Crack-controlled blasting method which utilizes notched charge hole has been proposed in order to achieve smooth fracture plane and minimize the excavation damage zone. In this study, the blast models, which have a notched charge hole, were analyzed using dynamic fracture process analysis software to investigate the effect of the geometry of a notched charge hole and decoupling indexes of the charge hole on crack growth control in blasting. As a result, crack extension increased and damage crack decreased with the notch length. Ultimately, stress increment factors and resultant fracture patterns with different notch length and width were analyzed in order to examine the effect factors on the crack growth controlling in rock blasts using a notched charge hole.
In spite that the main contents of mathematical and scientific learning are understanding principles and their applications, most of existing educational softwares are based on rote learning, thus resulting in limited educational effects. In the artificial intelligence research, some progress has been made in developing automatic tutors based on proving and simulation, by adapting the techniques of knowledge representation, search and inference to the design of tutors. However, these tutors still fall short of being practical and the turor, even a prototype model, for learning problem solving is yet to come out. The geometry problem-solving tutor proposed by this research involves dynamic inference performed in parallel with learning. As an ontology for composing the problem space within a real-time setting, we have employed the notions of propositions, hypotheses and operators. Then we investigated the mechanism of interactive learning of problem solving in which the main target of inference involves the generation and the test of these components. Major accomplishment from this research is a practical model of a problem tutor embedded with a series of inference techniques for algebraic manipulation, which is indispensable in geometry problem solving but overlooked by previous research. The proposed model is expected to be applicable to the design of problem tutors in other scientific areas such as physics and electric circuitry.

One of the main objects of geometry in mathematics education is to improve students' geometric intuition capability and logical reasoning capability based on them. A visual element related to intuition plays an important role in teaching and learning of geometry. Therefore, in this research, we focus on the development of multimedia title available to dynamic operation about visual elements and verify of effect of its application. This title for the learning of "the Pythagorean theorem and its practical use" in the third grade of middle school is designed and implemented by an authoring tool, Toolbook. And it enables learners to study mathematics individually and can be applied to the educational field, too. And we taught two groups, the applied group and the compared one of the second grade of middle school and surveyed Questions and evaluated study achievement. We calculated study achievement of two groups on t-test using SPSS. As the result, we knew that the applied group is higher than the compared one in the study achievement and provision of dynamic operation possibility on visual elements make students know very high learning effect and help improvement of intelligent capability.
This study is based on the problem that most middle school students cannot recognize the generality of geometrical theorems even after having proved them. By considering this problem from the point of view of empirical verification, the particularity of geometrical representations, and the role of geometrical variables, we suggest that some experiences in dynamic geometry environment (DGE) can help students to recognize the generality of geometrical theorems. That is, this study aims to observe students' cognitive changes related to their recognition of the generality and to provide some educational implications by making students experience some geometrical explorations in DGE. To do so, we selected three middle school students who couldn't recognize the generality of geometrical theorems although they completed their own proofs for the theorems. We provided them exploratory activities in DGE, and observed and analyzed their cognitive changes. Based on this analysis, we discussed the effects of DGE on studensts' recognition of the generality of geometrical theorems.

Dynamic extinction of solid propellants subjected to rapid pressure drop was studied with the aid of energy equation of condensed phase and flame model in gas phase. It is found that the total residence time($\tau_\gamma$) which measures the residing time of fuel in the reaction zone may play a crucial role in determining the dynamic response of the combustuion to extinction. Residence time was modeled by various combinations of diffusion and chemocal kinetic time scale. Effect of pressure history coupled with chamber volume on the extinction response was also performed and was found that dynamic extinction is more susceptible in a confined chamber than in open geometry. And, dynamic extinction was revealed to be affected profoundly by diffysion time scale rather than chemical kinetic time scale.

