Hybrid Controller of Neural Network and Linear Regulator for Multi-trailer Systems Optimized by Genetic Algorithms

  • A hybrid control scheme is proposed for the stabilization of backward movement along simple paths for a vehicle composed of a truck and six trailers. The hybrid comprises the combination of a linear quadratic regulator (LQR) and a neurocontroller (NC) that is trained by a genetic algorithm (GA). Acting singly, either the NC or the LQR are unable to perform satisfactorily over the entire range of the operation required, but the proposed hybrid is shown to be capable of providing good overall system performance. The evaluation function of the NC in the hybrid design has been modified from the conventional type to incorporate both the squared errors and the running steps errors. The reverse movement of the trailer-truck system can be modeled as an unstable nonlinear system, with the control problem focusing on the steering angle. Achieving good backward movement is difficult because of the restraints of physical angular limitations. Due to these constraints the system is impossible to globally stabilize with standard smooth control techniques, since some initial states necessarily lead to jack-knife locks. This paper demonstrates that a hybrid of neural networks and LQR can be used effectively for the control of nonlinear dynamical systems. Results from simulated trials are reported.

  • When developing railway vehicle system, investigation of the dynamical stability is essential as a virtual prototyping process. Not only the verification using the commercial analysis tools, systematic analysis using customized tools is also necessary, because these can give other points of view in stability, which is sometimes unable to evaluate in the former one. As a solver platform for customization, it is important to derive basic theory about flexible bodies and build flexible structure, which enables easy module insertion of user-created functions. In the paper, a flexible dynamic analysis system is developed, using absolute cartesian coordinate, modal coordinate and absolute nodal coordinate. Each coordinate system is verified by respective examples for every system. This solver system will play an important role for building the basic platform for analysis system, keeping pace with the concurrent development of the modules, such as wheel-contact force, constraints and user-defined force modules. Using the information from the analysis, the evaluation of the dynamic behavior of the train and its stability analysis will be available.

  • The use of high-strength concrete has increased for its excellent structural stability as buildings become higher and bigger than ever before in Korea and overseas recently. The functional requirement of building materials has also been bolstered so for the high -performance, high-quality construction materials to be used more extensively. However, the internal structure of the high-strength concrete is very dense so spalling can be caused during fire. The spalling in turn can cause critical structural damages followed by the fatal consequences, demolition of the building. Therefore, ensuring fire safety for high-rise buildings is assumed to be urgent. Alumino-silicate fire resistant board producing technology has been developed in situations that new materials with excellent fire resistance and easy installation has been sought. The alumino-silicate fire resistant board turned out to exhibit not only fire resistance and excellent physical and dynamical characteristics but also excellent onsite applicability and easy process and transportation after completing Mock-up test. Its excellence as a high-performance building materials was proven.

A Study on Development of Wireless Check-up Device for Captive Flight Test (탑재비행시험용 무선 점검장치 개발에 대한 연구)

  • In this paper, a study on a wireless check-up method of test equipment for captive flight test(CFT) was conducted. For CFT, test equipment is mounted on a POD, and check-up is carried on the test equipment's. For check-up the POD wirelessly, battery, power distribution unit, wireless communication devices were designed within the POD, and a check-up device is designed outside of the POD. Once the external check-up device sends a 'start signal' to the POD, it performs the overall check-up procedures and transmits the 'end signal' to the external check-up device. Detailed check-up results are stored in an internal storage device, and are possible to read from external check-up device if necessary, thereby improving the reliability of the wireless check-up. By implementing and applying these wireless check-up system, the reliability of the check-up was enhanced by dynamical and movable check-up, and safety is guaranteed as the check-up was carried without access to the aircraft.

Evaluation of Reproduced Precipitation by WRF in the Region of CORDEX-East Asia Phase 2 (CORDEX-동아시아 2단계 영역 재현실험을 통한 WRF 강수 모의성능 평가)

  • This study evaluates the performance of the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model in reproducing the present-day (1981~2005) precipitation over Far East Asia and South Korea. The WRF model is configured with 25-km horizontal resolution within the context of the COordinated Regional climate Downscaling Experiment (CORDEX) - East Asia Phase 2. The initial and lateral boundary forcing for the WRF simulation are derived from European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecast Interim reanalysis. According to our results, WRF model shows a reasonable performance to reproduce the features of precipitation, such as seasonal climatology, annual and inter-annual variabilities, seasonal march of monsoon rainfall and extreme precipitation. In spite of such model's ability to simulate major features of precipitation, systematic biases are found in the downscaled simulation in some sub-regions and seasons. In particular, the WRF model systematically tends to overestimate (underestimate) precipitation over Far East Asia (South Korea), and relatively large biases are evident during the summer season. In terms of inter-annual variability, WRF shows an overall smaller (larger) standard deviation in the Far East Asia (South Korea) compared to observation. In addition, WRF overestimates the frequency and amount of weak precipitation, but underestimates those of heavy precipitation. Also, the number of wet days, the precipitation intensity above the 95 percentile, and consecutive wet days (consecutive dry days) are overestimated (underestimated) over eastern (western) part of South Korea. The results of this study can be used as reference data when providing information about projections of fine-scale climate change over East Asia.

