Characteristics of Chemical Species in $PM_{205}$ during the Winter in Kangwha (강화도 지역에서 겨울철 $PM_{205}$의 화학적 성분 특성)

  • Chemical compositions of air pollutants with fine particles (<2.5 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, PB2.5) were evaluated at background site. Kangwha. in Korea during the winter season. The data set was obtained for seventeed days with 24-hour sampling from December 11 to 16, 1996 and from January 9 to 1997. The chemical species have been measured {{{{ {SO }`_{4 } ^{2- } }}}}, {{{{ { NO}`_{3 } ^{- } }}}}, {{{{ { NH}`_{4 } ^{+ } }}}}. OC and EC in the particulate phase, NH3 HNO3, HCl and SO2 in the gas phase using the three stage filter pack method. Mean concentration ($\mu\textrm{g}$/m3) of this study were : 35.42 for PM2.5 8.78 for organic carbon (OC) 7.25 for nss {{{{ {SO }`_{4 } ^{2- } }}}}, 4.94 for {{{{ { NO}`_{3 } ^{- } }}}}, 3.58 for {{{{ { NH}`_{4 } ^{+ } }}}} and 1.48 for elemental carbon (EC) respectively. Contributive rates of major particulate components in PM2.5 were OC (25%) nss- {{{{ {SO }`_{4 } ^{2- } }}}}(20%) ,{{{{ { NO}`_{3 } ^{- } }}}}(14%) {{{{ { NH}`_{4 } ^{+ } }}}}(10%) and EC (4%) respectively and these components could be accounted for 73% of PM2.5 mass. Reactive forms of {{{{ { NH}`_{4 } ^{+ } }}}} were considered as NH4HO3 and NH4{{{{ {SO }`_{4 } ^{2- } }}}} during the sampling periods. {{{{ { NO}`_{3 } ^{- } }}}}/({{{{ { NO}`_{3 } ^{- } }}}} + HNO3) and {{{{ {SO }`_{4 } ^{2- } }}}}/({{{{ {SO }`_{4 } ^{2- } }}}} + SO2) were calculated 0.8 and 0.9 respectively. Most of these compounds might be formed in partiiculate phase in the air. Correlation coefficient between OC and EC was 0.866 which might have the same sources during the sampling periods,.

  • This paper explains the design and implementation of the EC_NH. EC_NH is a system that is suitable for detecting, sharing and recovering software error based on multimedia CSCW(Computer Supportes Cooperated Work). With error sharing system, a group cooperating users can share error applications. From the perspective of multimedia collaborative environment, an error application becomes another interactive presentation error is shared with participants engaged in a cooperative work. Our Digital Carousel enables user to share media objects through media synchronization mechanism. We implemented the Digital Carousel so that the users participated in collaborative work may refer shared media or error objects as the same view to others.

Evaluation of Slurry, Urine and Fermented Liquid Manure at Pig Farms in the Jeju Area Regarding Chemical Composition and Pollution Level (제주지역 양돈장에서 생산된 액비의 비료성분 및 오염도 평가)

  • Pig slurry, urine and fermented liquid manure were evaluated measuring electrical conductivity (EC), dry matter (DM) contents and other components. Samples were collected during a period from February to April, 2001: slurry samples from 70 storage tanks, urine samples from 19 and 20 fermented liquid manure samples from 109 pig farms in Jeju. Samples were analyzed for pH, EC, DM, $NH_4$-N, K, P, Ca, Mg, Na, BOD, S-S, Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb, Zn and OM. Relationships between EC or DM and various mineral and $NH_4$-N contents were examined using linear regression. EC, DM, all mineral contents and $NH_4$-N were higher in slurry samples than in urine or fermented liquid manure. EC, $NH_4$-N, Ca, Mg and Na concentration was similar in urine and fermented liquid manure, but K and DM values in liquid manure were twice as much as in urine. P concentration was higher in urine than in liquid manure. $NH_4$-N and Na in slurry, $NH_4$-N in urine and $NH_4$-N, P and Ca in fermented liquid manure were highly correlated with EC, while $NH_4$-N, P, Ca and Mg in slurry, $NH_4$-N and Ca in urine, and K, P, Ca, Mg, and Na in fermented liquid manure with DM (P<0.05). BOO in slurry (22,520 mg/mL) was higher than that in urine (4,763) and fermented liquid manure (2,701). Results indicated that slurry is a better fertilizer source than urine or fermented liquid manure. However, slurry may pollute soil more than urine or fermented liquid manure when applied to land, although the levels are not above the permit.

