  • The impact behavior of TFT-LCD module is very complicated because the module is assisted with three parts such as back light unit, LCD Panel and top chassis. Especially, the back light unit is constructed with several small and thin parts made by plastics or steels. The design of the back light unit is very important because the recent demand is more lighter, thinner and narrower module. The aim of the present study is the investigation of mechanical characteristics during impact loading. The back light unit must assist TFT-LCD Panel made by glass and guide qualification of handling environment. This paper focus on the dynamic behavior of module and carries out a series of computer simulation using LS-DYNA program. Comparing with test results previously performed, dynamic characteristics of TFT-LCD module are estimated.

  • The open deck steel bridge is the most common type in railway bridges. Steel I-shaped girders are connected with sleepers directly without ballast and moving train loads are transmitted directly to the girder, so this bridge has weak characteristics on impact. Therefore, considerable accelerations can cause unsatisfactory dynamic behavior of the open deck steel bridge. Especially, Impact created at rail joints can increase the dynamic response of the bridge and this phenomenon would be injurious to passenger comfort. In the present study, dynamic behavior of the open deck steel bridge which has a rail joint is estimated through experimental studies and bridge-train interaction analysis considering surface irregularities by rail joints.

  • In this study, the impact problems are brought up and the formulation by isoparametric element is attempted for the purpose of analyzing the response characteristics of laminated plate receiving impact load based on the first-order shear deformation theory expanded from the Mindlin plate theory. The result of static analysis and dynamic analysis is drawn through the numerical analysis rectangular and circular plates of antisymmetric Angle-Ply laminated plate using the finite element method and the analysis on each displacement is compared.

  • TFT-LCD module with thin, small and layered structure makes its shock analysis very difficult and complicated. As TFT-LCD becomes more thinner, it is more difficult to assure its required shock resistance. Recently, the drop/impact simulation using the commercial explicit dynamic analysis software such as LS-DYNA3D is actively applied to assess the shock characteristics of TFT-LCD. In this study, the effects of analysis parameters and design modifications in the drop/impact simulation are carefully studied. the reliability of the present analysis results can be assured through the experimental verification.

  • The modal analysis based on deformations is the method to drived dynamic responsed from superposition of natural frequency and mode shape. In order to free vibration analysis of the structures, Aluminum-made model is used in experiment. The dynamic characteristic of the structures are determined from acceleration measurements using impulse hammer. Experimenrt input and output signal are derive from impact hammer and the one accerometer. This paper present three methods for calculating the natural frequencies and mode shapes of the structure with theory value and finite element analysis, experiment. The results were good approximated about natural frequency and mode shape.

  • The fundamental reason for gear noise is transmission error. Transmission error occurs because of STE (static transmission error) and DTE (dynamic transmission error), while a pair of gears is meshing. These errors are generated by the deflection of the teeth and the friction on the surface of the teeth. In addition, the vibration generated by transmission error leads to excited bearings. The bearings support the shafts, and the noise is radiated after exciting the gear casing. The analysis of the contact stress in helical gear tooth flanks indicates that it is due to impact loading, such as the sudden engagement and disengagement of a gear. Stress analysis is performed for different roll positions, in order to determine the most critical roll angle. Dynamic analysis is performed on this critical roll position, in order to evaluate variation in stresses and tooth contact force, with respect to time. In this study, transmission error analysis was implemented on a spur and helical gear with involute geometry and a modified geometry profile. In addition, in order to evaluate the intensity of impact due to sudden engagement and significant backlash, the impact factor was calculated using the finite element analysis results of static and dynamic maximum bending stresses.

  • This paper proposed a new impact equation by analyzing the form of the proposal section 1 and section 2 proposed by Korea Highway Corporation, F-type, NJ-type and SS-type with HVOSM program Because the impact equation proposed by Ministry Construction & Transportation(1992) considered an only impact velocity, the values of impact loads calculated by HVOSM program are 21.5∼44 times as large as those using equation of MCT. The values of HVOSM program are 1.4 times as large as those of Olson's model because Olson's equation consider impact vehicle, impact velocity and impact angle. But, it does not consider geometric characters, while HVOSM program considers characters. Considering the shapes of sections and the conditions of colliding, HVOSM program can calculate imuact load. As Multiple Regression Analysis is conducted with the calculated values, the R² values of the proposed equations are 0.984 in SB1∼SB3 and 0.958 in SB4∼SB6. After all, the equation proposed in this study have better results than Olson's equation.

  • The importance of cost reduction has grown bigger to ensure the competetive power of products in the electric home appliances industry. Thus, it is necessary to assess the reliability due to drop-impact happenning in process of distribution of microwave ovens with the panel and cavity of thinner thickness for cost reduction. In the present study, the drop/impact simulation using the explicit code LS-DYNA3D has been carried out for improving the impact resistance of a microwave oven. This CAE-based design approach can be successfully applied to enhance the deteriorated dynamic behavior under the impact conditions of dropping height 70cm according to ISTA procedure 2A.

  • An analytical method is presented to solve the elastodynamic problem of finitely long hollow cylinder subjected to torsional impact often occurs in engineering mechanics. The analytical solution is composed of a solution of quasi-static equation satisfied with the non-homogeneous boundary condition and a solution of dynamic equation satisfied with homogeneous boundary condition. The quasi-static solution is obtained directly by solving the quasi-static equation satisfied with the non-homogeneous boundary condition. The solution of the non-homogeneous dynamic equation is obtained by means of finite Hankel transform on the radial variable, r, Laplace transform on time variable, t, and finite Fourier transform on axial variable, z. Thus, the solution for finitely long, hollow cylinder subjected to torsion impact is obtained. In the calculating examples, the response histories and distributions of shear stress in the finitely long hollow cylinder subjected to an exponential decay torsion load are obtained, and the results have been analyzed and discussed. Finally, a dynamic finite element for the same problem is carried out by using ABAQUS finite element analysis. Comparing the analytical solution with the finite element solution, it can be found that two kinds of results obtained by means of two different methods agree well. Therefore, it is further concluded that the analytical method and computing process presented in the paper are effective and accurate.

  • An aircraft impact (AI) on a nuclear power plant (NPP) is considered to be a beyond-design-basis event that draws considerable attention in the nuclear field. As some NPPs have already adopted the seismic isolation technology, and there are relevant standards to guide the application of this technology in future NPPs, a new challenge is that nuclear power engineers have to determine a reasonable method for performing AI analysis of base-isolated NPPs. Hence, dynamic influences of the seismic isolation on the vibration and structural damage characteristics of the base-isolated CPR1000 containment are studied under various aircraft loads. Unlike the seismic case, the impact energy of AI is directly impacting on the superstructure. Under the coupled influence of the seismic isolation and the various AI load, the flexible isolation layer weakens the constraint function of the foundation on the superstructure, the results show that the seismic isolation bearings will produce a large horizontal deformation if the AI load is large enough, the acceleration response at the base-mat will also be significantly affected by the different horizontal stiffness of the isolation bearing. These concerns require consideration during the design of the seismic isolation system.
