  • The purpose of this study is to investigate how interactions and affective factors are influencing on-line English Grammar courses of higher education. This study addressed the following questions: (1) How are the interactions going in on-line English Grammar courses? (2) Are affective factors influencing effective learning in on-line English Grammar courses? The questionnaire was conducted on 170 college students who have taken on-line English course of K University. The data analysis of 300 college students' responses on their courses showed that e-learning has both positive and negative effects compared to face to face classroom instructions. Analysis showed that the percentage of students who have got negative opinions on e-learning was 17%, while that of students who have got positive opinions was 49.3%. The percentage of those in the middle was 33.3%. However, results demonstrated that immediate feedback and affective factors could be facilitated through Q&A bulletin and feedback program for completing on-line learning. Negative effects of on-line learning can be solved by a planned and well-supported on-line approach that includes a theory-based instructional model rather than the new method replaced by 'blended learning' that combines face-to-face classroom instruction with on-line learning.

This class is aimed at making teaching-learning in the dress unit effective, triggering students' interest in it, enhancing their understanding and offering basic materials for the e-Learning development about clothing instruction in the subject of technology & home economics. To make the concrete situational learning effective and provide realistic learning environments, learning contents were implemented so that the learners themselves could manipulate the contents by clicking. How to wear clothing according to learners' individuality was presented in order to trigger the learners' attention and motivation using the latest clothing pictures from the Internet shopping mall, and the dress fashion pictures of their peers. The result of this study can be summed up as follows. First, the implementation of learning materials with which simulation manipulation and visualization were possible could make the students reach the learning goals easily. Second, teaching-learning activity could be made more effective using audios, images and moving pictures rather than written texts. Third, learning the dress unit, which is especially related with a new fashion, made the most of the advantage of e-Learning by providing realistic and lively learning materials in a timely manner. And it triggered learners' motivation by providing pictures or moving pictures related with their real life. Based on these research results, this study suggests further research to develop e-Learning contents using various multimedia authoring tools as well as the ones applied to this study in learning the dress unit. It also suggests that the database of teaching-learning materials be constructed to securely prepare abundant instruction materials.

  • This study aims to show that "Computer-assisted language learning (CALL)" and "Mobile-based language learning (MALL)" actually influence education, deviating from the traditional "drill and practice" method in foreign language education and learning due to the development of information and communication technology (IT). Specifically, for first-year college students who have relatively poor English skills and do not feel enough motivation for English learning, I will produce educational video content using multimedia authoring tools and upload it to the e-learning system. Video content is configured to be accessed and utilized through various media such as computers, smartphones, tablets, laptops, etc. Ultimately, an exploration of educational value behind the utilization of IT devices in English language Teaching(ELT) and the Second Language Acquisition (SLA) theory behind effective instructional use of such technology are presented. That is to say, the effectiveness of language learning using information and communication technology (IT) is introduced. The article closes by suggesting how to use computers and mobile media for 'Flipped Learning'.

  • We consider a Direct Input Output Manufacturing System(DIOMS) which has a munber of machine centers placed along a built-in Automated Storage/Retrieval System(AS/RS). The Storage/Retrieval (S/R) machine handles parts placed on pallets for the operational aspect of DIOMS and determines the optimal operating policy by combining computer simulation and genetic algorithm. The operational problem includes: input sequencing control, dispatching rule of the S/R machine, machine center-based part type selection rule, and storage assignment policy. For each operating policy, several different policies are considered based on the known research results. In this paper, using the computer simulation and genetic algorithm we suggest a method which gives the optimal configuration of operating policies within reasonable computation time.

  • Recently, web-based E-learning systems have entered the spotlight by providing new learning environments that break down spatial and temporal limitations. The key to building the web-based E-learning system is in determining how to effectively use the system and to evaluate the degree of learning achieved by the students that use it. In traditional off-line learning systems, we can evaluate students by counting how many questions, designed to evaluate their learning achievement, he or she answers correctly within a predetermined time limit. But this method would make individualized learning, a strong point of E-learning systems, impossible because these systems provide same learning strategy to all students even though they achieve a different level of learning. Therefore, in this paper, I will find any relationships between given test answers using fuzzy implication theory, I call these fuzzy correlations, and then generate evaluation results that are reflected in those relationships. I will compare the differences between this evaluation method and a traditional evaluation method where a student takes a test to evaluate his or her learning achievement after some learning period. Finally, I will discuss how we can use these results in individualized learning.
