  • An integrated photonic radio frequency (RF) phase shifter has been proposed and fabricated using a nested dual Mach-Zehnder modulator configuration in a new electro-optic polymer. The fabricated device shows a continuous voltage control of the RF signal phase. A near-linear phase shift exceeding 108$^{\circ}$was obtained for a 16-GHz microwave signal by tuning the do control voltage over a 7.8- $V_{pp}$ range.e.

A Dual-Mode 2.4-GHz CMOS Transceiver for High-Rate Bluetooth Systems

  • This paper reports on our development of a dual-mode transceiver for a CMOS high-rate Bluetooth system-onchip solution. The transceiver includes most of the radio building blocks such as an active complex filter, a Gaussian frequency shift keying (GFSK) demodulator, a variable gain amplifier (VGA), a dc offset cancellation circuit, a quadrature local oscillator (LO) generator, and an RF front-end. It is designed for both the normal-rate Bluetooth with an instantaneous bit rate of 1 Mb/s and the high-rate Bluetooth of up to 12 Mb/s. The receiver employs a dualconversion combined with a baseband dual-path architecture for resolving many problems such as flicker noise, dc offset, and power consumption of the dual-mode system. The transceiver requires none of the external image-rejection and intermediate frequency (IF) channel filters by using an LO of 1.6 GHz and the fifth order onchip filters. The chip is fabricated on a $6.5-mm^{2}$ die using a standard $0.25-{\mu}m$ CMOS technology. Experimental results show an in-band image-rejection ratio of 40 dB, an IIP3 of -5 dBm, and a sensitivity of -77 dBm for the Bluetooth mode when the losses from the external components are compensated. It consumes 42 mA in receive ${\pi}/4-diffrential$ quadrature phase-shift keying $({\pi}/4-DQPSK)$ mode of 8 Mb/s, 35 mA in receive GFSK mode of 1 Mb/s, and 32 mA in transmit mode from a 2.5-V supply. These results indicate that the architecture and circuits are adaptable to the implementation of a low-cost, multi-mode, high-speed wireless personal area network.

  • 본 논문에서는 DAB(Dual Active Bridge) 타입의 절연형 양방향 DC/DC 컨버터의 출력전압 제어기법을 제시한다. SPS(Single-phase shift) PWM 기반의 고조파 모델에 대해 슬라이딩 모드 제어기(SMC)를 설계한다. 제시된 기법은 시뮬레이션 결과에 의해 성능이 검증된다.

Design of a Low Phase Noise Voltage Tuned Planar Composite Resonator Oscillator Using SIW Structure (SIW 구조를 이용한 저 위상잡음 전압 제어 평판형 복합공진기 발진기 설계)

  • In this paper, we present a design and implementation of a Voltage-tuned Planar Composite Resonator Oscillator(Vt-PCRO) with a low phase noise. The designed Vt-PCRO is composed of a resonator, two phase shifters, and an amplifier. The resonator is designed using a dual mode SIW(Substrate Integrated Waveguide) resonator and has a group delay of about 40 nsec. Of the two phase shifters (PS1 and PS2), PS1 with a phase shift of $360^{\circ}$ is used for the open loop gain to satisfy oscillation condition without regard to the electrical lengths of the employed microstrip lines in the loop. PS2 with a phase shift of about $70^{\circ}$ is used to tune oscillation frequency. The amplifier is constructed using two stages to compensate for the loss of the open loop. Through the measurement of the open loop gain, the tune voltage of the PS1 can be set to satisfy the oscillation condition and the loop is then closed to form the oscillator. The oscillator with a oscillation frequency of 5.345 GHz shows a phase noise of -130.5 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz frequency offset. The oscillation power and the electrical frequency tuning range is about 3.5 dBm and about 4.2 MHz for a tuning voltage of 0~10 V, respectively.

  • This study proposes a new pulse-width modulation switching pattern for the low conduction loss of a three-level neutral point clamped (NPC)-based dual-active bridge (DAB) converter. The operational principle for a bidirectional power conversion is a phase-shift modulation. The conventional switching method of the three-level NPC-based DAB converter shows a symmetric switching pattern. This method has a disadvantage of high root-mean-square (RMS) value of the coupling inductor current, which leads to high conduction loss. The proposed switching method shows an asymmetrical pattern, which can reduce the RMS value of the inductor current with lower conduction loss than that of the conventional method. The performance of the proposed asymmetrical switching method is theoretically analyzed and practically verified using simulation and experiment.

