  • Recently, voltage sag from sudden increasing loads is also one of the major problems inside the utility network. In order to compensate the voltage sag problem, power compensation device systems could be a good solution method. In case of voltage sag, an energy source is needed to overcome the energy loss caused by the voltage sag. Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage (SMES) is a very promising source of this energy due to its fast response of charging and discharging time. Before constructing the power electronic delivering system for the SMES, it is necessary to simulate the system to understand its behavior. Nowadays, a lot of devices have been developed to compensate voltage sag such as Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DVR), Distribution Static Compensator (D-STATCOM) and Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS). In this paper, focus is given only on DVR system which will be simulated by using PSCAD/EMTDC software.

  • In this study, a few of the modeling methods for flexible spacecraft were introduced and adopted to the modeling of a 3-axes stabilization satellite. The generated model was put into pre-built rigid body attitude control loop. A Lumped Parameter Model(Global Mode Model: GMM) was recommended for the absence of the Finite Element Method(FEM) model. Finally, GMM was compared with FEM in terms of designing a control filter. A 1st-order filter was designed to meet requirements of the controller since the new flexible model was applied, and that filter was added to motor controller and axis controller. MATLAB/Simulink was used as a tool for design and simulation of the control loop and filter.

  • Investigation of structural integrity has been a critical issue in the field of civil engineering for years. Visual inspection is one of the most available methods to explore deteriorative components in structures. Still, this method is not applicable to invisible damage of structures. Alternatively, system identification methods are capable of tracking modal properties of structures over time. The deviation of these dynamic properties can serve as indicators to access structural integrity. In this study, a modal tracking technique using frequency-domain system identification from seismic responses of structures is proposed. The method first segments the measured signals into overlapped sequential portions and then establishes multiple Hankel matrices. Each Hankel matrix is then converted to the frequency domain, and a temporal-average frequency-domain Hankel matrix can be calculated. This study also proposes the frequency band selection that can divide the frequency-domain Hankel matrix into several portions in accordance with referenced natural frequencies. Once these referenced natural frequencies are unavailable, the first few right singular vectors by the singular value decomposition can offer these references. Finally, the frequency-domain stochastic subspace identification tracks the natural frequencies and mode shapes of structures through quick stabilization diagrams. To evaluate performance of the proposed method, a numerical study is carried out. Moreover, the long-term monitoring strong motion records at a specific site are exploited to assess the tracking performance. As seen in results, the proposed method is capable of tracking modal properties through seismic responses of structures.

  • This paper presents an intelligent model; named as free model, approach for a closed-loop system identification using input and output data and its application to design a power system stabilizer (PSS). The free model concept is introduced as an alternative intelligent system technique to design a controller for such dynamic system, which is complex, difficult to know, or unknown, with input and output data only, and it does not require the detail knowledge of mathematical model for the system. In the free model, the data used has incremental forms using backward difference operators. The parameters of the free model can be obtained by simultaneous perturbation stochastic approximation (SPSA) method. A linear transformation is introduced to convert the free model into a linear model so that a conventional linear controller design method can be applied. In this paper, the feasibility of the proposed method is demonstrated in a one-machine infinite bus power system. The linear quadratic regulator (LQR) method is applied to the free model to design a PSS for the system, and compared with the conventional PSS. The proposed SPSA-based LQR controller is robust in different loading conditions and system failures such as the outage of a major transmission line or a three phase to ground fault which causes the change of the system structure.

  • The purpose of this study is to find application of combination of insotonic(CI) in clinical approach. This is a literature study with books and clinical experience. CI was developed after Margaret Knott that is very useful in clinically. CI has two lever system. It has class II lever system for eccentric contraction and class III lever system for concentric contraction. Therefore it make two different contraction that is not only magnitude of motion and speed increase of motion but also biomechanical advantage. Application of CI has much variety by patient position and treatment position. Especially, it is very effectable on mat activities and training for mid stance period. CI apply in supine position on treatment table, mat or high mat activities, bridging activities, all fourth activities and sit on chair activities. CI apply serially with different techniques. These are rhythmic initiation, dynamic reversal, approximation, rhythmic stabilization and replication.

  • The mobile camera module is a device to be inserted in the digital device for camera feature. The mobile camera module is being shaken by vibrations such as handshake during the exposure time. The clarity is compromised by these vibrations, thus the vibration is considered as an external disturbance. Moreover the use of mobile camera module has been being expanded for automotive vibration should be considered. These external disturbances can cause image blurring, thus optical image stabilization should be applied for image compensation. The compensator is fulfilled mechanically by movable lens group or image sensor that adjusts the optical path to the camera movement. Open loop control is useful for well-defined systems like compliant mechanism. Notch filter and lead compensator are designed and applied to improve the stability and bandwidth. The final level of image compensating is confirmed by image processing with MATLAB and CODE V to verify the better performance.

