  • Synchronization phenomena of chaos observed in a dual-structured system is presented. The system is consisting of two identical piecewise-linear systems and the simple coupling between the two systems enables the synchronization of the chaotic behavior. An application of the proposed dual-structure to a real power system for the parameter value identification is also presented.

A Design of Dual Frequency Bands Time Synchronization System for Synchronized-Pseudolite Navigation System

  • Time synchronization system using dual frequency bands is designed and the error sources are analyzed for alternative synchronized-pseudolite navigation system (S-PNS) which aims at military application. To resolve near/far problem, dual frequency band operation is proposed instead of pulsing transmission which degrades level of reception. In dual frequency operation H/W delay should be considered to eliminate errors caused by inter-frequency bias (IFB) difference between the receivers of the pseudolites and users. When time synchronization is performed across the sea, multipath error is occurred severely since the elevation angle between pseudolites is low so total reflection can be happened. To investigate the difference of multipath effects according to location, pseudolites are set up coastal area and land area and performances are compared. The error source related with tropospheric delay is becoming dominant source as the coverage of the PNS is broadening. The tropospheric delay is measured by master pseudolite receiver directly using own pseudorange and slave pseudorange. Flight test is performed near coastal area using S-PNS equipped with developed time synchronization system and test results are also presented.

Improved time and frequency synchronization for dual-polarization OFDM systems

  • This article presents techniques for improved estimation of symbol timing offset (STO) and carrier frequency offset (CFO) for dual-polarization (DP) orthogonal frequency division multiplex (DP-OFDM) systems. Recently, quaternion multiple-input multiple-output OFDM has been proposed for high spectral efficiency communication systems, which can flexibly explore different types of diversities such as space, time, frequency, and polarization. This article focuses on synchronization techniques for DP-OFDM systems using a cyclic prefix, where the application of quaternion algebra leads to new improved estimators. Simulations performed for DP system methods show faster reduction of STO estimator variance with a double-slope line in the logvariance line versus signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) plot compared with singlepolarization (SP) counterparts, and simulations for CFO estimates show a 3-dB gain of DP over SP estimates for same SNR values defined, respectively, for quaternion-valued or complex-valued signals. Cramer-Rao bounds for STO and CFO are derived for the synchronization methods, correlating with the observed gains of DP over SP OFDM systems.

  • Improvement in the control strategy for continuous casting is a crucial requirement to enhance the slab's quality and to increase productivity. The mold oscillator adopts the dual cylinders due to its heavy weight, so the synchronized motion of two cylinders is an important aspect when precise control is needed. The conventional method uses the master-slave control applied to the valve input reference, but the synchronization performance should still be improved. This paper proposes a novel synchronization algorithm for dual cylinders used in a mold oscillator. The master-slave concept is applied to the target reference position, that is, the slave target reference position is controlled to match the slave cylinder's position with the master cylinder's position. In the simulation based on a Simulink model, the proposed algorithm shows a better synchronization performance in aspect of the mean of the absolute error and the peak synchronization error.

  • In this paper, the modified Usage Parameter Control(UPC) method based on Dual Leaky Bucket algorithm is proposed to improve the perfor mance of multimedia synchronization and to control burst traffic. In the proposed algorithm, Synchronous cells are by passed to the 2nd stage Leaky Bucket (LB) of the DLB. for overloaded traffic condition, the violated cells are saved in a temporary buffer and they are retransmitted when the 2nd stage bucket is empty.

  • In this paper, we propose a new fault tolerant architecture for high availability systems, where for module internal operations both processor modules perform the same tasks at the same time independently of each other while for module external operations both processor modules act actively. That is, operations of synchronization between dual processor modules except clock synchronization are requested only when module external operations are executed. The architecture can not only improve system availability by reducing system reintegration time but also reduce performance degradation problem due to frequent synchronization between dual processor modules. The clock unit consists of a clock generator and a clock synchronization circuit. This supplies a stable clock signal under clock unit disorder of any processor module or rapid clock signal variation. And this architecture achieves system availability and data credibility by designing as symmetrical form.

