  • An and hoc network is a collection of wireless mobile nodes forming a temporary network without the centralized administration. Due to the limited transmission range of wireless work interface, multiple networks "hops" maybe needed for one node to exchange data with adjacent node. In recent years, a variety of new routing protocol about ad hoc network was developed. This paper presents a new routing protocol based on the Dynamic Source Routing which is not suitable for the high mobility ad hoc network. The Enhanced DR adapts quickly to routing changes when node movement is frequent. When a trunk route is broken, this protocol will utilize the alternative route saved in the route to discovery quickly the new route. It improves the performance of the existing DSR algorithm, so that the negative impacts from weakness of DSR are reduced.

  • In MANET(Mobile Ad-hoc Network), unlike in wired networks, a path configuration should be in advance of data transmission along a routing path. Frequent movement of mobile nodes, however, makes it difficult to maintain the configured path and requires re-configuration of the path very often. It may also leads to serious problems such as deterioration of QoS in mobile ad-hoc networks. In this paper, we proposed a Reactive Routing Keyword (RRK) routing procedure to solve those problems. Firstly, we noticed it is possible in RRK routing to assign multiple routing paths to the destination node. We applied this feature into active networks and SNMP information based routing by storing unique keywords in cache of mobile nodes corresponding to present and candidate routings in a path configuration procedure. It was shown that the deterioration of QoS which may observed in Dynamic Source Routing(DSR) protocol was greatly mitigated by using the proposed routing technique.

  • The principal objective of this research is to evaluate the laboratory mechanical characteristics of color asphalt binders and mixtures. The dynamic shear rheometer (DSR) tests were performed to analyze the viscous and elastic behavior of asphalt binders. Various tests were also conducted to investigate the laboratory performance characteristics of color asphalt mixtures. The test results revealed that the values of $G^*$ and ${\delta}$ of modified color binders were higher than those of the conventional binders at low temperatures. These results are expected to increase the thermal cracking resistance of asphalt mixtures at low temperatures. It should be noted that the color asphalt mixtures with modified asphalt binder can be widely used as a common pavement material with a proper mix design.

  • In this dissertation, we propose a dynamic source routing protocol supporting asymmetric path for mobile ad hoc networks. At present, the existing dynamic source routing protocol supports only symmetric path for routing. However, in fact, there can exist unidirectional links due to asymmetric property of mobile termenals or current wireless environment. Thus, we implement a mobile ad hoc routing protocol supporting asymmetric routing path, which is fit for more general wireless environment. Especially, the proposed protocol uses an improved multipath maintenance method in order to perform rapid route reconfiguration when route error due to mobility is detected.

  • In this study, three types of synthetic fiber materials were evaluated, namely, DM20, SK78, and T147, to replace steel chains in shipbuilding and offshore fields with fiber chains as there is increasing demand for chains with lighter weights and improved usabilities. The strength and quasi-static stiffness were analyzed to select suitable yarns for the fiber chains. The durability of the yarn was evaluated by performing a 3-T (time to rupture) test as a specific tension level. The results of the experiment revealed excellent dynamic stiffness in DM20 and highest values of the windward and leeward stiffness in T147. 3-T linear design characteristic curves for a specific tension level were derived for the three types of fiber materials. The findings of this study can provide insights for improving strength and durability in fiber chain design.

  • This study aims to enhance the engineering education for non-majors by incorporating the concept of Global Citizenship Education and addressing the need for education that responds to climate and ecological changes. The study uses robot programming as a tool to foster the development of global citizens. Non-majors often struggle with producing more than just motionless forms or solid productions, due to a lack of understanding of mechanisms and coding. The study proposes the use of the Convergence D-SteamRobot (DSR) to address this issue by blending humanities and engineering. This is achieved by presenting problems through books to increase empathy, integrating simple machine mechanisms, and creating prototypes to solve self-defined problems. Through this process, learners determine the SDGs topic they want to solve and learn about the simple mechanical mechanism involved in producing the prototype. The educational model provides a constructivist learning environment that emphasizes empathy and exploration, encourages peer-learning, and improves divergent thinking and problem-solving skills.

  • In conventional on-demand mobile ad hoc routing algorithms, an alternate path is sought only after an active path is broken. It incurs a significant cost in terms of money and time in detecting the disconnection and establishing a new route. In this thesis, we propose proactive route selection and maintenance to conventional mobile ad hoc on-demand routing algorithms. The key idea for this research is to only consider a path break to be likely when the signal power of a received packet drops below an optimal threshold value and to generate a forewarning packet. In other words, if a path is lost with high probability, the neighboring node that may easily be cut off notifies the source node by sending a forewarning packet. Then the source node can initiate route discovery early and switched to a reliable path potentially avoiding the disconnection altogether. For the simulational study, network simulator(NS2) is used. The result of simulation shows that the algorithm significantly improves the performance of networks comparing to conventional on-demand routing protocols based on DSR and AODV in terms of packet delivery ratio, packet latency and routing overhead.

  • The central challenge in the design of ad-hoc networks is the development of dynamic routing protocol that efficiently finds route between mobile nodes. Several routing protocols such as DSR, AODV and DSDV have been proposed in the literature to facilitate communication in such dynamically changing network topology. In this paper, a Node Transition Probability (NTP) based routing algorithm, which determines stable routes using the received power from all other neighboring nodes is proposed. NTP based routing algorithm is designed and implemented using Global Mobile Simulator (GloMoSim), a scalable network simulator. The performance of this routing algorithm is studied for various mobility models and throughput, control overhead, average end-to-end delay, and percentage of packet dropped are compared with the existing routing protocols. This algorithm shows acceptable performance under all mobility conditions. The results show that this algorithm maximizes the bandwidth utilization during heavy traffic with lesser overhead.

  • Increase of multimedia information in Web requires a new method to manage and service multimedia documents efficiently. This paper proposes a conceptual object grouping method by fuzzy filtering, which is automatically constituted based on increase of multimedia documents. The proposed method composes subsumption relations between conceptual objects automatically using fuzzy filtering of the document objects that are extracted from domains. Grouping of such conceptual objects is regarded as subsumption relation which is decided by $\mu$-cut. This paper proposes $\mu$-cut, FAS(Fuzzy Average Similarity) and DSR(Direct Subsumption Relation) to decide fuzzy filtering, which groups related document objects easily. This paper used about 1,000 conceptual objects in the performance test of the proposed method. The simulation result showed that the proposed method had better retrieval performance than those for OGM(Optimistic Genealogy Method) and BGM(Balanced Genealogy Method).

  • The effects of conventional rolling (CR) and differential speed rolling (DSR) on the microstructure and mechanical properties of a copper alloy sheet were investigated in detail. A copper alloy with thickness of 3 mm was rolled to a 50% reduction at ambient temperature without lubrication with a differential speed ratio of 2:1; sample was then annealed for 0.5h at various temperatures from 100 to $800^{\circ}C$. Conventional rolling, in which the rolling speed of the upper and lower rolls is identical, was performed under the same rolling conditions. The shear strain introduced by the CR showed positive values at positions on the upper roll side and negative values at positions on the lower roll side. However, the shear strain showed a zero or positive value at all positions for the samples rolled by the DSR. The microstrucure and mechanical properties of the as-rolled copper alloy did not show very significant differences between the CR and DSR for the microstructure and mechanical properties. However, those properties showed very significant differences in the case of the annealed samples. The effects of rolling method on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the as-rolled and subsequently annealed materials are discussed in terms of the shear strain.
