aims to analyze the performance of earthwork equipment and establish relations among various factors affecting a model for optimizing selection and combination of earthwork equipment as a precursor to the development of such model. We expect the conclusions herein to contribute to optimizing selection and combination of earthwork equipment and provide basic inputs for the development of applicable model that can save costs, reduce schedule and mitigate environmental load.