This paper discusses a model order reduction for large order rotor dynamics systems results from the finite element discretization. Typical rotor systems consist of a rotor, built-on parts, and a support system, and require prudent consideration in their dynamic analysis models because they include unsymmetric stiffness, localized nonproportional damping and frequency dependent gyroscopic effects. When the finite element model has a very large number of degrees of freedom because of complex geometry, repeated dynamic analyses to investigate the critical speeds, stability, and unbalanced response are computationally very expensive to finish within a practical design cycle. In this paper, the Krylov-based model order reduction via moment matching significantly speeds up the dynamic analyses necessary to check eigenvalues and critical speeds of a Nelson-Vaugh rotor system. With this approach the dynamic simulation is efficiently repeated via a reduced system by changing a running rotational speed because it can be preserved as a parameter in the process of model reduction. The Campbell diagram by the reduced system shows very good agreement with that of the original system. A 3-D finite element model of the Nelson-Vaugh rotor system is taken as a numerical example to demonstrate the advantages of this model reduction for rotor dynamic simulation.
The dynamic instability characteristics of laminated composite stiffened shell panels subjected to in-plane harmonic edge loading are investigated in this paper. The eight-noded isoparametric degenerated shell element and a compatible three-noded curved beam element are used to model the shell panels and the stiffeners respectively. As the usual formulation of degenerated beam element is found to overestimate the torsional rigidity, an attempt has been made to reformulate it in an efficient manner. Moreover the new formulation for the beam element requires five degrees of freedom per node as that of shell element. The method of Hill's infinite determinant is applied to analyze the dynamic instability regions. Numerical results are presented to demonstrate the effects of various parameters like shell geometry, lamination scheme, stiffening scheme, static and dynamic load factors and boundary conditions, on the dynamic instability behaviour of laminated composite stiffened panels subjected to in-plane harmonic loads along the boundaries. The results of free vibration and buckling of the laminated composite stiffened curved panels are also presented.
Similar to the essential components of many mechanical systems, the geometrical properties of the teeth of spiral bevel gears greatly influence the kinematic and dynamic behaviors of mechanical systems. Logarithmic spiral bevel gears show a unique advantage in transmission due to their constant spiral angle property. However, a mathematical model suitable for accurate digital modeling, differential geometrical characteristics, and related contact analysis methods for tooth surfaces have not been deeply investigated, since such gears are not convenient in traditional cutting manufacturing in the gear industry. Accurate mathematical modeling of the tooth surface geometry for logarithmic spiral bevel gears is developed in this study, based on the basic gearing kinematics and spherical involute geometry along with the tangent planes geometry; actually, the tooth surface is a parametric surface defined on a parallelogrammic domain. Equivalence proof of the tooth surface geometry is then given in order to greatly simplify the mathematical model. As major factors affecting the lubrication, surface fatigue, contact stress, wear, and manufacturability of gear teeth, the differential geometrical characteristics of the tooth surface are summarized using classical fundamental forms. By using the geometrical properties mentioned, manufacturability (and its limitation in logarithmic spiral bevel gears) is analyzed using precision forging and multiaxis freeform milling, rather than classical cradle-type machine tool based milling or hobbing. Geometry and manufacturability analysis results show that logarithmic spiral gears have many application advantages, but many urgent issues such as contact tooth analysis for precision plastic forming and multiaxis freeform milling also need to be solved in a further study.
One of the main parameters that affect the design of suction caisson-supported offshore structures is uplift behavior. Pull-out of suction caissons is profoundly utilized as the offshore wind turbine foundations accompany by a tensile resistance that is a function of a complex interaction between the caisson dimensions, geometry, wall roughness, soil type, load history, pull-out rate, and many other parameters. In this paper, a parametric study using a 3-D finite element model (FEM) of a single offshore suction caisson (SOSC) surrounded by saturated soil is performed to examine the effect of some key factors on the tensile resistance of the suction bucket foundation. Among the aforementioned parameters, caisson geometry and uplift loading as well as the difference between the tensile resistance and suction pressure on the behavior of the soil-foundation system including tensile capacity are investigated. For this purpose, a full model including 3-D suction caisson, soil, and soil-structure interaction (SSI) is developed in Abaqus based on the u-p formulation accounting for soil displacement (u) and pore pressure, P.The dynamic responses of foundations are compared and validated with the known results from the literature. The paper has focused on the effect of geometry change of 3-D SOSC to present the soil-structure interaction and the tensile capacity. Different 3-D caisson models such as triangular, pentagonal, hexagonal, and octagonal are employed. It is observed that regardless of the caisson geometry, by increasing the uplift loading rate, the tensile resistance increases. More specifically, it is found that the resistance to pull-out of the cylinder is higher than the other geometries and this geometry is the optimum one for designing caissons.