Determination of Nutrient Contents of Liquid Pig Manure and the Correlation of Components as Fertilizer in Western JeJu Area (제주 서부지역 양돈장에서 생산된 돈분액비의 비료성분과 그 성분간 상관관계)

  • This study was conducted to make a rapid and easy determination for the fertility of liquid pig manure as fertilizer by investigating the contents, and correlation coefficients of various nutrients. Samples were collected from 118 local pig farms in the western area of Jeju in Korea. Electrical conductivity(EC), dry matter(DM), $NH_4-N$ and minerals were determined and the relationships among them were examined. The collected liquid manure samples from 118 pig farms were classified according to the level of DM contents ;< 3% (92 farms), $3{\sim}6%$ (18 farms), $6{\sim}9%$ (5 farms) and>9% (3 farms), based on the collected data, most of the liquid manure coming from the local pig farms contain small amount of dry matter. The dry matter contents appeared highly correlated(p<0.01) with EC, $NH_4-N$, T-P, Ca, Mg and Na, except for K. In addition EC was proportional to $NH_4-N$, T-P, Ca, and Na except fer Mg. The fertilizer component ratio of $NH_4-N$, P and K in liquid pig manure were not constant, resulting in low efficiency for fertilizer. However, the toxic heavy metals of Cu etc. were below the criteria of organic fertilizer and soil contamination evaluation. Therefore, we concluded that both dry matter content and electrical conductivity could be used as an indicator for evaluating the fertility of liquid pig manure.

Effects of Different Nitrogen Solution Varying Concentration on Seed Germination of Vegetable Crops(Brassica rapa L., Lactuca sativa L.) (농도(濃度)가 다른 여러가지 질소원(窒素源) 양분용액(養分溶液)이 배추와 상치 종자발아(種子發芽)에 미치는 영향(影響))

  • For testing salts effect on seed germination, nitrogen solutions($(NH_4)_2SO_4$, $NH_4NO_3$, $KNO_3$, $Mg(NO_3)_2$, $Ca(NO_3)_2$, $(NH_2)_2CO$) were treated to chinese cabbage(Brassica rape L.) and lettuce(Lactuca sativa L.) seeding on the quartz sand bed given a tilt to wet by dripping. Electrical conductivities (mS/cm) increased with direct proportion by equivalent gram-molecular weight at $(NH_4)_2SO_4$ and $KNO_3$, $NH_4NO_3$, but those of Mg and Ca salt remained 1 1/2 times higher. And urea solution never showed EC at all. $(NH_4)_2SO_4$ solution appeared to have value of EC with 1.37 times as high as that of $KNO_3$ and it was in order of $(NH_4)_2SO_4>NH_4NO_3>KNO_3>Ca(NO_3)_2>Mg(NO_3)_2$ comparing with same percentage solution. Application of $Mg(NO_3)_2$ and $(NH_4)_2SO_4$ among 6 salts resulted in a severe decreas in germination of both crops, and $NH_4NO_3$ showed light inhibition in comparison to $KNO_3$. Urea showed little effect on germination as the same as $Ca(NO_3)_2$ and $KNO_3$ solution at low concentrations, but the latter two salts reduced germination remarkably at high concentrations. It is likely to show that germination inhibition is not affected by salt salanity but by the sort of salts.

