  • Maglev vehicles, which are levitated and propelled by electromagnets, often run on elevated guideways comprised of steel, aluminum and concrete. Therefore, an analysis .of the dynamic interaction between the Maglev vehicle and the guideway is needed in the design of the critical speed, ride, controller design and weight reduction of the guideway. This study proposes a dynamic interaction simulation technique using a flexible beam model based on multi-body dynamics. The vehicle and the elevated guideway are represented as a multi-body dynamics model and a two-dimensional flexible beam, respectively. The proposed model was applied to an urban transit Maglev vehicle, UTM01, which is undergoing test drive. As a result of the proposed method, we concluded that it is possible to analyze the dynamic interaction between the Maglev vehicle and the guideway.

  • The stability and dynamic performance of a flapper-nozzle servo valve depend on several factors, such as the motion of the armature component and the deformation of the spring tube. As the only connection between the armature component and the fixed end, the spring tube plays a decisive role in the dynamic response of the entire system. Aiming at predicting the vibration characteristics of the servo valves to combine them with the control algorithm, an innovative dynamic stiffness based on a distributed parameter model (DPM) is proposed that can reflect the dynamic deformation of the spring tube and a suitable discrete method is applied according to the working condition of the spring tube. With the motion equation derived by DPM, which includes the impact of inertia, damping, and stiffness force, the mathematical model of the spring tube dynamic stiffness is established. Subsequently, a suitable program for this model is confirmed that guarantees the simulation accuracy while controlling the time consumption. Ultimately, the transient response of the spring tube is also evaluated by a finite element method (FEM). The agreement between the simulation results of the two methods shows that dynamic stiffness based on DPM is suitable for predicting the transient response of the spring tube.

  • Real-Time Traversability should be analyzed from the equiped sensors' data in real time for autonomous outdoor navigation. However, it is difficult to find out such traversability that considers the terrain roughness and the vehicle dynamics especially in case of skid type vehicle. The traversability based on real time dynamic analysis was proposed to solve such problem but in navigation with strait driving path. To adapt the method into the navigation with curved driving path, a path following controller should be incorporated into the dynamic model even though it cause the real time problem. In this paper, a dynamic model is proposed to solve the real time problem in the traversability analysis based on real time dynamic simualtion. The dynamic model contains the control dummy which is connected to the vehicle body with a universal joint to follow the curved path without controller. Simulation and experimental results on $6{\times}6$ articulated unmanned ground vehicle demonstrate the method's effectiveness and applicability into the traversability analysis on terrain with bumps.

  • In this study, an analysis technique using simple beam model for predicting structure crashworthiness of the passenger car side impacted with an angle by another passenger car was investigated. The simple model was composed of major beam-like side structure which carry almost all side impact load. A procedure of component collapse test, calculation of load carrying capability and dynamic simulation was carryed out sequentially. Transient dynamic algorithms and a computer program to simulate deformations and motions of the impacted car was developed. The developed procedure was applied to a 3 door passenger car side impacted with an angle of 75 degree and the analysis results show good agreements with the actual test results.

  • This paper presents a fault detection and diagnosis methodologies based on weighted symptom model and pattern matching between the coming fault propagation trend and the simulated one. At the first step, backward chaining is used to find the possible cause candidates for the faults. The weighted symptom model(WSM) is used to generate those candidates. The weight is determined from dynamic simulation. Using WSMs, the methodology can generate the cause candidates and rank them according to the probability. Secondly, the fault propagation trends identified from the partial or complete sequence of measurements are compared to the standard fault propagation trends stored a priori. A pattern matching algorithm based on a number of triangular episodes is used to effectively match those trends. The standard trends have been generated using dynamic simulation and stored a priori. The proposed methodology has been illustrated using two case studies and showed satisfactory diagnostic resolution.

  • The dynamic response of crossing tunnels under heavy-haul train loads is still not fully understood. In this study, based on the case of a high-speed tunnel underneath an existing heavy-haul railway tunnel, a model experiment was performed to research the dynamic response characteristics of crossing tunnels. It is found that the under-crossing changes the dynamic response of the existing tunnel and surrounding rock. The acceleration response of the existing tunnel enhances, and the dynamic stress of rock mass between crossing tunnels decreases after the excavation. Both tunneling and the excitation of heavy-haul train loads stretch the tunnel base, and the maximum tensile strain is 18.35 µε in this model test. Then, the measured results were validated by numerical simulation. Also, a parametric study was performed to discuss the influence of the relative position between crossing tunnels and the advanced support on the dynamic behavior of the existing tunnel, where an amplifying coefficient of tunnel vibration was introduced to describe the change in acceleration due to tunneling. These results reveal the dynamic amplifying phenomenon of the existing tunnel during the new tunnel construction, which can be referred in the dynamic design of crossing tunnels.

  • High turbid water in the River has been one of the major concerns to the downstream residence. Especially in the Nakdong River basin severe turbid water problem occurred in year 2002 and 2003 due to the typhoon Rusa and Maemi consecutively. The main objective of this study is to develop turbid water management system in reservoir downstream of the Nakdong River combining physically based semi-distributed hydrologic simulation model SWAT with 1-dimensional dynamic water quality simulation model. SWAT model covers the area from the upstream of the Imha and Andong reservoir to the Gumi gage station for the purpose of estimating flow rates and suspended sediment of the tributaries. From year 1999 to 2007 runoff simulation for 8 years $R_{eff}$ and $R^2$ ranges $0.46{\sim}0.9$, $0.54{\sim}0.99$ respectively. Through the linkage of models, outputs of SWAT model such as suspended sediment and flow rates of the tributaries can be incorporated into the 1-dimensional dynamic water quality simulation model, KoRiv1 to support joint reservoir operation considering the turbidity released from Imha and Andong reservoir. The applicability of model simulation has been tested for year 2006 and compared with measured data.

  • The hydraulic energy regnerative brake systems is introduced in this work. An accumulator stores kinetic energy during braking action, and the stored energy is used in a following acceleration action. The dynamic model of the brake system is derived for computer simulation study, and the Runge-Kutta numerical integration method is applied to the simulation work. Since the model contains several unknown parameters, these were determined by data which had been proceeded. Through a series of computer simulation , dynamic performance of the energy regenerative brake system is compared with that of a conventional system in which a conventional brake circuit is used. A series of test is carried out in the laboratory. The dynamic characteristics of the hydraulic motor system, such as the surge pressure and response time, are investigated in both brake action and acceleration action.

  • The purpose of this study is to find the effective dynamic characteristics of an improved pneumatic cushion cylinder with a spring type needle valve. The dynamic model represented the peak pressure control method when the pneumatic cushion cylinder is moving forward or backward in the horizontal direction. It was found from the simulation results that the peak pressure in the cushion chamber is affected by the spring, which helps to understand the performance of the pneumatic cushion cylinder and to improve or design a better cushion needle valve component. From the simulation results, the stability of pneumatic cushion cylinder with a spring type needle valve was superior and its cushion capability was also better than that without the spring.

  • This paper describes controller design and simulation-model development of a dynamic voltage compensator using series and shunt inverters. The control system was designed using PI controller and vector relationship between the supply voltage and load voltage. A simulation model with EMTP was developed to analyze performance of the controller and the whole system. The simulation and experiment results confirm that the dynamic compensator can restore the load voltage under the fault of the distribution system, such as single-line-ground fault, three-line-to-ground fault, and line-to-line fault.
