  • The critical speed of railway bogie related to the stability of the railway rolling-stock is important. Testing of the dynamic performance of bogie is conducted using a roller rig in a laboratory in place of field testing on track. This roller rig is composed of two rollers equivalent to track and used to test the dynamic characteristics of vehicle. But, the geometrical characteristics of the wheel/roller contact on the roller rig are different from those of the wheel/rail contact because the longitudinal radius of roller is not infinite compared with rail. This difference has influence on the wheelset behavior and the critical speed of bogie. Therefore in this paper, we have studied the behavior of wheelset and bogie on the roller rig for railway bogie testing with the purpose of developing the scaled roller rig. As an analysis results, it has been shown that the critical speed of bogie on the roller rig is slightly lower than that of bogie on track.

  • This paper proposed a new 2D multibody dynamic modeling technique to analyze overriding behavior taking place during train collision. This dynamic model is composed of nonlinear spring, damper and mass by considering the deformable characteristics of carbodies as well as energy absorbing structures and components. By solving this dynamic model of rollingstock, collision energy absorption capacity, acceleration of passenger sections, impact forces applied to interconnecting devices, and overriding displacements can be well estimated. For a case study, we choose KHST (Korean High Speed Train), obtained crush characteristic data of each carbody section from 3D finite element analysis, and established a 2D multibody dynamic model. This 2D dynamic model was suggested to describe the collision behavior of 3D Virtual Testing Model.

  • Investigation on the dynamic behavior of railway bridges has not performed widely to date except high-speed railway bridges. In this study, 3-dimensional model is used for the finite element analysis of plate girder railway bridges. Train loads obtained through statistical approach of the measured true train loads are used. Numerical analysis is carried out about a 18m-span bridge. This result is compared with that of the experimental test of existing plate gilder railway bridge without ballast. The good agreement was obtained through the comparison. Judging from the analysis, resonant speed of diesel locomotive train is about 120km/h. However, the resonance for the other train is not found from the analysis.

  • This study have been performed to investigate the dynamic behavior of the Korean High Speed Train(KHST) during the conceptual design process. This study gets a focus on the analysis of the rigid model, for which the yaw damper layout is modified in a nonlinear limit cycle analysis. In this study, influences of the system parameters such as stiffness of suspension and connection elements as well as damping coefficients were studied and an optimized parameter set is achieved. Throughout the dynamic calculation of KHST on the straight and the curved track, vibration accelerations in car body, ride comforts and wheel rail forces are investigated. Finally the vibration characteristics from rigid car body are compared with those due to the influence of elastic car body.

  • In the cases of high speed railway bridge, dynamic behavior analysis is important because of high passing velocity and moving load at the regular intervals, and the damping ratio is a major element in dynamic behavior analysis. In this paper, damping ratios were estimated by two methods and vibration type sections, and relationship between estimated damping ratio and representative value of bridge vibration. At the results, estimated damping ratio using all time of vibration were more stable then using only free vibration section. And in the case of using extended Kalman filter, estimated damping ratio were trend of growth by growth of representative value of bridge vibration. At last, it was shown that study about reliabilities of estimated damping ratios were need.

  • The influences of high speed train on the dynamic responses of steel composite railway bridges are investigated. The bridge system which has two Ⅰ-girder and several cross beams is modeled with plate and frame elements. With assumption of concrete slabs ate fully connected with steel girders, the offset between slabs and girders is modeled using rigid link. The track system is modeled using beams on elastic foundation theory. And, the TGV train is modeled in 2-dimension considering bouncing and pitching motion. And, braking action of vehicle is considered using speed dependent braking function. To investigate the behavior of bridges due to moving trains, parametric studies are performed.

  • The dynamic behavior of railway bridges originates from dynamic properties of various spans and structural types. As a result, the exact estimation of dynamic properties of the railway bridge can produce the exact estimations of dynamic performances of the railway bridge. The damping ratio affects the dynamic reponses of the railway bridge in the vicinity of the critical speed seriously. Eurocode, National Annex of each European country and Japan have their own specification for the damping ratio for the estimation of dynamic performance of railway bridges. In our case, the specification for Honam high speed railways follows the Eurocode. In the present study, for the verification and regulation of the damping ratio and investigation of various dynamic properties, modal tests of various structural types are performed. In addition, for the investigation of effects of track structures on the dynamic property of the bridge, ballast track and concrete track are installed and tested.

  • This paper presents analysis, design and simulation for the indirect field orientation control (IFOC) of induction machine drive system. The dynamic performance of the IFOC under nominal and detuned parameters of the induction machine is established. A conventional proportional plus integral-derivative (PI-D) two-degree-of-freedom controller (2DOFC) is designed and analysed for an ideal IFOC induction machine drive at nominal parameters with the desired dynamic response. Varying the induction machine parameters causes a degredation in the dynamic response for disturbance rejection and tracking performance with PI-D 2DOF speed controller. Therefore, conventional controllers can nut meet a wide range of speed tracking performance under parameter variations. To achieve high- dynamic performance, a proposed robust fuzzy logic controllers (RFLC) for d-axis rotor flux, d-q axis stator currents and rotor speed have been designed and analysed. These controllers provide robust tracking and disturbance rejection performance when detuning occurres and improve the dynamic behavior. The proposed REL controllers provide a fast and accurate dynamic response in tracking and disturbance rejection characteristics under parameter variations. Computer simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed REL controllers and a robust performance is obtained fur IFOC induction machine drive system.

  • In this paper a complicated structural behavior in collision and its effect of energy transmission to the collision bulkhead was examined through a methodology of the numerical simulation to obtain a ideal bow construction and a location of collision bulkhead against heat on collision. At present the bow structure is normally designed in consideration of its specific structural arrangement and internal and external loads in these areas such as hydrostatic and dynamic pressure wave impact and bottom slamming in accordance with the Classification rules and the specific location of collision bulkhead by SOLAS requirement. By these studies the behavior of the bow collapse due to collision was synthetically evaluated for the different size of tankers and its operational speed limits and by the results of these simulation it provides the optimal design concept for the bow construction to prevent the subsequent plastic deformation onto or near to the collision bulkhead boundary and to determine the rational location of collision bulkhead.
