  • This study was carried out to investigate the effects of seeding dates and cultivated period on the growth characteristics, dry matter yield and feed value of Teosinte new variety "Geukdong 6"[Zea mays L. subsp. mexicana (Schrad.) H. H. Iltis]for feed. The experimental design was arranged in a randomized block design with three replications. Treatments consisted of five time seeding dates, 10 May(T1), 25 May(T2), 10 June(T3), 25 June(T4) and 10 July(T5), and same time harvesting, 22 October. Therefore, growing period were 164 days(T1), 149 days(T2), 134 days(T3), 119 days(T4) and 103 days(T5), respectively. In growth stage at harvest time, T1, T2, T3, T4 and T5 were early flowering, end heading, middle heading, early heading and early heading stage, respectively. Plant length and dead leaf were highest in T1, but leaf width and number of leaf were highest in T2 than others (p<0.05). Leaf length, stem diameter and number of tiller were not significantly different among the treatments (p<0.05). Stem hardness was higher in order of T1(2.0)> T2(1.9) > T3=T4(1.7) > T5($1.2kg/cm^2$). Fresh yield and dry matter yield showed significantly higher as the sowing time was faster and the cultivation period was longer (T1 > T2 > T3 > T4 > T5, p<0.05). Crude protein, crude fat and TDN content were highest in T5, but ADF and NDF content were highest in T1 than others (p<0.05). T1, T2 and T3 showed significantly higher crude protein yield compared to T4 and T5 (p<0.05). Total digestible nutrients yield were higher in order of T1 > T2 > T3 > T4 > T5 (p<0.05), and relative feed value were higher in order of T5 > T4 > T3 > T2 > T1 (p<0.05). Based on the above results, seeding dates could be recommended from the early May to the late May, and it is efficient that the cultivation period is over 150 days for dry matter yield, crude protein yield and total digestible nutrients yield.

  • The objective of this study was conducted to calculate the damage of whole crop maize in accordance with abnormal climate using the forage yield prediction model through machine learning. The forage yield prediction model was developed through 8 machine learning by processing after collecting whole crop maize and climate data, and the experimental area was selected as Gyeonggi-do. The forage yield prediction model was developed using the DeepCrossing (R2=0.5442, RMSE=0.1769) technique of the highest accuracy among machine learning techniques. The damage was calculated as the difference between the predicted dry matter yield of normal and abnormal climate. In normal climate, the predicted dry matter yield varies depending on the region, it was found in the range of 15,003~17,517 kg/ha. In abnormal temperature, precipitation, and wind speed, the predicted dry matter yield differed according to region and abnormal climate level, and ranged from 14,947 to 17,571, 14,986 to 17,525, and 14,920 to 17,557 kg/ha, respectively. In abnormal temperature, precipitation, and wind speed, the damage was in the range of -68 to 89 kg/ha, -17 to 17 kg/ha, and -112 to 121 kg/ha, respectively, which could not be judged as damage. In order to accurately calculate the damage of whole crop maize need to increase the number of abnormal climate data used in the forage yield prediction model.

  • This experiment was to study the relationship between shoot and root system in perennial ryegrass at different stages of growth. The results are summarized as follows; 1. The dry weight of shoot was significantly correlated with the dry weight of root at both stages of growth. 2. The yield components of shoot and root systems were changed by the stages of growth. Thus, the dry weights of shoot and root were positive correlated with the number of tillers and roots at 60 days after sowing. But, the dry weights of shoot and root were positive correlated with the dry weight of root, the dry weight of tiller, length of plant and length of root at 90 days after sowing. 3. Maprirna variety was obtained a higher dry weights of shoot and root at 60 days after sowing, but, Alta variety was obtained at 90 days after sowing, respectively. 4. The dry weight of shoot was positive correlated with leaf area at both stages of growth. 5. The dry weight of shoot was significantly negative correlated with specific leaf weight at 60 days after sowing, but positive correlated with specific leaf weight at 90 days afikr sowing. 6. The dry weight of root was smcantly positive correlated with leaf area at 60 days after sowing, but not recognized at 90 days after sowing.

