  • An a priori test has been conducted for the dynamic mixed model which was generalized for the prediction of passive scalar field in a turbulent channel flow The results from a priori tests indicated that dynamic mixed model is capable of predicting both subgrid-scale heat flux and dissipation rather accurately. The success is attributed to the explicitly calculated resolved term incorporated into the model. The actual test of the model in a LES a posteriori showed that dynamic mixed model is superior to the widely used dynamic Smagorinsky model in the prediction of temperature statistics.

  • Turbulent temperature field in a channel with wall injection has been investigated using dynamic mixed model(DMM). This flow is pertinent to internal flows inside the hybrid rocket motors. In general, the results obtained with DMM are in better agreement with DNS results compared to those of dynamic Smagorinsky model(DSM). Such favorable features of DMM are attributed to the fact that it explicitly calculates the modified Leonard stress term which takes care of the local interaction between resolved and SGS stresses and only models the remaining cross and SGS Reynolds stress terms.

  • A mathematical model for a dynamic capacitate facility location problem is formulated by a mixed integer problem. The objective of the model is to minimize total discounted costs that include fixed charges and distributed costs. The Cross Decomposition method of Van Roy is extended and applied to solve the dynamic capacitated facility location problem. The method unifies Benders Decomposition and Lagrangean relaxation into a single framework. It successively solves a transportation problem and a dynamic uncapacitated facility location problem as two subproblems. Computational results are compared with those of general mixed integer programming.

  • In order to model a connection part between a control fin and actuator, the related characteristics of a dynamic stiffness were extracted from experiments. These characteristics include the static stiffness of a control fin and the dynamic stiffness of an actuator, so they are called the mixed dynamic stiffness here. This mixed dynamic stiffness is used as the boundary condition of a control fin connected to an actuator when the flutter characteristics are analyzed. The simulated stiffness of an actuator is corrected from the experiment results and the mixed dynamic is finally formulated in the domain of frequencies.

  • The dynamic mixed model (DMM) combined with a box filter of Zang et. al. (1993) has been generalized for passive scalar transport and applied to large eddy simulation of turbulent channel flows with Prandtl number up to 10. Results from a priori test showed that DMM is capable of predicting both subgrid-scale (SGS) scalar flux and dissipation rather accurately for the Prandtl numbers considered. This would suggest that the favorable feature of DMM, originally developed for the velocity field, works equally well for scalar transport problem. The validity of the DMM has also been tested a posteriori. The results of the large eddy simulation showed that DMM is superior to the dynamic Smagorinsky model in the prediction of scalar field and the model performance of DMM depends to a lesser degree on the ratio of test to grid filter widths, unlike in the a priori test.

  • In this paper, dynamic buckling of truncated conical shell made of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) composite is studied. In aerospace industries, this category of structures is utilized extensively due to wide range of engineering applications. To calculate the effective material properties of the nanocomposite, The Mori-Tanaka model is applied. Also, the motion equations are derived with the assistance of the first order shear deformation theory (FSDT), Hamilton's principle and energy method. Besides, In order to solve motion equations and analyze dynamic instability region (DIR) of the structure, mixed model of differential quadrature method (DQM) and Bolotin's method is used. Moreover, investigation of the different parameters effects such as geometrical parameters and volume fraction of CNTs on the analysis of the DIR of the structure is done. In accordance with the obtained results, the DIR will occur at higher frequencies by increasing the volume fraction of CNTs.

  • The hydraulic design optimization and performance analysis of mixed-flow pumps for waterjet marine vehicle propulsion has been carried out using mean streamline analysis and three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code. In the present study, the conceptual design optimization has been formulated with a non-linear objective function to minimize the fluid dynamic losses, and then the commercial CFD code was incorporated to allow for detailed flow dynamic phenomena in the pump system. Newly designed mixed-flow model pump has been tested in the laboratory. Predicted performance curves by the CFD code agree very well with experimental data for a newly designed mixed-flow pump over the normal operating conditions. The design and prediction method presented herein can be used efficiently as a unified hydraulic design process of mired-flow pumps for waterjet marine vehicle propulsion.
