  • This paper addresses the analytical modeling and dynamic response of the advanced composite rotating blade modeled as thin-walled beams and incorporating viscoelastic material. The blade model incorporates non-classical features such as anisotropy, transverse shear, rotary inertia and includes the centrifugal and coriolis force fields. The dual technology including structural tailoring and passive damping technology is implemented in order to enhance the vibrational characteristics of the blade. Whereas structural tailoring methodology uses the directionality properties of advanced composite materials, the passive material technology exploits the damping capabilities of viscoelastic material (VEM) embedded into the host structure. The VEM layer damping treatment is modeled by using the Golla-Hughes-McTavish (GHM) method, which is employed to account for the frequency-dependent characteristics of the VEM. The case of VEM spread over the entire span of the structure is considered. The displayed numerical results provide a comprehensive picture of the synergistic implications of both techniques, namely, the tailoring and damping technology on the dynamic response of a rotating thin-walled b ε am exposed to external time-dependent excitations.

  • The dynamic bending response of single walled carbon nanotube reinforced composite (SWCNTRC) plates subjected to hygro-thermo-mechanical loading are investigated in this paper. The mechanical load is considered as wind pressure for dynamic bending responses of SWCNTRC plate. The dynamic version of the High Order shear deformation Theory (HSDT) for a composite plate with Matrix and SWCNTRC plate is first formulated. Distribution of fibers through the thickness of the SWCNTRC plate could be uniform or functionally graded (FG). The dynamic displacement response is predicted by using Nemarck integration method. The effective material properties of SWCNTRC are estimated by using micromechanics based modeling approach. The effect of different environmental condition, volume fraction of SWCNT, Width-to-thickness ratio, wind pressure, different SWCNTRC-FG plates, boundary condition, E1/E2 ratio, different temperature on dynamic displacement response is investigated. The dynamic displacement response is compared with the available literature and it shows good agreement.

  • This paper is dedicated to the thermoelastic modeling and dynamic response of the rotating blades made of functionally graded ceramic-metal based materials. The blades modeled as non-uniform thin walled beams fixed at the hub with various selected values of setting angles and pre-twisted angles. In this study, the blade is rotating with a constant angular velocity and exposed to a steady temperature field as well as external excitation. Moreover, the effect of the temperature gradient through the blade thickness is considered. Material properties are graded in the thickness direction of the blade according to the volume fraction power law distribution. The numerical results highlight the effects of the volume fraction, temperature gradient, taper ratio, setting angle and pre-twisted angle on the dynamic response of bending-bending coupled beam characteristics are provided for the case of a biconvex cross section and pertinent conclusions are outlined.

  • In this study, Pb(La Ce)$TiO_3$ composition ceramics were manufactured for 20 MHz resonator application. Electromechanical coupling factor, mechanical quality factor and dynamic range of thickness vibration mode were measured as the variations of L/T(length/thickness) ratio of ceramic substrats. Mechanical quality factor and dynamic range of third overtone thickness vibration mode showed the highest value of 2,773 and 52.22 dB at specimen S4(l/t=12), respectively. The excellent temperature stability of resonant frequency suitable for resonator application was shown, regardless of thermal shock.

  • This paper describes a study of the collision of hard steel spheres against aluminium thin circular plates at speeds up to 140 m/s. The tests were monitored by a high speed camera and a chronoscope, which allowed the determination of the ballistic limit and the plate deformation pattern. Quasi-static material parameters were obtained from tests on a universal testing machine and dynamic mechanical characterization of two aluminium alloys were conducted in a split Hopkinson pressure bar. Using a damage model, the perforation of the plates was simulated by finite element analysis. Axisymmetric, shell and solid elements were employed with various parameters of the numerical analysis being thoroughly discussed, in special, the dynamic model parameters. A good agreement between experiments and the numerical analysis was obtained.

  • The interest in the dynamic properties of soils has increased strongly because of earthquake, heavy traffic, and foundations undergo high amplitude of vibrations. Most of soils in Korean peninsula are composed of granite soils, especially the decomposed mudstone soils are widely spread in Pohang areas, Kyong-buk province. Therefore, it Is very important to investigate the dynamic properties of these types of soils. The most important soil parameters under dynamic loadings are shear modulus and material dampings. Furthermore, few definitive data exist that can evaluate the behavior of unsaturated decomposed mudstone soils under dynamic loading conditions. The investigations described in this paper is designed to identify the shear modulus and damping ratio due to a surface tension for the unsaturated decomposed mudstone soils ulder low and high strain amplitude, For this purpose, the resonant column test and the cyclic triaxial test were performed. Test results and data have shown that the optimum degree of saturation under low and strain amplitude is 32 ∼ 37% which is higher than that of decomposed granite due to the amount of fine particles as well as the type and proportion of chief rock-forming minerals.

  • Crack-controlled method which utilizes the dynamic energy such as explosives and propellent gases have been applied to the development of mineral resource and oil and civil engineering. It is necessary to consider the fracture processes associated with the material properties and external forces to control crack propagation using borehole pressure. To investigate the influence of the applied borehole pressure waveform on the crack propagation in rock masses having different material properties, a no-free surface model was used, consisting of a borehole in rock with a continuous boundary. Loading rates ranging from 1 to 100MPa/${\mu}s$ with different rock mass properties was employed to investigate the loading rate dependency of fracture patterns in the rock mass.

  • This paper studies the static and dynamic characteristics of composite plates subjected to an arbitrary periodic load in hygrothermal environments. The material properties of composite plates are depended on the temperature and moisture. The governing equations of motion of Mathieu-type are established by using the Galerkin method with reduced eigenfunction transforms. A periodic load is taken to be a combination of axial pulsating load and bending stress in the example problem. The regions of dynamic instability of laminated composite plates are determined by solving the eigenvalue problems based on Bolotin's method. The effects of temperature rise and moisture concentration on the dynamic instability of laminated composite plates are investigated and discussed. The influences of various parameters on the instability region and dynamic instability index are also investigated. The numerical results reveal that the influences of hygrothermal effect on the dynamic instability of laminated plates are significant.

  • As the vibration loads are variable and the design criteria are more strict, in this study, the dynamic characteristics of the slab is analyzed and the and the vibration is controlled for the special peculiarity of structures. First, the procedure of dynamic analysis is developed by the finite element method and then examined by using the slab model tests. Second, in order to improve the dynamic characteristics, the effects of the number of supports, material properties, position of exciting force, added mass and dynamic balance on the dynamic behavior of reinforced concrete slabs are analysed. It is concluded that the vibration can be controlled by the change in the natural frequency of system and the use of the high-strength concrete or polymer impregnated concrete (PIC), and the dynamic characteristics can be considerably affected by the arrangement of equipments, added mass, and dynamic balance, etc.