  • Proper nutritional management during the dry period is required to prevent metabolic disorders during the time of parturition and for potential increase milk yield during early lactation, especially under the heat of summer. The effect of prepartum diets on partitioning of nitrogen (N), calcium (Ca), phosphorus (P), magnesium (Mg) and potassium (K) during dry period and early lactation in summer was investigated. Nine cows were assigned to two groups and fed either control (group C: four cows) or high concentrate (group H: five cows) diets to meet 110% of their requirements before parturition. The proportion of concentrate in control diet was 35%, and that in the high concentrate diet was 45%. After parturition, all cows were fed the same diets ad libitum during lactation. Balance trials were conducted at 9, 8 and 7 days before parturition and at 12, 13 and 14 days after parturition. Before parturition, dry matter intake (DMI), DM and NFE digestibility in group C tended to be lower than those in group H. The retention of N (p<0.01) and P (p<0.05) in group C during the dry period was significantly lower than those in group H. The retention of Mg in group C during the dry period tended to be lower than in group H. The concentration of plasma NEFA in group C tended to be higher than in group H during dry period. The prepartum diet did not have an apparent effect on DMI and milk yield at 2 weeks after parturition and N, Ca, P, Mg and K balance after parturition.

  • In order to classify the varieties by the characters to evaluating potential winter hardiness was examined using the relationships between autumn growth of seedling plants and the dry weight of plant(DW), and yield components of 1st cutting in 16 varieties of perennial ryegrass grown under individual plant basis. The results are summarized as tollows:1. The dry weight of plant(L)W) was positively correlated with the number of tillers of seedling plants, but negatively correlated with seedling vigors of plants in autumn growth. 2. The dry weight of plant(L)W) indicated positively significant correlations with the dry weight of heading tillers(HDW), number of tillers per plant(NT), number of vegetative tillers(VNT), number of heading tillers(HNT), dry weight of a tiller(WT) and heading rates(HR) of 1st cutting.3. Relative tiller appearance rates(RTAK) corresponded with the seasonal patterns of tillering ability. Thevariety with a low values of relative tiller appearance rates(RTAR) showed vigorous tillering ability inautumn growth, but the variety with a high values of relative tiller appearance rates(KTAR) showedvigorous tillering ability in spring growth.4. The dry weight of plant per relative tiller appearance rates(DW/RTAR) indicated positively significant correlations with the dry weight of plant(DU7, plant length(PL), dry weight of heading tillers(HDW), number of tillers per plant(NT), number of heading tillers(HNrr), dry weight of a tiller(WT) and heading rates(HR) of 1st cutting.5. The varieties were classified into 2 groups by the dry weight of plant per relative tiller appearance rates(DW/RTAR). Thus. Manhattan, P-2, Tonga, Tove, Hella. I'eramo and Fiesta belong to the group of DW/RTAII>l. 0, and Maprima, Caliente, Tempo, Gambit, Magella, Prana. Reveille, Barlet and Bravo belong to the group of DW/RTAR

  • Self-and reciprocal-graftings were made between soybean varieties(cv.Hwangkeumkong, Paldalkong, Bokwangkong and Jangkyongkong) to assertain the relative role of shoot and root in soybean growth and yield determination. The influence of grafting per se on plant height and leaf number on main stem were negligible as evidenced by the insignificant differences between self-and reciprocal-graftings. The effect of grafting on flowering was different between different set of varieties grafted reciprocally. Self grafting delayed flowering 2 days and reciprocal grafting delayed another 2 days, in general. The effects of grafting on dry weights of different plant parts except pod were also insignificant. Reciprocal grafting increased pod dry weight in Hwangkeumkong and Paldalkong regardless whether they were used as scion or stock. Reciporcal grafting also influenced dry weights of Bokwangkong and Jangkyongkong significantly, but the response was different from those of Hwangkeumkong or Paldalkong. Jangkyongkong, when used as stock, decreased total dry weight of Bokwangkong significantly through the reduction of pod and stem dry weights. Stem diameter was increased by grafting, however, grafting decreased number of branches in all varieties. The average yields of self-and reciprocal-grafting were decreased by 11% and 24%, respectively, comparing to that of non-grafting, while average yield of reciprocal grafting was 14% lower than that of self grafting. Stem weight of grafted soybeans was decreased by 29-32% comparing to that of non-grafted soybeans, but the difference between self and reciprocal graftings was negligible. The genetic characteristics of scion was found to be more important than those of stock in determination of yield and stem weight. It was also indicated that varieties and characteristics are different in response to grafting.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the proper fertilizer application level and top-dressing method of Lycium chinense MILL in 1984 and 1985. The results obtained were summerized as follows; Stem length was 4cm longer, leaf area was 45-490$\textrm{cm}^2$ larger, dry matter weight per plant was 1.6-5g heavier and average yield of dry fruit of two years was higher as 183kg per l0a in double amount of potassium( 14kg/l0a) application than in standard level of potassium(7kg/l0a). Highly positive correlation was found between absorption amount of inorganic elements of phosporus(l%), nitrogen, potassium(5%) and dry matter weight. Proper fertilizer application level was 13.8kg(N), 14.2kg(P) and 14.3kg(K) per l0a. Dry fruit yield of top-dress-ing plot was 20% heigher than that of basal dressing plot through increase of leaf area per plant and dry matter weight per plant.

