  • A high voltage stabilization system for the SNU 1.5MV Tandem Van do Graaff accelerator was set up and its operational characteristics were examined and optimized. The optimum parameters of beam transport system were experimentally determined, and under the proper condition the accelerated proton beam current of 350nA was obtained at the target chamber. Without the high voltage stabilization the observed magnitude of voltage fluctuation was $\Delta$V/ V=5.2$\times$10$^{-3}$ without ion beam and 7.2$\times$10$^{-3}$ with ion beam, respectively, and its apparent ripple frequency for voltage fluctuations was about 3Hz or less. Through the optimized operation of the high voltage stabilization system, the terminal voltage fluctuation was reduced to $\Delta$V/V=2.45$\times$10$^{-4}$ and the energy stability with $\Delta$E/E=2.44$\times$10$^{-4}$ was steadily maintained at the 247.3kV terminal voltage, and the stabilization factor was deduced to be 29.4.

  • The relation between the phase-shift profile fur the intermediate frequencies and the Langmuir adsorption isotherm at the poly-Ir/0.1 M $H_2SO_4$ aqueous electrolyte interface has been studied using ac impedance measurements, i.e., the phase-shift methods. The simplified interfacial equivalent circuit consists of the serial connection of the electrolyte resistance $(R_s)$, the faradaic resistance $(R_F)$, and the equivalent circuit element $(C_P)$ of the adsorption pseudoca-pacitance $(C_\phi)$. The comparison of the change rates of the $\Delta(-\phi)/{\Delta}E\;and\;\Delta{\theta}/{\Delta}E$ are represented. The delayed phase shift $(\phi)$ depends on both the cathode potential (E) and frequency (f), and is given by $\phi=tan^{-1}[1/2{\pi}f(R_s+R_F)C_P]$. The phase-shift profile $(-\phi\;vs.\;E)$ for the intermediate frequency (ca. 1 Hz) can be used as an experimental method to determine the Langmuir adsorption isotherm $(\theta\;vs.\;E)$. The equilibrium constant (K) for H adsorption and the standard free energy $({\Delta}G_{ads})$ of H adsorption at the poly-Ir/0.1 M $H_2SO_4$ electrolyte interface are $2.0\times10^{-4}$ and 21.1kJ/mol, respectively. The H adsorption is attributed to the over-potentially deposited hydrogen (OPD H).

  • Hydrogenated amorphous silicon carbide (a-SiC:H) films have been deposited on unheated substrates by low frequency (50Hz) plasma using $SiH_4+CH_4+H_2$ gas mixtures. Deposition rate, refractive index, optical band gap, Vickers hardness and IR spectrum of the deposited a -SiC:H films have been measured for various rations of gas flow rates k(=$CH_4/SiH_4$, 0.5k4) with a constant $H_2$ flow rate (100sccm). As k increases, the deposition rate of the a-SiC:H films increases up to the maximum value of about 220nm/h at k=2.5, and then it decreases. The refractive index of the films was 2.6 for k=2.5, while the optical band gap of the films was 3.3eV for k=2.2. The maximum value of Vickers hardness of the films was 1500Hv at k=1. The infrared transmission measurement shows that the films contain both Si-C and Si-$CH_3$ bonds.

  • The magnetostrictive characteristics of three different forms of magnetostrictive transducers made of 2605SC and 2826MB metallic glasses were measured. In both cases, the two-end-point bonding configuration exhibited the best characteristics. With the two-end-point bonding we measured the effective magnetostrictive coefficient $C_{eff}$ of $1.2{\times}^{-5}Oe^{-2}$, the saturation magnetostriction ${\lambda}_s$ of $7.4{\times}10^{-4}$ and the minimum detectable magnetic field $H_{min}$ of $1.6{\times}10^{-7}Oe$/ √Hz for the 2605SC metallic glass ribbon. Also for the 2826MB metallic glass ribbon, Ceff and ${\lambda}_s$ were $7.6{\times}10^{-6}Oe^{-2}$ and $3.4{\times}10^{-4}$ respectively.

  • The relation between the phase-shift profile for the intermediate frequencies and the Langmuir adsorption isotherm at the poly-$Pt/0.1\;M\;H_2SO_4$ aqueous electrolyte interface has been studied using ac impedance measurements, i.e., the phase-shift methods. The suggested interfacial equivalent circuit consists of the serial connection of the electrolyte resistance ($R_S$), the faradaic resistance $(R_F)$ and the equivalent circuit element $(C_P)$ of the adsorption pseudocapacitance $(C_\varphi)$. The delayed phase shift $(\varphi)$ depends on both the cathode potential (E) and frequency (f), and is given by $\varphi=-tan^{-1}[1/2{\pi}f(R_s+R_F)C_p]$. The phase-shift profile $(\varphi\;vs.\;E)$ for the intermediate frequency (ca. 6Hz) can be used as an experimental method to determine the Langmuir adsorption isotherm (9 vs. E). The equilibrium constant (K) for H adsorption and the standard free energy $({\Delta}G_{ads})$ of H adsorption at the poly-$Pt/0.1\;M\;H_2SO_4$ electrolyte interface are $1.8\times10^{-4}\;and\;21.4kJ/mol$, respectively. The H adsorption is attributed to the over-potentially deposited hydrogen (OPD H).