Growth of 'Nokkwang' Hot Pepper Plug Seedlings as Influenced by Various Ratios of Pre-planting NH4+:NO3- in Root Substrate (상토에 기비로 혼합된 NH4+:NO3- 비율에 따른 '녹광' 고추 플러그 묘의 생장)

  • This study was conducted to determine the effects of a pre-planting fertilizers with various $NH_4{^+}:NO_3{^-}$ ratios in a coir dust:peatmoss:perlite (3.5:3.5:3.0, v/v/v) medium on the growth of hot pepper (Capsicum annuum L. cv. Nokkwang) plug seedling. Nitrogen levels were fixed to $300mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ and the $NH_4{^+}:NO_3{^-}$ ratios were varied to 0:100, 27:73, 50:50, 73:27, and 100:0. The 50-cell trays were filled with treatment media containing pre-plant fertilizers, then seeds were sown. After seeds were germinated, the trays were moved to greenhouse and seedlings were feed with 13-2-13 and 20-9-20 fertilizers, alternatively. The changes in pH and EC were measured every week and soil solution for nutrient concentrations were analyzed in week 0, 3, and 7. The measurements of seedling growths as well as analysis of tissue nutrient contents were also conducted in week 7. The varied $NH_4{^+}:NO_3{^-}$ ratios did not influence on the pHs of root media after incorporation of pre-planting fertilizers, but the ECs were heightened as proportion of $NH_4{^+}$ to $NO_3{^-}$ were elevated. During the raising of seedlings, the pHs rose over time in the treatments of 0:100 and 27:73 ($NH_4{^+}:NO_3{^-}$). The concentrations of all macro-elements in root media decreased gradually as seedlings grew in all treatments. The seedling growths 7 weeks after seed sowing were the highest in the treatments of 27:73 and 50:50 ($NH_4{^+}:NO_3{^-}$) and those became worse in the treatments of higher $NH_4{^+}$ ratios than 73%. In terms of inorganic element contents based on the dry weight of above ground tissue, the treatment of 0:100 showed the lowest content of Ca, Mg, Na, Cu, Mn, and Zn. Based on the results, it is desired that $NH_4{^+}$ ratio in pre-planting fertilization is maintained to be 50% or less for the raising of hot pepper plug seedlings.

Comparison of Physico-Chemical Properties of Organic Liquid Fertilizer Containing Fish Meal According to Manufacture Method (어분을 이용한 유기 액비 제조 시 제조방법에 따른 액비의 특성 비교)

  • The objective of this study was to investigate characteristics of inorganic components contained in liquid fertilizer produced using fish meal under different condition. Addition of dry yeast to liquid fertilizer resulted in considerable change in pH and electrical conductivity(EC) value compared to other liquid fertilizers which have microorganisms additives. In addition, it was appeared that the dry yeast-added treatment had higher $NH_4-N$ concentration than other treatments. Addition of molasses resulted in low pH compared to the control which has no additives. The EC, concentration $NH_4-N$ and $P_2O_5$ were not significant difference according to addition of molasses. The pH and $NH_4-N$ concentration in liquid fertilizer containing 20% of fish meal was highest after fermentation process, and EC value increased as the content of fish meal increase. When Cucumber was cultivated using liquid fertilizer, there was no difference in growth between fish meal liquid fertilizer treatment and chemical fertilizers treatment. However, there was a difference in yield according to the supply amount of nitrogen during the growing season.

Ammonia and Hydrogen Sulfide Removal from Swine House Exhaust Air Using a Dip Injection Wet Scrubber

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the odor reduction efficacy of the dip injection wet scrubber (DIWS) using tap water as washing fluid. The $NH_3$ and $H_2S$ removal efficiency of 7 day batch operated DIWS was evaluated twice over a total of 14 days of experiment. The $NH_3$ removal efficiency ranged from 26 to 37%. The $H_2S$ removal efficiency was between 22 and 30%. The pH of the washing fluid maintained below 8 and the $NH_4{^+}$ concentration tended to keep constant around 350 ppm after 5 days of washing-fluid replacement. Therefore, the 5-day washing fluid replacement interval is more preferable than the 7-day interval. The $NH_4{^+}$ concentration and the electrical conductivity (EC) showed a high correlation. The EC measurement can be used as an alternative to conventional $NH_4{^+}$ concentration measurement method for real time monitoring of washing fluid condition.

