PSCAD/EMTDC Based Modeling of a Grid-Connected Photovoltaic Generation System (PSCAD/EMTDC를 이용한 계통연계형 태양광발전시스템의 모델링)

  • The paper proposes a simulation model of grid-connected photovoltaic generation system (PV system) using on PSCAD/EMTDC, a reliable power system and apparatus transient analysis program. A equivalent circuit model of a solar cell is used for modeling solar array. A series of parameters required for array modeling are deduced from general specification data of a solar module. A PWM voltage source inverter (VSI) model is presented and current control scheme is implemented for VSI control. A maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technique is applied for controlling the PV system. Simulation case study provides V-I and V-P characteristics of solar array and PV system control performance for irradiation changes.

  • In this paper, the generator control system by using PSCAD/EMTDC was modeled and several faults simulation were performed. The generator control system is composed of generator, turbine, exciter and governor. The parameters of generator control system model were obtained from field power plant. And then, the various transient phenomena through obtained several signal of developed modeling were analyzed.

  • The modelling of PEMFC(Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell) has been studied in many kinds of methods. But there are some limitations in application of the developed models to analysis transient phenomena of power systems. The PSCAD/EMTDC is very popular simulation tool in power system areas. To analysis power systems interconnected to PEMFCs, the PSCAD/EMTDC model of the PEMFCs is needed. In this paper, we developed a PSCAD/EMTDC model of PEMFC based on electro-chemical characteristic equations of PEMFC. Also, we performed simulations using the developed model in the PSCAD/EMTDC program and tested appropriateness of the proposed the models. The simulations showed good results.

  • In recent years, with the continuous development of modem power system, the need for high performance protection to meet the customers' requests for more stable and reliable power supply has become increasingly emphasized. So, there is urgent need for a proper testing platform about not only existing digital protection relay but also new digital protection relay on the transmission line. It is also dynamic-state test which can test the performance of digital relay. This paper suggests basic system model for testing transmission line protection using PSCAD/EMTDC, and presents the process of the component modeling in the basic system.

  • In this paper, we present basic modeling of Juju power system using PSCAD/EMTDC. In detail, models of bipolar HVDC system, power transmission line, basic thermal power plant, load, and wind farm have been developed for Jeju power system. For evaluating basic dynamic behavior, we tested the system with a simple scenario and the test result showed acceptable response.

  • This paper presents an effective modeling and simulation scheme of solar-powered hydrogen production system (PV-SPE: Photovoltaic Solid Polymer Electrolyte). Existing Hydrogen production technologies can produce vast amounts of hydrogen from hydrocarbons but emit large amounts of carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere. Advanced hydrogen production methods need development. Renewable technologies such as solar and wind need further development for hydrogen production to be more cost-competitive from other resources. In this paper, authors have focused on a renewable technology to move one step further toward commercial readiness of solar-powered hydrogen production system. Software (PSCAD/EMTDC) based model of PV-SPE system is studied for an effective simulation of hydrogen production system. Using the simulation results, an actual PV-SPE system is implemented to verify the simulation results by comparing them with actual values obtained from the data acquisition system.

  • The paper presents an electrical model of a grid-connected wind energy conversion system (WECS) with a variable speed drive, a fixed pitch angle, a synchronous generator as a wind generator and AC-DC-AC conversion scheme for simulating dynamic behaviors and performance responding to varying wind speed input. The electric output of the WECS is controlled by the AC-DC-AC conversion scheme, the objective of which is to capture the maximum active power under varying wind conditions and to keep the voltage of WECS terminal bus at a specific level. Aerodynamic models are used to incorporate the power characteristics to wind speed. The modeling and simulation of the WECS are realized on PSCAD/EMTDC environment.

  • This paper deals with HVDC simulation. And the purpose of this paper is to reproduce measurements recorded at HVDC site and to verify the control gains and control actions. In this paper, the target of simulation study is Cheju-Haenam HVDC system. Because Cheju-Haenam HVDC system include analogue controller and digital controller, the detailed digital model considered nonlinear characteristics of analogue controllers is development for high accurate firing and control action. Finally the simulation results which is simulated by PSCAD/EMTDC is compared with measurement signals.

  • This paper presents exact autotransformer-fed AC electric railroad system modeling using constant current mode, and single-phase STATCOM(Static Synchronous Compensator) which has an effect on electric railroad system. An AC electric railroad is rapidly changing single-phase feeding electric power. To avoid voltage fluctuation under single phase loads, electric power should be received from a large source. The system modeling theory is based on the solution of algebraic. The AC electric railroad load model is nonlinear. Therefore this paper is considered nonlinear load using PSCAD/EMTDC. And the proposed modeling method is considered the line self-impedances and mutual-impedances that techniques for the AC electric railroad system modeling analysis, and that single-phase STATCOM can reliably compensate the voltage drop. In the case study, the allowance range of feeding voltage is 22.5∼27.5 kV, AT-fed AC electric railroad system circuit is analyzed by loop equation both normal and extension modes. The simulation objectives are to calculate the catenary and rail voltages with respect to ground, as the train moves along a section of line between two adjacent ATs. The results show that single-phase STATCOM can reduce the voltage drop in the feeding circuit and improve the power quality at AC electric railroad system by compensating the reactive power.

A Study on the Modeling Method of Performance Evaluation System for MW Scaled Energy Storage System Using the PSCAD/EMTDC (PSCAD/EMTDC를 이용한 MW급 ESS용 성능평가설비 모델링 방안에 관한 연구)

  • The energy storage system(ESS) is a core component for exchanging the power system structure of the unidirectional power flow into a bidirectional structure. Its important role has been increasing because it has multiple functions such as output stabilization of new renewable energy, demand management, frequency regulation, etc. However, the performance evaluation technology of ESS in korea is lower than one of advanced countries and the recognition of standardization is also lack compared to advanced countries. Furthermore, in order to more accurately and reliably validate the performance of the ESS in advanced countries, it has been required to perform not only performance testing by H/W devices but also performance verification by S/W tool. Therefore, in order to verify the performance testing of ESS by S/W tool, this paper proposes the modeling method of performance testing devices for MW scaled ESS by using the PSCAD/EMTDC S/W, based on real testing devices in domestic institute. From the simulation results of proposed modeling method, it is confirmed that the proposed modeling method is a useful tool for performance validation of ESS.