Recognition of Car Plate using Gray Brightness Variation, HSI Information and Enhanced ART2 Algorithm (명암도 변화 및 HSI 정보와 개선된 ART2 알고리즘을 이용한 차량 번호판 인식)

  • We proposed an enhanced extraction method of vehicle plate, in which both the brightness variation of gray and the Hue value of HSI color model were used. For the extraction of the vehicle plate from a vehicle image, first of all, candidate regions for the vehicle plate were extracted from the image by using the property of brightness variation of the image. A real place region was determined among candidate regions by the density of pixels with the Hue value of green and white. For- extracting the feature area containing characters from the extracted vehicle plate, we used the histogram-based approach of individual characters. And we proposed and applied for the recognition of characters the enhanced ART2 algorithm which support the dynamical establishment of the vigilance threshold with the genera]iced union operator of Yager. In addition, we propose an enhanced SOSL algorithm which is integrated both enhanced ART2 and supervised learning methods. The performance evaluation was performed using 100's real vehicle images and the evaluation results demonstrated that the extraction rates of tole proposed extraction method were improved, compared with that of previous methods based un brightness variation, RGB and HSI individually . Furthermore, the recognition rates of the proposed algorithms were improved much more than that of the conventional ART2 and BP algorithms.

  • This study was carried out to investigate replaceable species with the conventional sounding board sitka spruce. by comparing the dynamic properties such as density, dynamic Young's modulus and internal friction Dynamic Young's modulus. internal friction of longitudinal and radial direction measured in free mass-free boundary condition for facile vibration analysis and measured by forced vibration method. Dynamical properties of four species were measured on squared plate specimen that the four edges were hung vertically by threads and driven magnetically through an iron piece glued on the specimen, by the use of condenser microphone as vibration transducer, and analyzed by FFT analyzer. The results obtained were as follows: 1. Chaldni method using aluminum powder was proper to identify the vibration mode in the plate vibration and it was possible to verify the resornance mode. 2. It was considered that it was necessary to investigate the influence of adhesive part on the plate vibration when the sounding board was made by two or three small board adhesion. 3. It was considered that plate vibration method, which was a superior to the vibration test of beam, was suitable for selecting suounding board because dynamic Young's modulus and internal friction show different order according to longitudinal and radial direction. 4. Paulownia tomentosa Thunb.) Steudel has been considered to be replaceable species with sitka spruce because it has high dynamic Young's modulus compared with low density, low internal friction, and K value of Paulownia tomentosa (Thunb.) Steudel is greater than that of sitka spruce.

An Enhanced Fuzzy ART Algorithm for The Effective Identifier Recognition From Shipping Container Image (효과적인 운송 컨테이너 영상의 식별자 인식을 위한 개선된 퍼지 ART 알고리즘)

  • The vigilance threshold of conventional fuzzy ART algorithm decide whether to permit the mismatch between any input pattern and stored pattern. If the vigilance threshold was large, despite of little difference among input and stored patterns, the input pattern may be classified to new category. On the other hand, if the vigilance threshold was small, the similarity between two patterns may be accepted in spite of lots of difference and the input pattern are classified to category of the stored pattern. Therefore, the vigilance threshold for the image recognition must be experientially set for the good result. Moreover, it may occur in the fuzzy ART algorithm that the information of stored patterns is lost in the weight-adjusting process and the rate of pattern recognition is dropped. In this paper, I proposed the enhanced fuzzy ART algorithm that supports the dynamical setting of the vigilance threshold using the generalized intersection operator of fuzzy logic and the weight value being adaptively set in proportional to the current weight change and the previous weight by reflecting the frequency of the selection of winner node. For the performance evaluation of the proposed method, we applied to the recognition of container identifiers from shipping container images. The experiment showed that the proposed method produced fewer clusters than conventional ART2 and fuzzy ART algorithm. and had tile higher recognition rate.

Modified Transformation and Evaluation for High Concentration Ozone Predictions (고농도 오존 예측을 위한 향상된 변환 기법과 예측 성능 평가)

  • To reduce damage from high concentration ozone in the air, we have researched how to predict high concentration ozone before it occurs. High concentration ozone is a rare event and its reaction mechanism has nonlinearities and complexities. In this paper, we have tried to apply and consider as many methods as we could. We clustered the data using the fuzzy c-mean method and took a rejection sampling to fill in the missing and abnormal data. Next, correlations of the input component and output ozone concentration were calculated to transform more correlated components by modified log transformation. Then, we made the prediction models using Dynamic Polynomial Neural Networks. To select the optimal model, we adopted a minimum bias criterion. Finally, to evaluate suggested models, we compared the two models. One model was trained and tested by the transformed data and the other was not. We concluded that the modified transformation effected good to ideal performance In some evaluations. In particular, the data were related to seasonal characteristics or its variation trends.

Evaluation of Climatological Mean Surface Winds over Korean Waters Simulated by CORDEX-EA Regional Climate Models (CORDEX-EA 지역기후모형이 모사한 한반도 주변해 기후평균 표층 바람 평가)

  • Surface winds over the ocean influence not only the climate change through air-sea interactions but the coastal erosion through the changes in wave height and direction. Thus, demands on a reliable projection of future changes in surface winds have been increasing in various fields. For the future projections, climate models have been widely used and, as a priori, their simulations of surface wind are required to be evaluated. In this study, we evaluate the climatological mean surface winds over the Korean Waters simulated by five regional climate models participating in Coordinated Regional Climate Downscaling Experiment (CORDEX) for East Asia (EA), an international regional climate model inter-comparison project. Compared with the ERA-interim reanalysis data, the CORDEX-EA models, except for HadGEM3-RA, produce stronger wind both in summer and winter. The HadGEM3-RA underestimates the wind speed and inadequately simulate the spatial distribution especially in summer. This summer wind error appears to be coincident with mean sea-level pressure in the North Pacific. For wind direction, all of the CORDEX-EA models simulate the well-known seasonal reversal of surface wind similar to the ERA-interim. Our results suggest that especially in summer, large-scale atmospheric circulation, downscaled by regional models with spectral nudging, significantly affect the regional surface wind on its pattern and strength.