Ground Water Pollution Status of Agricultural Water Source of Greenhouse Area in Gyeongnam (경남 시설원예지 농업용 지하수의 수질 현황)

  • To examine water pollution status of agricultural water source of greenhouse area in Gyeongnam, the ground water quality was investigated six times at five areas in Gyeongnam from October in 1995 to March in 1996. pH of ground water were generally in the range of 5.9∼7.6. But a site in Changnyeong area was out of the range In 6.0∼8.5 which is water quality standard for agriculture. COD of ground water was below 2.8mg/l. NH4+-N contents in ground water was very low in all areas and the average of NO3'-N contents in Changnyeong and Chinju area was high with 13.2 and 11.5mg/l respectively. Hardness, SO42- and EC of ground water In Hmm were higher than any other area. Fe and Mn contents of ground water in Kimhae were higher than any other area with 7.17 and 0.95wt, respectively. Heavy metals such as Cu, Cd, Pb and Zn of ground waker were below water Quality standard far agriculture but some sites were over. Between COD and SS in ground water were not correlated with rInG.338,'but between COD and NH4+, -N were positively correlated. And EC was positively correlated with Ca2+, Mg2+ and SO42-. Ground water pollution status of agricultural water source of greenhouse area in Gyeongnam was genrrally high in order of Sacheon < Chinju < Hmn < Kimhae < Changnyeong.

Impact of Pre-planting NO3:NH4 Ratios in Root Media on the Growth of Tomato Plug Seedlings (혼합상토에 기비로 혼합된 NO3:NH4 비율이 토마토 플러그 묘 생장에 미치는 영향)

  • This research was conducted to investigate the influence of various pre-planting $NO_3:NH_4$ ratios in the coir dust+peatmoss+perlite (3.5:3.5:3, v/v/v) medium on the growth of tomato plug seedlings (cv. Dotaerang Dia), changes in chemical properties of root media, and tissue nutrient contents. With the fixation of N concentration to $300mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$, the $NO_3:NH_4$ ratios were adjusted to 100:0, 73:27, 50:50, 27:73, 0:100. Then, root media containing various $NO_3:NH_4$ ratios and equal concentration of other essential nutrients were filled into 50-cell plug trays and the seeds of 'Dotaerang Die' tomato were sown. The investigation of seedling growth and tissue analysis for mineral nutrient contents based on the dry weight of above-ground tissue were conducted 6 weeks after sowing. As seedlings grew, the EC decreased quickly and pH increased gradually in the all treatment media. The plant height, fresh weight and dry weight of seedlings in the treatment of 50:50 ($NO_3:NH_4$) were 29.0 cm, 13.7 g, and 1.21 g, respectively, which were the highest among treatments tested. However, the seedlings in the treatment of 0:100 ($NO_3:NH_4$) had 26.5 cm, 11.2 g, and 0.92 g in plant height, fresh weight and dry weight, respectively. These were the poorest among the treatments tested. The tissue contents of N were 2.77 to 3.22% in all the treatments. The treatment of 27:73 ($NO_3:NH_4$) had the highest contents of Fe, Mn and Zn and that of 0:100 ($NO_3:NH_4$) had the lowest contents of Mg, Na, Cu, Mn and Zn among the treatments tested. The results indicate that $NH_4$ ratio should be lower than 50% in the coir dust+peatmoss+perlite (3.5:3.5:3, v/v/v) medium for seedling growth of tomato and the optimum ratio will be used to draw up guide lines for plug seedling production.
