  • This paper presents a novel circular fractal ring monopole antenna for ultra-wideband (UWB) hardware with dual band-notched properties. The proposed antenna consists of four crescent-shaped nested rings, a tapered feeding line at the front of the dielectric material, and a semicircular ground plane on the backside. In this design, the nested rings are used both as a radiation element and a band rejection element. The proposed antenna has a bandwidth of 9.03 GHz, which works efficiently in the range of 2.63 GHz-11.66 GHz with the dual notched bands of Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) at 3.15 GHz-3.66 GHz and wireless local area network (WLAN) at 4.9 GHz-5.9 GHz, respectively. The antenna has a compact size of 20 mm × 30 mm × 1 mm (0.177 × 0.265 × 0.0084 λ0) and is implemented using a flame-retardant type 4 (FR4) material. It has a maximum gain of approximately 4 dB in its operating range, and experimental results support the simulation predictions with high accuracy. The findings of this study imply that the designed antenna can be utilized in UWB applications.

  • In this paper, a dual-band T-shaped microstrip monopole antenna with a pair of slits for 2.4/5.2/5.8-GHz wireless local area networks (WLANs) is proposed. A pair of T-shaped slits is loaded on a T-shaped monopole antenna fed by microstrip line in order to obtain dual-band operation as well as to reduce the antenna size. It is demonstrated from experimental results that the proposed antenna can cover all the required bands for WLAN. The measured impedance bandwidth for VSWR<2 is about 5.7% (2.37-2.51GHz) in the lower frequency band and about 28.8% (4.76-6.35GHz) in the higher frequency band. The measured peak gains are about 1.33 dBi to 1.66 dBi in the 2.4GHz band, 3.50 dBi to 3.95 dBi in the 5.25GHz band, and 2.06 dBi to 2.34 dBi in the 5.8GHz band.

  • A printed Tee-type monopole antenna loaded by a pair of L-type slots is studied. The effects of position, width, and length of loaded slots on frequency bandwidth of the antenna are examined. As an examples, a compact dual band monopole antenna is designed for the ISM band $[2.4\sim2.48GHz,\;5.15\sim5.35GHz,\;and\;5.725\sim5.85GHz]$ use and the characteristics of the constructed antenna are studied experimentally.

  • In this paper, we proposed a compact printed monopole antenna with an inverted L-shaped slot for dual-band operations. Two operating frequency bands are achieved with the use of an inverted L-shaped slot etched on the radiating strip for bandwidth enhancement and a defected ground structure for return loss improvement in the higher frequency band. The measured results showthat the proposed antenna has impedance bandwidths (S11< -10 dB) of 270 MHz (1.81-2.08 GHz) and 340 MHz (2.36-2.70 GHz), covering the required bandwidths for PCS (1850.5-1989.5 MHz), CDMA 2000 (1850-1990 MHz), TD-SCDMA (1880-2025 MHz) and 2.4 GHz WLAN (2400-2484 MHz). The measured return loss of the proposed antenna has a good value of approximately 27.2 dB at 2.4 GHz WLAN. The antenna's peak gains also have a high value of 1.92 dBi at 2 GHz and 2.12 dBi at 2.45 GHz. The proposed antenna shows omnidirectional radiation patterns over the entire frequency range of interest.

  • In this paper, we designed and implemented the dual band monopole antenna for cellular CDMA(Code Division Multiple Access) and IMT-2000(International Mobile Telecommunication 2000) repeater. The antenna was designed by using 3D simulations program, HFSS(High Frequency Structure Simulator). Electrical characteristics were measured by using HP 8720C network analyzer and measured maximum S$\_$11/ was -10.9 dB for all frequency bands of interests in Cellular CDMA and IMT-2000. Simulation results for antenna gain at 859 MHz and 2027.5 MHz were 2.38 dBi and 4.02 dBi respectively with omni directional radiation pattern. The size of implemented antenna is compact and the antenna can be produced in low cost enough for commercialization.

  • In this paper, modified spiral monopole printed antenna for dual band operation in GPS(1.57~1.577 GHz) and WiBro(2.3~2.4 GHz), WLAN(2.4~2.48 GHz) is proposed. To control the frequency ratio of the antenna for dual band operation freely, distance between inner lines of the spiral is diversified by using the different current distribution between basic resonance frequency of spiral monopole antenna and harmonic resonance frequency$(3\lambda_H/4)$. And also the branch line is inserted. Bandwidth(-10 dB) of the antenna is measured 140 MHz(1.47~1.61 GHz) in basic resonance frequency and 420 MHz(2.29~2.71 GHz) in harmonic resonance frequency$(3\lambda_H/4)$. The peak antenna gains are measured 2.825 dBi in GPS(1.57 GHz), and 3.65 dBi in WiBro(2.35 GHz), and 4.564 dBi in WLAN(2.44 GHz).

  • A novel miniaturized artificial magnetic conductor (AMC) is proposed for dual-band operation. An AMC unit cell that employs four slots in the metallic patch is used to achieve miniaturization as well as easy control of the second/first resonant frequency ratio, which can be varied from 1.5 to 3.26 by simply changing the slot shape for a given metallic patch size. A dual-band antenna composed of a wideband monopole suspended over the proposed AMC surface is designed and tested to validate this approach. The measurements result in a satisfactory and good matching condition for the dual-band antenna.

  • A novel design of a simple circular ring with open-ended monopole antenna for wireless local area network (WLAN) applications is proposed in this article. The proposed antenna consists of an open-ended circular ring and $50-{\Omega}$ microstrip feed-line. The proposed antenna is capable of generating two separate resonant modes with good impedance-matching conditions. A prototype of the proposed antenna is designed, fabricated, and measured. Acceptable agreement between the measurement and simulation results is achieved. Experimental results show that the proposed antenna has operating bandwidths of 1.99-3.04 GHz and 5.08-6.1 GHz with a return loss of less than -10 dB, covering the required bandwidths of the 2.4/5.2/5.8-GHz WLAN standards. This is a microstrip antenna for IEEE 802.11a/b wireless local area networks applications. Meanwhile, the two-dimensional (2D) radiation patterns and three-dimensional (3D) gain performance of the antenna are also observed and discussed.