  • In this paper, a bidirectional three-phase push pull converter is analyzed for the high power, wide voltage range applications. From comparison analysis of two switching methods: PWM plus phase-shift (PPS) and dual-asymmetric PWM (DAPWM) with the effect of dead-time, the proposed hybrid control is aimed to reduce the circulating current under wide voltage range operation. Value of leakage inductance effect to the peak current value, current stress and conduction loss in facing the load variation. Trade-off between power range and slew rate of transformer current was analyzed for properly selecting value of the transformer leakage inductance. Experimental results from a 22-kW prototype are provided to validate the proposed concept.

Detection of 10-GHz Optical Single-/Double-Sideband Labels Using Fiber-Optic Interleavers (광섬유 인터리버를 이용한 10-GHz 광 단측파대/양측파대 레이블 검출)

  • Optical subcarrier-multiplexed (OSCM) labels in optical label switching networks have been detected using interleavers composed of fiber-optic Mach-Zehnder interferometer. 10-GHz optical single-/double-sideband signals generated from dual-electrode Mach-Zehnder intensity modulator have been used as the OSCM labels. In the case of single-sideband signals, the upper-sideband was observed to be suppressed about 16.8 dB compared with the lower-sideband from the optical spectrum measured at the label extraction output. For the case of double-sideband signals, both sidebands appeared with small insertion loss at the interleaver output. Since we used the phase-shift method to generate single-sideband signals, the power level of the single-sideband was higher by 3 dB than that of the double-sidebands.

Design of Broadband Corrugated Waveguide Polarizer (광대역 커러게이트 도파관 편파기 설계)

  • In this paper, the design theory of the corrugated polarizer using square waveguide is proposed. In order to analysis the characteristic of square waveguide discontinuity as well as achievement of the low VSWR, we apply the modified $TE^\chi_mn$ mode matching method and the corrugated exponential function to the polarizer design. The results show a broadband characteristic that phase shift angle is nearly appeared $90^{\circ}$ in the range of 11.7-15.8GHz. Especially, we could be designed the Ku-band dual polarizer for the satellite broadcasting transponder with 300MHz bandwidth. Its phase shift angle and maximum VSWR, axial ratio are $90^{\circ},\pm1^{\circ}$, 1.03, and 1.0001 in the range of 11.7-12.0GHz and 14.5-14.8GHz, respectively.

  • A new phase-shifted parallel-input/series-output (PI SO) dual inductor-fed push-pull converter for high-power step­up applications is proposed. This converter is operated at a constant duty cycle and employs an auxiliary circuit to control the output voltage with a phase-shift between the two modules. It features a voltage conversion characteristic which is linear to changes in the control input, and high step-up ratio with a greatly reduced switch turn-off stress resulting in a significant increase in the converter efficiency. It also shows a low ripple content and low root-mean-square (RMS) current in the output capacitor. The operational principle is analyzed and a comparative analysis with the conventional pulse-width-modulated (PWM) PISO dual inductor-fed push-pull converter is presented. A 50kHz, 800W, 350Vdc prototype with an input of 20-32Vdc has also been constructed to validate the proposed converter. The proposed converter compares favorably with the conventional counterpart and is considered well suited to high-power step-up applications.

A Study on Shape Measurement by Using Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry (전자 스페클 패턴 간섭법을 이용한 형상 측정에 관한 연구)

  • Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry(ESPI) has been used to measure surface deformations of engineering components and materials in industrial areas. ESPI, a non-contact and non-destructive technique, is capable of providing full-field results with high spatial resolution and high speed. One of the important application using electronic speckle pattern interferometry is electronic speckle contouring of a diffused object for 3-D shape analysis and topography measurement. Generally the electronic speckle contouring is suitable for providing measurement range from millimeters to several centimeters. In this study, we introduce the contouring method by modified dual-beam speckle pattern interferometer and the shift of the two illumination beams through optical fiber in order to obtain the contour fringe patterns. We also describe formation process of depth contour fringes and grid contour fringes by shifting direction of the two illumination beams. Before the experiments, we performed the geometric analysis for dual-beam-shifted ESPI contouring, and then, the electronic speckle contouring experiment with various specimens. For quantitative analysis of the contour fringes, we used 4-frame phase shifting method with PZT Finally, good agreement between the geometric analysis and experimetal results is obtained.
