Evaluation of the reutilization of used nuclear fuel in a PWR core without reprocessing

  • Use of the reconstructed fuel assemblies from partially burnt nuclear fuel pins is analyzed. This reutilization option is a potential candidate technique to make better use of the nuclear resources. Standard two step method is used to calculate node i.e. fuel assembly average burnup and then pin by pin ${\eta}$ values are reconstructed to ascertain the residual reactivity in the used fuel pins. Fuel pins with ${\eta}$ > 1:0 are used to reconstruct to-be-reused fuel assemblies. These reconstructed fuel assemblies are burnt during the cycle 3, 4, 5 and 6 of a 1000 MW PWR core by replacing fresh, once burnt and twice burnt fuel assemblies of the reference core configurations. It is concluded that using reconstructed fuel assemblies for the fresh fuel affect dearly on the cycle length (>50 EFPD) when more than 16 fresh fuel assemblies are replaced. However, this loss is less than 20 days if the number of fresh fuel assemblies is less than eight. For the case of replacing twice burned fuel, cycle length could be increased slightly (10 days or so) provided burnt fuel pins from other reactors were also available. Reactor safety parameters, like axial off set (< ${\pm}10%$), Doppler temperature coefficient (<0), moderator temperature coefficient at HFP (<0) are always satisfied. Though, 2D and 3D pin peaking factors are satisfied (<1:55) and (<2:52) respectively, for the cases using eight or less reconstructed fuel assemblies only.

  • 산소 및 공기와 반응시 크랙된 JP-7 연료의 점화 특성에 관한 연구를 넓은 범위의 압력(1-20atm)과 온도(1200-2000K), 당량비(0.5-1.5)에 대해서 수행하였다. Chemkin-II Package와 최소 자승법을 이용하여 $\tau=Aexp(E/RT)[F]^{a}[O_2]^{b}$형태로 점화 지연시간을 계산하고 각 변수 사이의 상호관계를 검증하였다. 크랙된 JP-7 연료에서 $C_3$ 탄화수소 계열 성분의 영향을 두 가지 다른 크랙된 JP-7연료의 조성에 대하여 점화지연 시간을 비교하였으며, 액체 JP-7 연료의 점화 지연 시간과도 비교하여 보았다.

  • 본 논문은 냉간단조 연료펌프와 다이캐스팅의 연료펌프에 대해 성능 실험과 아세트산이 포함된 에탄올에 250시간 연료펌프를 구동하여 부식성에 대해 실험을 수행하였다. 성능실험을 수행한 결과, 냉간단조된 하부하우징과 다이캐스팅된 하부하우징으로 제작된 연료펌프의 성능은 동등한 수준이었다. 내부식성은 다이캐스팅된 하부하우징보다 냉간단조된 하부하우징이 더 우수하였으며, 냉간단조된 하부하우징이 다이캐스팅된 하부하우징보다 치밀한 조직을 가지고 있었다.

  • The purpose of this study is to compare the part-load performance of a SOFC/GT hybrid power system with three different kinds of load-following operation modes. The primary mode for the part load operation of a hybrid power system is the reduction of supplied fuel (e.g., fuel control mode) to the hybrid system. The other two options, i.e., variable speed and VIGV controls, are related to the reduction of supplied air simultaneously with the reduction of supplied fuel to the system. With the performance analysis of a SOFC/GT hybrid power system, it is concluded that the variable speed con佐ol mode Provides the best performance for the part-load operations. It is also found that the VIGV control mode, with its better performance behavior than the fuel control mode, can be used as an important option for the part-load operation especially in case that the variable speed control mode can not be adopted.

Novel reforming of pyrolized fuel oil by electron beam radiation for pitch production

  • Pyrolized fuel oil (PFO) was reformed by novel electron beam (E-beam) radiation, and the elemental composition, chemical bonds, average molecular weight, solubility, softening point, yields, and density of the modified patches were characterized. These properties of modified pitch were dependent on the reforming method (heat or E-beam radiation treatment) and absorbed dose. Aromaticity ($F_a$), average molecular weight, solubility, softening point, and density increased in proportion to the absorbed dose of E-beam radiation, with the exception of the highest absorbed dose, due to modification by free radical polymerization and the powerful energy intensity of E-beam treatment. The H/C ratio and yield exhibited the opposite trend for the same reason. These results indicate that novel E-beam radiation reforming is suitable for the preparation of aromatic pitch with a high ${\beta}$-resin content.