  • NG-SDH 시스템은 광케이블 통하여 연결된 네트워크이다. 네트워크 동기제어기는 광전송시스템에서 데이터 동기에서 필수적이다. 본 논문에서 SOPC(system on a programmable chip) 설계 기술을 활용하여 네트워크 동기제어기를 설계한다. 설계를 위해 Altera사의 FPGA를 활용하고, FPGA안에는 32Bit CPU, DPRAM(dual port ram), 디지털 입출력포트, 송신 및 수신 프레이머, 위상차 검출기 등이 포함되어있다. 설계된 네트워크 동기제어기는 ITU-T G. 813에서 권고하는 동기기준(일시적인 응답에서의 MTIE, 원더 특성시 MTIE 및 TDEV, Holdover시 MTIE)을 만족함을 확인할 수 있다.

  • In this paper, a synchronization control technique of dual-servo motor driven press system is proposed. An independent cascade PID control technique has been applied to the conventional press system for advancement of control stability. However, it is not easy to reduce synchronous error using the independent cascade PID control technique when some different load disturbances are involved in each motor. The eccentric error of the slide caused by the problem degrade the control performance of the BDC(Bottom Dead Center). In order to achieve reduction of the synchronous error between two servo motors and accurate position control simultaneously, a new control scheme comprised with cascade PID control loop and cross-coupling loop is proposed. In simulation using Matlab SIMULINK, the AC servo system is designed. The control performance of proposed technique is compared with conventional control technique to the model of AC servo system. Also, the sub-scale model of dual-servo motor driven press system which can replicate the slide motion is constructed for experimental verification for the performance of the proposed control technique. The cross-coupling control technique reveals more precise and stable performances in the position and synchronization controls.

3D 입체 영상 시스템에서 신뢰도를 활용한 듀얼 모드 실시간 동기 에러 검출 및 보상 방법 (A Real-time Dual-mode Temporal Synchronization and Compensation based on Reliability Measure in Stereoscopic Video)

  • 본 논문에서는 3D 입체 영상시스템에서 신뢰도를 활용한 듀얼모드 실시간 동기에러 검출 및 보상방법을 제안한다. 3D 입체영상시스템의 동기오차 보상은 좌-우 영상시퀀스에서 동기오차를 검출하고, 검출된 동기오차만큼 보상하는 것이다. 3D 입체 영상시스템의 좌-우 동기 오차를 검출하는 알고리즘의 결과는 3D 입체 영상 콘텐츠에 따라서 그 동기에러 검출 결과의 정확도가 달라지는 문제점이 있다. 3D 입체 영상시스템의 동기 오차 검출을 위해 좌-우 영상의 페어 프레임 검출이 모든 3D 입체 콘텐츠의 영상에서 용이하지 않기 때문에 콘텐츠의 종류에 따라서 동기 에러 검출 알고리즘을 선별적으로 적용하는 방법이 필요하고, 동기 에러 검출의 결과를 신뢰할 수 있는 방법도 필요하다. 본 논문에서 활용하고자 하는 듀얼 모드 동기 에러 검출 알고리즘은 선행 연구[1]에서 새롭게 제안한 시간적 스패시오그램(temporal spatiogram) 방법과 기존의 텍스쳐 매칭(texture matching) 방법을 활용하였다. 동기에러 검출 결과에 대한 신뢰도를 측정하기 위해서 컨텐츠의 동적 특성(dynamics)과 구분성(distinction)을 새롭게 정의하였다. 제안된 듀얼 모드 동기 에러 검출 방법과 그 검출 결과에 대한 신뢰도 측정 방법은 다양한 3D 콘텐츠 영상들을 이용하여 실험하였고, 실제 3DTV 시스템에서의 동기 에러 검출 및 보상 실험 시스템에 실시간 구현하여 그 효용성을 입증하였다.
