EMI reduction of PWM converter By Binary Switching Frequency Modulation (2진 스위칭 주파수 변조에 의한 PWM 컨버터의 EMI 저감)

  • To satisfy the demand for small size, light weight. high density power supply, the switching frequency of DC/DC converters has been increased. The PWM control of the conventional SMPS have a switching frequency that a level of the conducted noise spectra contribute to switching frequency band. So the electronic equipment is not only affected from that but is restricted to internal regulation like CISPR, FCC, and VDE. In this paper, we analyzed Bi-FM. Bi-FM is two fixed switching frequency with a modulation frequency. So emission spectrum of Bi-FM control signal is spreaded and spectral power level is reduced. In this paper, we analyze the spectral analysis of Bi-FM control signal and the spectral comparison between the PWM control and Bi-FM control. And we confirm that reduced the spectrum power level through simulation using Pspice and experiment.

  • CISPR(Committee Internationale Special des Perturbations Radio Electriques) has proposed limits on the noises emitting from power lines and signal lines. But different measurement environment and different measurement methods are used in different countries. This difference causes much confusion in understanding the results measured by different test laboratories. In this paper, we measure EMI noise using the absorbing clamp method that takes short measurement time and is described in CISPR 13, 14-1, 16-2. We analyze the cause of the difference of measurement results.

  • For passive power factor correction, the valley fill circuit approach is attractive for low power applications because of low cost, high efficiency, and simple circuit design. However, to vouch for the product quality, two dc-link capacitors in the valley fill circuit should be selected to withstand the peak rectified ac input voltage. The common mode (CM) and differential mode (DM) choke should be used to suppress the electromagnetic interference (EMI) noise, thereby resulting in large size volume product. This paper presents the practical design and implementation of a valley fill flyback converter with reduced dc link capacitors and EMI magnetic volumes. By using the proposed over voltage protection circuit, dc-link capacitors in the valley fill circuit can be selected to withstand half the peak rectified ac input voltage, and the proposed CM/DM choke can be successfully adopted. The proposed circuit effectiveness is shown by simulation and experimentally verified by a 78W prototype.

  • Rapid developments in the field of electronic communication have given people's daily life much more convenience and abundance. However, making precise electrical and electronic devices and control systems lighter, smaller, and faster have caused lots of problems such as interference of external electric source, malfunction brought by electric fast transient(EFT), and influence on human body. In this research, the EMC filter in the high powered breaker was designed and fabricated as a countermeasure. The filter attenuated noise more than 30 ~ 75 dB in the range of 10 MHz ~ 1.5 GHz. And, when the EFT of 4 kV in the level 4 of IEC 61000-4-4 was induced, it was soon suppressed to 600 V.

  • In this study, the dynamic characteristic of a contact wire and pantograph suppling electrical power to high-speed trains are investigated from an electrical response point of view. To analysis power line disturbance by induced contact loss phenomenon for high speed operation, a hardware Simulator which considered contact loss between contact wire and the pantograph as well as contact wire deviation is developed. It is confirmed that a contact wire and pantograph model are necessary for studying the dynamic behavior of the pantograph system. One of the most important needs accompanied by increasing the speed of high-speed train is reduced that an arc phenomenon by loss of contact brings out EMI. In case of a high-speed train using electrical power, as comparison with diesel rolling stock, PLD(Power Line Disturbance) such as harmonic, transient voltage and current, EMI, dummy signal injection etc usually occurs. Throughout experiment, it is verified that an arc phenomenon is brought out for simulator operation and consequently conducted noise is flowed in electric circuit by power line disturbance.

  • In high-speed train, the EMI is generated by pantograph detachment and switching device of motor-block. Especially, the conductive noise flows through rail as return feeder influences unintended results to sub-station, transformer, etc. These phenomena were investigated by PSIM circuit analysis tool and each part of railway system is modeled by circuit elements and switching devices. Consequently, the distorted wave in return feeder current occurs by the high speed switching frequency, and the overvoltage is applied by the pantograph detachment. Also the distortion of return current is high in starting point and it decreases from the proximity of a starting point ro the end of terminal.

  • The conducted noises mainly emitted from PWM DC power supply have a periodicity with respect to switching frequency, and especially center at the switching frequency and the discrete harmonic frequencies. The concentration of noise energy at these discrete frequencies makes it harder to meet EMI regulations. To reduce the conducted noises, this paper presents the novel FM-PWM control method by using random switching frequency modulation control. This control makes it to generate the noises of side bands by shattering emission spectrum, and to reduce the peak level of conducted noises.

  • 무기체계 개발에서 개발장비의 내구성은 개발자가 고려해야될 가장 중요한 항목 중에 하나이다. 그러나 이런 개념이 꼭 무기체계 개발에만 국한된다고 생각되지는 않는다. 실제로 여러 선진국에서는 자동차나 항공기 그리고 인공위성에 탑재되는 거의 모든 장비를 환경시험을 통하여 엄격하게 관리하고 있는 것이 사실이고, 우리 기업들 역시 진동을 비롯하여 온도, 충격, EMI/EMC등 환경시험분야에 많은 관심을 기울이고 있기 때문에 이런 환경시험수준 결정절차나 과정 그리고 결과를 나름대로 파악하는 일은 매우 중요하다고 판단된다. 여러 환경시험 중에서도 진동시험은 가장 보편적이고 오래된 것으로 진동시험을 합리적으로 수행하기 위해서는 무엇보다도 합리적이고 타당한 진동시험수준 결정이 필요하다. 미 군사규격도 Sinusoidal이나 Swept Sine에서 Random Vibration 시험까지 여러 종류의 시험에서 각각에 맞는 시험 방법을 제시하고 있으나 이를 뒷받침하는 이론적 설명은 부족한 편이다. 이런 상황에서 프랑스가 환경시험, 특히 진동 시험에 많은 연구를 하고 있어서 이번에 국방과학연구소가 프랑스의 Thomson-CSF사와 함께 일하면서 배우고 나름대로 연구한 것을 앞장에 언급하였다. 세부적인 내용이 많이 포함되지는 못했지만 가능하면 여러 분야에서 이런 작업이나 연구에 관하여 많은 관심을 가져 주기를 바란다.

  • There were overwhelming high-frequency electromagnetic noises in 200kW-class hybrid electric vehicle(HEV) although EMC control strategy had been applied to cope with the electromagnetic noises during the development of HEV. This paper investigates the characteristics of the conducted and radiated emission noises, the source and path of noises, and the effects of EMI on the electronics. Finally the design concept of noise control is proposed.

  • In the conventional PWM converter, high-frequency switching techniques was used for high-density of energy, but occurred a lot of problems such as switching losses, switching voltage/current stresses, EMI(Electromgnetic Interference) and so on. To overcome these problems, various soft switching techniques have been presented. However these techniques are focused on reducing switching losses and voltage/current stresses . The simulation and experimental results are shown that the active clamp ZVS flyback converter with the proposed RPWM(Random Pulse Width Modulation) technique reduces the conducted noise.
