  • GC/MS analysis of 27 controlled pesticides in herbal drugs was studied. Selected ion monitoring(sim) technique was applied to increase the GC/MS sensitivity. Typical peaks in th e mass spectrum of each pesticides were selected as quantitation, comfirmation or alternate ion. Twenty seven pesticides were divided into five groups according to their retention time and the peaks for SIM were programmed accordingly. The combination of two ionization methods, electron impact(EI)-SIM-MS and negative ion chemical ionization(NCI)-SIM-MS, were well-fitted for the detection, confirmation and quantitation of multiclass residual pesticides in herbal drugs.

  • The active compound responsible fer the anti-oxidant activity in Chinese cabbage kimchi were isolated and identified. The dichloromethane fraction of Chinese cabbage kimchi with the greatest anti-oxidant activity was used. Silica gel column chromatography, Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography, TLC, and Sep-pak catridge were used for isolating the active compounds and IR, EI-MS, GC-MS, $^{1}H-NMR$, $^{13}C-NMR$ were used to identify the structure of the isolated compounds. 3-(4'-Hydroxyl-3',5'-dimethoxyphenyl)propionic acid of molecular weight 226, which had 3.4 times greater free radical scavenging activity than Vit. C and significantly greater anti-oxidant activity against LDL oxidation than the control, was obtained, This active principle may be beneficial in preventing hyperlipidemia and artherosclerosis in human.

  • This study was conducted to assess the allelopathic potentiality of Korea traditional seventy-nine rice (Oryza sativa L.) cultivars on barnyardgrass (Echinochloa crus-galli P. Beauv. var. oryzicola Ohwi) and to identify possible allelopathic compounds from selected rice cultivars, such as Seogandodobyeo, Huadobyeo and Heugbalbyeo. In the straw mixture, Seogandodobyeo showed the greatest inhibition (67.07%) on total emergence percentage. The greatest inhibition on total seedling length and dry weight of barnyardgrass occurred in Huadobyeo (58.32 %) and Heugbalbyeo (81.20%), respectively. An HPLC analysis with nine standard compounds showed that the concentrations and compositions of allelopathic compound depend upon the cultivars. Four compounds including Ο-coumaric acid in Seogandodobyeo extracts, four compounds including p-coumaric acid in Huadobyeo extracts, and seven compounds including Ο-coumaric acid in Heugbalbyeo were detected, respectively. Ο-coumaric acid (0.97 mg/g) in Seogandodobyeo, p-coumaric acid (0.92mg/g) in Huadobyeo and Ο-coumaric acid (1.02 mg/g) in Heugbalbyeo was detected as the highest amounts, respectively. The preliminary identification by HPLC analysis resulted in peaks with retention times close to those of standards which were confirmed with EI/MS. The mass spectra of p-coumaric, and Ο-coumaric acids showed molecular ions (m/z) at 164 and 164, and their base peaks (m/z) at 164 and 118, respectively.

  • Methanol extract obtained from aerial parts of Vitis vinifero L. was successively fractionated with n-hexane, ethylacetate, n-butanol, and water. From ethylacetate fraction, an active compound was isolated through silica gel column chromatography and recrystallization, and was identified as Lup-20(29)-ene-3,28-diol on the basis of EI-MS data. The compound, at 100 mg $mL^{-1}$, inhibited the mycelial growth of Phytophthora capsici and Colletotrichum acutatum by 52.1 % and 40.8%, respectively.

  • Anabolic-androgenic steroids (AAS) are used illegally to enhance muscle development and increase strength and power. In this study, a reliable, and sensitive quantitative method was developed and validated using heptafluorobutyric acid anhydride (HFPA) derivatives for the simultaneous detection of prohibited AAS (testosterone [TS], boldenone [BD], 5α-estrane-3β,17α-diol [EAD]) using gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (GC-MS/MS). For processing the samples, solid phase extraction, methanolic hydrolysis, and liquid-liquid extraction were used. For detection using mass spectrometry, the multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) mode was used with the electron ionization (EI) positive mode. The method was evaluated for selectivity, linearity, lower limit of quantification, intra- and inter-day precision, accuracy, and stability. The results showed that the method was accurate and reproducible for the quantitation of the three steroids. The developed method was finally applied to the analysis of a suspect gelding urine sample received from the Asian Quality Assurance Program (AQAP).

  • This study aims to investigate the effect of changes in the Sub ROI on exposure index(EI) and to present indicators of changes in EI values that may occur when changing Sub ROI in clinical practice. This study was conducted on a subject of 20 cm of acrylic for a setting similar to abdominal radiography, and the specifications of one acrylic sheet is 20 × 20 × 5 cm. The survey conditions were the same as 80 kVp , 320 mA, 25 ms, SID 110 cm and the Sub ROI obtained 30 images for each type using five types provided by the equipment company. The EI value provided by the equipment and entrance skin exposure(ESE) were compared and analyzed. The mean value of EI according to the change in Sub ROI was 101.18±0.27 for LS, 106.57±0.31 for AEC, 107.74±0.39 for VR, 107.90±0.38 for HR, and 109.72±0.32 for SS (p<0.01). The average value of ESE by sub ROI type (LS, AEC, VR, HR, SS) was measured to be 476.45±1.71 μGy, 476.92±1.48 μGy, 476.14±2.30 μGy, 475.61±1.96 μGy, and 477.14±1.46 μGy, with statistically significant differences (p<0.01). As a result of this study, the EI according to the sub ROI type is based on LS(109.72), which represents the minimum value. AEC increased 5.3%, VR increased 6.4%, HR increased 6.6%, SS increased 8.4%, and overall, increased by about 5.3%. As for the average value of ESE, HR(475.61 μGy)type showed the minimum value, and based on this, AEC increased 0.27%, VR increased 0.11%, LS increased 0.17%, SS increased 0.32%, and overall, increased by about 0.17%.