  • A field experiment was conducted to evaluate agronomic characteristics, forage quality and dry matter yield of Korean native wild hairy vetch(Vicia villosa Roth) and introduced vetch(Vicia) cultivars from Australia. Seeds were sown on 29 August 1998 and 29 September 1999 at the Livestock Experiment Farm, Keimyung College, Kyeongsan, Kyeongbuk. Vetch plants were harvested on 14 November 1998 and 5 May 1999 and 29 April 2000. 'Haymaker plus' and 'Cappelo woolly pod' (Vicia villosa ssp. dasycarpa(Ten.) Eav.) were higher than 'Namoi' (Vicia villosa ssp. dasycarpa(Ten.) Eav.) in winter survival and 'Popany' (Vicia benghalensis L.) and 'Victa' (Vicia sativa L.) did not overwinter from 1998 to 1999. 'Haymaker plus', 'Cappelo woolly pod', 'Namoi', Korean native wild hairy vetch and Chinese milk vetch were overwintered from 1999 to 2000, except 'Aneto common' (Vicia sativa L.). Fifty percent flowering was observed 23 April for 'Namoi', 24 April for 'Cappelo woolly pod' and 26 April for 'Haymaker plus' from 1998 to 1999. In 1999~2000, fifty percent flowering was observed 12 April for 'Namoi' and 'Cappelo woolly pod', 14 April for 'Haymaker plus', 23 April for Chinese milk, 30 April for 'Aneto common' and Korean native wild hairy vetch. Dry matter yield per hectare was significantly higher(p<0.05) for 'Haymaker plus', 'Cappelo' and 'Namoi' than 'Popany' and 'Vicata' from 1998 to 1999. In 1999-2000, dry matter yield per hectare was higher(p<0.05) for 'Namoi', 'Haymaker plus', 'Cappelo woolly pod' and Korean native wild hairy vetch than Chinese milk vetch (Astragalus sinicus L.) and 'Aneto common'. CP content was relatively high, but Chinese milk vetch and 'Aneto common' were lower than other cultivars. ADF(acid deterguent fiber) was low in Chinese milk vetch, but between the other cultivars were similar. According to the results obtained from this study, it is suggested that 'Haymaker plus' would be recommendable for fall sown vetch for dry matter production.

  • The plant height of hairy vetch was high to comparing with crimson clover, and that of crimson clover was the lowest while that of hairy vetch was the highest with one application of rare earth. The dry matter content of crimson clover and hairy vetch were 20.3% and 18.1%, respectively and the dry matter content between two species had little difference. In this study, the fresh yield of hairy vetch was higher than that of crimson clover, while the dry matter yield of crimson clover was higher than that of hairy vetch. But there were not significant difference between two species. Although the fresh and dry matter yield of both species were the high with one application of rare earth, there were not significant difference between three treatments of rare earth. The nutritive values of hairy vetch were higher than that of crimson clover Neural detergent fiber (NDF) and acid detergent fiber (ADF) content decreased with one application of rare earth. But crude protein (CP) and digestibility were not significant between rare earth applications.