  • HRIV(Hybrid Rule-Interval Variation) method is presented to stabilize a class of nonlinear systems, where SMC(Sliding Mode Control) and ADC (ADaptive Control) schemes are incorporated to overcome the unstable characteristics of a conventional FLC(Fuzzy Logic Control). HRIV method consists of two modes: I-mode (Integral Sliding Mode PLC) and R-mode(RIV method). In I-mode, SMC is used to compensate for MAE(Minimum Approximation Error) caused by the heuristic characteristics of FLC. In R-mode, RIV method reduces interval lengths of rules as states converge to an equilibrium point, which makes the defined Lyapunov function candidate negative semi-definite without considering MAE, and the new uncertain parameters generated in R-mode are compensated by SMC. In RIV method, the overcontraction problem that the states are out of a rule-table can happen by the excessive reduction of rule intervals, which is solved with a dynamic modification of rule-intervals and a transition to I-mode. Especially, HRIV method has advantages to use the analytic upper bound of MAE and to reduce Its effect in the control input, compared with the previous researches. Finally, the proposed method is applied to stabilize a simple nonlinear system and a modified inverted pendulum system in simulation experiments.

  • This study measured the shearing resistance of the roots of the Sasamorpha purpurascens, Miscanthus sinensis, Lespedeza cyrtobotrya by the tensile strength gained through their individual tensile test for the Root Reinforcement Model. The results to have measured this stress by experiment are as follows. 1) The mean root diameter of the Lespedeza cyrtobotrya used for this experiment was 2.19mm and the mean tensile stress was calculated as $929.489kgf/cm^2$. As for the Sasamorpha purpurascens, its mean root diameter was 1.727mm, and the mean tensile stress was $292.069kgf/cm^2$. And as for the Miscanthus sinensis, its mean root diameter was 0.814mm, and the mean tensile stress was $696.947kgf/cm^2$. And so, it was grasped that Lespedeza cyrtobotrya was highest in tensile stress. 2) ${\Delta}Cr(kg/cm^2)$ of the shearing resistance calculated by estimating the areal ratio of roots at $10^{-3}$ is $1.069kg/cm^2$ in Lespedeza cyrtobotrya, $0.336kg/cm^2$ in Sasamorpha purpurascens, and $0.801kg/cm^2$ in Miscanthus sinensis. That is, Lespedeza cyrtobotrya has the highest shearing resistance. However, since a precise analysis of the controlled factors of the slope analyses are demanded for more accurate dynamic analyses, the future demands a study on this.

  • In ship operation the consequence of roll and pitchingmotion can seriously degrade the performance of mechanical and personnel effectiveness. So many studies for the roll stabilization and trimming control system design have been performed and good results have been achieved where the stabilizing fins, tanks, rudders and flaps are used. However the ultimate objective of such approach should be focused on improving the boarding sensitivity. But there may exist many unsolved problems, for examples, ship control performance degradation and increasing of system complexity. So, the achieved control performance could not give us enough comfortable boarding sensitivity where the residual rolling and pitching motion are main drawbacks. To get rid of these disadvantages, the main hull control systems design approach has been considered using semiactive absorber. In this system, dampers, spring, dynamic dampers and control system with sensors are incorporated. In our system considered in this study, just two motors and control system with sensors are used for the bed. And the control system can be installed on each bed. So, we can control every bed on the specified control objective respectively. Above all, the good advantages of this system are the facts followed from simple idea and usefulness. Of course the structural modifications are needed. Considering disturbances, we design control system and verify the usefulness of developed system from the experimental study.

  • This paper presents the synchronous vibration control of a rotor system using an active air bearing(AAB). In order to suppress the synchronous vibration, it is necessary to actively control the air film pressure or the air film thickness. In this study, active pads are used to control the air film thickness. Active pads are supported by pivots containing piezoelectric actuators and their radial position can be actively controlled by applying voltage to the actuators. Thus, disturbances, i. e. various kinds of external force can cause shaft vibration as well as change of the air film thickness. The dynamic behavior of a rotary system supported by two tilting-pad gas bearings and its active stabilization using the tilting-pads as actuators are investigated numerically. The $\mu$ synthesis are applied to the AAB system with three pads, two of which contain piezoelectric actuators. To test the validity of the theoretical method, the performance of this control method is evaluated through experiments. The experimental results also show the effectiveness of the control system for suppressing the unbalanced response of the rigid modes.
