  • Role-Based Access Control(RBAC) security policy is being widely accepted not only as an access control policy for information security but as both a natural modeling tool for management structure of organizations and flexible permission management framework in various commercial environments. Important functions provided by the current RBAC model are to administrate the information on the components of RBAC model and determine whether user's access request to information is granted or not, and most researches on RBAC are for defining the model itself, describing it in formal method and other important properties such as separation of duty. As the current RBAC model which does not define the definition, design and operation for applications is not suitable for automated information systems that consist of various applications, it is needed that how applications should be designed and then executed based on RBAC security model. In this paper, we describe dynamic properties of session which is taken for a passive entity only activated by users, as a vehicle for building and executing applications in an automated information systems. And, a framework for session-oriented separation of duty property, application design and operation is also presented.

  • Clutch energy is the thermal energy dissipated on the clutch disc, and it reaches its highest level during drive-off as a result of the difference between the angular speeds of the flywheel and clutch disc, and the torque transmitted. The thermal energy dissipated effects the clutch life. This study presents a new drive-off and thermal model to calculate the clutch energy for a rear wheel driven heavy-duty vehicle and to analyze the effects of clutch energy on temperatures of clutch pressure plate, flywheel and clutch housing. Three different driver profiles are used, based on the release of the clutch pedal in modulation zone: i) the pedal travels with the same speed all the way, ii) the travel speed of the pedal increases, iii) the travel speed of the pedal decreases. Vehicle test is performed to check the accuracy of the model. When compared to a simpler model that is widely used in the literature to calculate the clutch energy, the model used in this study calculates the clutch energy and angular speed behaviors of flywheel and transmission input shaft in better agreement with experimental results. Clutch wear and total clutch life are also estimated using the mean specific friction power.

  • In this study, a three-dimensional transient simulation with a knock model was performed to predict knock occurrence and autoignition site in a heavy-duty LPG engine. A FAE (Flame Area Evolutoin) premixed combustion model was applied to simulate flame propagation. The coefficient of the reduced kinetic model was adjusted to LPG fuel and used to simulate autoignition in the unburned gas region. Engine experiments using a single-cylinder research engine were performed to calibrate the reduced kinetic model and to verify the results of the modeling. A pressure transducer and a head-gasket type ion-probe circuit board were installed in order to detect knock occurrences, flame arrival angles, and autoignition sites. Knock occurrence and position were compared for different piston bowl shapes. The simulation concurred with engine experimental data regarding the cylinder pressure, flame arrival angle, knock occurrence, and autoignition site. Furthermore, it provided much information about in-cylinder phenomena and solutions that might help reducing the knocking tendency. The knock simulation model presented in this paper can be used for a development tool of engine design.

  • DC-DC converter with chopper is seen to have problems, such as, loop instability and degradation of transient response, due to the interaction between input filter and switching regulator. In this paper, the switching regulator consisting of input filter and double chopper is analyzed, and the state space model at continuous current mode and the transfer function between duty ratio of switching pulse and output voltage are derived. The controller in this paper is designed as feedforward(P) and feedback(PI) control scheme to minimize the variation of output voltage, and computer simulation results are presented to show the performance of the proposed controller.

  • This paper introduces a simple grid-voltage-sensorless control scheme for single-phase power factor correction (PFC) boost converters. The grid voltage waveform is obtained based on the dc output voltage, the switching duty ratio, and a phase-lead compensator. In addition, the duty ratio feedback is utilized to obtain the unity input power factor and the zero harmonic current. The proposed control scheme is designed and mathematically analyzed based on a small-signal model of PFC boost converters. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme, several simulations and experiments are carried out in two applications: an industrial power system with a 60 Hz grid frequency and a commercial aircraft application with a 400 Hz grid frequency.

  • Finite element analysis was performed to analyze structural safety of a new heavy-duty direct injection diesel engine. A half section of the in-line 6-cylinder engine was selected as a computational domain. A mapping method was used to project heat transfer coefficients from CFD results of engine coolant flow onto the FE model. The accurate setting of thermal boundary condition on the FE model was expected to result in improved prediction of temperature, cylinder bore distortion, and stresses. Characteristics of high cycle fatigue were investigated by assuming the engine was operated under the following five loading conditions repeatedly; assembly force, assembly force with thermal loading, alternating maximum gas pressure loading at each cylinder combined with assembly force and thermal loading. Distribution of fatigue safety factor was calculated by using it Haigh diagram in which the maximum and the minimum stresses were selected from the five loading cases.