  • Hydrogenated amorphous carbon films were fabricated by low frequency(60Hz) Plasma enhanced Chemical vapor deposition(LF-PECVD) at room temperature. The LF_PECVD has a couple of advantages as follows: cheap, and the employment of low power density makes the damage of samples small. The a-C:H films deposited in this work were highly transparent(99%), highly resistance(109-1011${\Omega}$-cm), and very uniform. The samples were deposited by the decomposition of CH4 and H2 mixing gas in the pressure rate range of 1% to 30%. The deposition rates, optical gap, and hydrogen contents are increased with CH4 contents.

  • Influence of sustain pulse-width on electro-luminous efficiency is experimentally investigated for surface discharge of AC-PDP. It is found that the firing voltage is decreased as the pulse-width is increased from $2\;{\mu}s$ to $8\;{\mu}s$ with sweeping frequency range of 10 kHz to 50 kHz. It has been found that the optimal sustain pulse-width is in the range of $3{\sim}4\;{\mu}s$ under driving frequency range of 30 kHz and 50 kHz, based on observations of memory coefficient, wall charge, and wall voltage as well as luminous efficiency.

  • The improved hitch device, which connecting the trailer to power tiller, was developed. This device, composed with spring and rubber, could reduce the vibration and shock levels during driven on off-road. The vertical vibration accelerations for the improved hitch device were measured at 6 positions, i.e. engine, hitch, seat, and three points in trailer (front, middle, and rear) for not driving but at low engine speed of 500 rpm, and compared with the existing hitch device. The results of this study could be summarized as follows; The average vibration acceleration up to 120 Hz was $0.4m/s^2$ at engine part, but it was 0.08 and $0.05m/s^2$ at trailer for existing and improved hitch device, respectively. About $38\%$ of average acceleration level could be absorbed for the improved hitch device compared with existing hitch device. The average vibration acceleration up to 40 Hz was reduced to 0.12 and $0.06m/s^2$ at trailer for existing and improved hitch device respectively, showing the reduction effect of $50\%$. The maximum acceleration occurred at up to 20 Hz of low frequency was much higher than total acceleration occurred at up to 120 Hz, which means that much loss or damage could be occurred during transporting of agricultural products on off-road. The portions of average acceleration occurred at up to 20 Hz of low frequency were $27\%\;and\;21\%$ for the existing and improved hitch device, respectively.

  • The a-C : H films have been grown on the glass substrate by PECVD method, where plasma was generated with a 60 Hz line power source. The growth rate of films is found to be dependent of the partial pressure of $C_2H_2$. This growth rate is a little higher than that in which $CH_4$ instead of $C_2H_2$ is used. The transmittance is also much higher(95%). The optical energy gap of films is in the range of 1.4~1.8eV depending on the partial pressure of $C_2H_2$. However, this energy gap, which is 1.8eV, is found to be independent of the partial pressure of $C_2H_2$ for the thick films above $2000{\AA}$. The carbonization is checked from peak intensities of D ($sp^3$) and G($sp^2$) peaks in Roman spectra. The hydronization and C-H bonding status in films can also be determined from FTIR results. Both the bonding strength of C-H and the ratio of $sp^3$ to $sp^2$ in bonding are found to be slightly dependent of partial pressure of $C_2H_2$. Judging from above results, we can conclude that the best value for partial pressure of $C_2H_2$ in growing process of thick films is about 13.8%.

  • The effect of application of gypsum (G), popped rice hulls (PRH), and zeolite (Z) in exchangeable cations concentrations of reclaimed tideland soil in Kyehwado was investigated for 3 years from 2004 to 2006 in a pot experiment with bermuda grass (Cynodon dactylon). Treatments with three soil conditioner and with three applications were established with three replications; G1 (1,550 kg $10a^{-1}$), G2 (3,100), and G3 (6,200) for gypsum, H1 (1,000), H2 (2,000), and H3 (3,000) for PRH, and HZ1 (200), HZ2 (400), and HZ3 (800) for co-application of zeolite with PRH at the 1,500 kg $10a^{-1}$. At 60, 90, 120 days after treatment (DAT), exchangeable cations ($K^+$, $Na^+$, $Mg^{2+}$, and $Ca^{2+}$) were analyzed Gypsum application significantly decreased $k^+$, $Na^+$, $Mg^{2+}$ in the soil probably due to exchange and subsequent leaching of these cations by $Ca^{2+}$ from the gypsum applied. Overall, $K^+$ concentration was gradually decreased by continuous application of soil conditioners and was in the order of 2004>2005>2006 regardless of the kinds and application rate of soil conditioners. Comparing $K^+$ concentrations among the soil conditioners in the same year, its concentration was in the order of gypsum$Na^+$ concentration; i.e. $Na^+$ concentration was in the order of gypsum$\ll$PRH$Mg^{2+}$ also showed a similar pattern to $Na^+$. Gypsum application significantly increased $Ca^{2+}$ concentration and in the gypsum treated soil $Ca^{2+}$ concentration increased with years.