  • Surely fuel economy(F.E.) label is needed to meet consumer's right to know. Korea has developed and adopted F.E. correction equation similar to the feeling, because consumer complain about F.E. label higher than they feel. Recently, through continuous research and development high-efficiency & performance green car like HEV, PHEV and EV are being sold. In this situation, it is needed to know whether the current equation can reflect a part of their improved technic or not. In this paper, to review current equation through test using hybrid vehicles on 5-cycle SOC, correction equation and F.E were discussed. The result show HEV didn't meet the SOC error standard on US06. Also, HEV has bigger F.E. difference between FTP-75 and 5-cycle than conventional vehicles. However, the correction equation that include HEV almost same with current one.

Advanced Interchangeable Dynamic Simulation Model for the Optimal Design of a Fuel Cell Power Conditioning System

  • This paper presents an advanced dynamic simulation model of a proton exchange membrane fuel cell for the optimal design of a fuel cell power conditioning system (FC-PCS). For the development of fuel cell models, the dynamic characteristics of the fuel cell are considered, including its static characteristics. Then, software fuel cell simulation is realized using Matlab-Simulink. Specifically, the design consideration of PCS (i.e., power semiconductor switch, capacitor, and inductor) is discussed by comparatively analyzing the developed simulator and ideal DC source. In addition, a cosimulation between the fuel cell model and PCS realized using the PSIM software is performed with the help of the SimCoupler module. Detailed analysis and informative simulation results are provided for the optimal design of fuel cell PCS.

선박 및 육상 디젤 엔진용 연료유에서 발생하는 입자상물질에 대한 무차원 광소멸계수 계측에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Measurement of the Dimensionless Light Extinction Constant for Particulate Matter from Fuel Oil for Marine and Land Diesel Engines)

  • 선박용 연료유가 연소하는 과정에서 배출되는 오염물질은 대기오염을 유발하고 인체에 유해한 영향을 미치는 것으로 알려져 있다. 그에 따라, IMO에서는 선박에서 배출되는 오염물질을 규제하고 있다. 하지만 입자상물질(Particulate matter: PM)에 대한 규제는 아직 논의단계에 있으므로 선제적인 대응이 필요하다. 그러기 위해서는 입자상물질에 대한 기초적인 연구가 필수적이다. 이번 연구에서는 해상용 연료유에서 발생하는 입자상물질의 기초 데이터 구축을 위해 선박 디젤 엔진에 사용되는 연료유의 무차원 광소멸계수($K_e$)를 계측하여 분석하였다. 특성 비교를 위해 육상 디젤 엔진에 사용되는 연료유를 같은 방법으로 측정하였다. 두 연료유는 황함유량과 밀도에서 차이가 난다. 무차원 광소멸계수($K_e$)는 633 nm의 레이저를 이용하여 광학적인 방법으로 측정하고 중력식 필터법에 의해 채집된 입자상물질의 체적분율을 이용하여 결정하였다. 선박용 연료유에서 배출되는 입자상물질의 무차원 광소멸계수($K_e$)는 8.28이고, 육상용 연료유는 8.44이다. 두 연료유의 무차원 광소멸계수($K_e$)는 측정 불확도 범위내에서 거의 유사하였다. 하지만 Rayleigh limit 해법에서 구한 값과의 비교를 통해 광산란 비중이 클 수 있는 부분과 광투과율과 채집질량과의 관계를 통해 광소멸 특성이 상이할 수 있음을 확인하였다.

생활폐수 내 혼합균주를 이용한 미생물 연료전지의 구동 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Driving Characteristics of Microbial Fuel Cell Using Mixed Strains in Domestic Wastewater)

  • The use of fossil fuels is a major contributor to the increase atmospheric greenhouse gas emissions. As such problems arise, interest in new and renewable energy devices, particularly fuel cells, is greatly increasing. In this study, various characteristics of mixed strains were observed in wastewater collected by the Jeonju Environment Office to investigate the effects of microorganisms on voltage generation and voltage generation of substrates, electrode materials, electrons, electron transport media, and ash microbial fuel cells. As a result of separately measuring the voltage generated during inoculation, the inoculation voltage of Escherichia coli K12 (E. coli K12) was 0.45 V, and the maximum inoculation voltage of the mixed strain was 1.2 V. Thereafter, voltage values were collected using a digital multimeter and the amount of voltage generated over time was measured. In the case of E. coli K12, the maximum voltage reached 0.45 V, and the cell voltage was maintained above 0.23 V for 140 hours. In contrast, for the mixed strain, the maximum voltage reached 1.2 V and the voltage was slowly decreased to 0.97 V. In addition, the degree of microbial adsorption to the electrod surface after the inoculation test was confirmed using a scanning electron microscope. Therefore, these results showed the possibility of purifying pollutants at the same time as power generation through the production of hydrogen ions using microorganisms and wastewater.
