The dynamic material property of Mn-B ally high-strength steel is investigated through the rod impact test which is one of simple test methods for the analysis of the material behavior under high-strain-rate. Rod impact test is performed to produce the deformed shape of rod and analyzed by the one-dimensional theory based on conservation law and the two-dimensional hydrocode AUTODYN-2D. The dynamic yield stress is determined and compared with the static yield stress to investigate the strain-rate sensitivity of Mn-B alloy high-strength steel.
This paper presents experimental modal analysis and static load testing results to validate the accuracy of dynamic parameters-based damage locating indices in RC structures. The study investigates the accuracy of different dynamic-based damage locating indices compared to observed crack patterns from static load tests and how different damage levels and scenarios impact them. The damage locating indices based on mode shape curvature and mode shape fourth derivate in their original forms were found to show anomalies along the beam length and at the supports. The modified forms of these indices show higher sensitivity in locating single and multi-cracks at different damage scenarios. The proposed stiffness reduction index shows good sensitivity in detecting single and multi-cracks. The proposed anomalies elimination procedure helps to remove the anomalies along the beam length. Also, the adoption of the proposed weighting method averaging procedure and normalization procedure help to draw the overall crack pattern based on the adopted set of modes.
This paper describes a sensitivity-coefficient-based iterative method for detecting cracks in a structure. The sensitivity coefficients of a cracked structure are obtained by changing its eigenvectors. The proposed method is applied to a cracked cantilever. The crack is modeled as a rotational stiffness. The predicted cracks are in good agreement with those from a structural reanalysis of the cracked structure.
This paper addresses sensitivity analysis for a deterministic multi-period production and inventory model. The model assumes a piecewise linear cost structure, but permits backlogging of unsatisfied demand. Our approach to sensitivity analysis here can be divided into two basic steps; (1) to find the optimal production policy through a forward dynamic programming algorithm similar to the backward version of Zangwill [1966] and (2) to apply the penalty network approach by the author [1986] in order to derive sensitivity ranges for various model parameters. Computational aspects are discussed and topics of further research are suggested.
The impacts of dynamic and thermodynamic schemes used in the Community Ice CodE (CICE), the Los Alamos sea ice model, on sea ice concentration, extent and thickness over the Arctic and Antarctic regions are evaluated. Using the six dynamic and thermodynamic schemes such as sea ice strength scheme, conductivity scheme, albedo type, advection scheme, shortwave radiation method, and sea ice thickness distribution approximation, the sensitivity experiments are conducted. It is compared with a control experiment, which is based on the fixed atmospheric and oceanic forcing. For sea ice concentration and extent, it is found that there are remarkable differences between each sensitivity experiment and the control run over the Arctic and Antarctic especially in summer. In contrast, there are little seasonal variations between the experiments for sea ice thickness. In summer, the change of the albedo type has the biggest influence on the Arctic sea ice concentration, and the Antarctic sea ice concentration has a greater sensitivity to not only the albedo type but also advection scheme. The Arctic sea ice thickness is significantly affected by the albedo type and shortwave radiation method, while the Antarctic sea ice thickness is more sensitive to sea ice strength scheme and advection scheme.
In the stability and sensitivity design and diagnosis approaches, there are various methodologies available. Bond graph modeling by lumping technique is one of the universal methodologies in methodical analysis used by many researchers in all over the world. The accuracy of the method is validated in different arenas. Bond graphs are a concise, pictorial representation of the energy storage, dissipation and exchange mechanisms of interacting dynamic systems, subsystems and components. This paper proposes a bond graph modeling for distributed parameter systems using lumping techniques. Therefore, a steel frame structure was modeled to analyze employing bond graph modeling of distributed system using lumping technique. In the analytical part, the effectiveness of bond graphs to model this system is demonstrated. The dynamic responses of the system were computed and compared with those computed from the finite element analysis. The calculated maximum deflection time histories were found to be comparable. The sensitivity and the stability of the steel frame structure was also studied in different aspects. Thus, the proposed methodology, with its simplicity, can be used for stability and sensitivity analyses as alternative to finite element method for steel structures. The major value brought in the practical design is the simplicity of the proposed method for steel structures.
In order to reduce the expensive CPU time for design sensitivity analysis in dynamic response optimization, this study introduces the design sensitivities approximated within estimated confidence radius in dynamic response optimization with ALM method. The confidence radius is estimated by the linear approximation with Hessian of quasi-Newton formula and qualifies the approximate gradient to be validly used during optimization process. In this study, if the design changes between consecutive iterations are within the estimated confidence radius, then the approximate gradients are accepted. Otherwise, the exact gradients are used such as analytical or finite differenced gradients. This hybrid design sensitivity analysis method is embedded in an in-house ALM based dynamic response optimizer, which solves three typical dynamic response optimization problems and one practical design problem for a tracked vehicle suspension system. The optimization results are compared with those of the conventional method that uses only exact gradients throughout optimization process. These comparisons show that the hybrid method is more efficient than the conventional method. Especially, in the tracked vehicle suspension system design, the proposed method yields 14 percent reduction of the total CPU time and the number of analyses than the conventional method, while giving similar optimum values.
This paper predicts the modified mass and stiffness of structure using the sensitivity coefficients with the iterative method. The sensitivity coefficients are obtained by the change of the eigenvectors according to structural modification. The method is applied to an examples of a 3 degree of freedom system by modifying mass and stiffness. The predicted mass and stiffness are in good agreement with these from the structural reanalysis using the modified mass and stiffness.
This paper considers a make-to-order inventory-production system in which customer orders are admitted only when the number of outstanding customer orders is below a value committed by the system. We deal with general distributions for the customer order Inter-arrival, production, and replenishment lead time processes. Monotonicities of the optimal average cost with respect to these distribution parameters are established using sample path coupling arguments. When distributions are given as an exponential one, we implement a sensitivity analysis on the optimal inventory policy and show that it has monotonicities with respect to system costs using dynamic programming.
