Cellulosic organic solid wastes such as bark and sawdust, and filter papers as a pure cellulose were pyrolyzed at $300^{\circ}C$ under nitrogen current and mixed current of nitrogen and air. Amounts of condensates collected in air, water, and dry ice-acetone cooling traps, noncondensable gases, and carbonized residues were surveyed. The components of volatile liquids condensed in dry ice-acetone trap were separated by means of gas chromatograph and identified by retention times and syringe reactions. Pyrolysis under nitrogen current produced 13.4∼29.6${\%}$ of tar, 0.01∼0.12${\%}$ of aqueous liquids, 0.24∼1.43${\%}$ of volatile liquids, 9.84∼42.41${\%}$ of noncondensable gases, and 44.0∼65.81${\%}$ of carbonized residues. Pyrolysis under mixed current decreased tar and condensable liquids, but increased noncondensable gases.Volatile liquids collected under nitrogen current separated into the same 19 components by Porapak Q column regardless of the materials and only difference among materials was relative amounts of components. Volatile liquids collected under mixed current separated into six components and mainly lower molecular weight compounds such as methanol and formaldehyde were produced. According to the retention times and syringe reactions, methanol, formaldehyde, acetone, acetaldehyde, acetic acid, and three other compounds presumably containing hydroxyl group in the molecular structure were identified out of 19 compounds.
South Korea, as the 10th country to join the Artemis program led by NASA, is actively supporting various researches related to the lunar exploration. In particular, the utilization of water as a resource in the Moon has been focused since it was discovered that ice exists at the lunar pole as a form of frozen soil. Information on the thermal conductivity of lunar regolith can be used to estimate the existence for ice water extraction by thermal mining. In this study, the vacuum pressure effect on thermal conductivity of KLS-1 was investigated with a DTVC (Dusty Thermal Vacuum Chamber). The reliability of KLS-1 was reconfirmed through comparison with thermal conductivity of known standard lunar regolith simulants such as JSC-1A. An empirical equation to assess thermal conductivity considering dry unit weight and vacuum pressure was proposed. The results from this study can be implemented to simulate lunar cryogenic environment using the DTVC.

Recently, the number of observations used in a data assimilation system is increasing due to the enormous amount of observations, including satellite data. However, it is not clear that all of these observations are always beneficial to the performance of the numerical weather prediction (NWP). Therefore, it is important to evaluate the effect of observations on these forecasts so that the observations can be used more usefully in NWP process. In this study, the adjoint-based Forecast Sensitivity to Observation (FSO) method with the KMA Unified Model (UM) is applied to two high-impact weather events which occurred in summer and winter in Korea in an effort to investigate the effects of observations on the forecasts of these events. The total dry energy norm is used as a response function to calculate the adjoint sensitivity. For the summer case, TEMP observations have the greatest total impact while BOGUS shows the greatest impact per observation for all of the 24-, 36-, and 48-hour forecasts. For the winter case, aircraft, ATOVS, and ESA have the greatest total impact for the 24-, 36-, and 48-hour forecasts respectively, while ESA has the greatest impact per observation. Most of the observation effects are horizontally located upwind or in the vicinity of the Korean peninsula. The fraction of beneficial observations is less than 50%, which is less than the results in previous studies. As an additional experiment, the total moist energy norm is used as a response function to measure the sensitivity of 24-hour forecast error to observations. The characteristics of the observation impact with the moist energy response function are generally similar to those with the dry energy response function. However, the ATOVS observations were found to be sensitive to the response function, showing a positive (a negative) effect on the forecast when using the dry (moist) norm for the summer case. For the winter case, the dry and moist energy norm experiments show very similar results because the adjoint of KMA UM does not calculate the specific humidity of ice properly such that the dry and moist energy norms are very similar except for the humidity in air that is very low in winter.
A study was conducted to examine the effects of light quality on the growth and phytochemical contents of ice plant in a closed-type plant production system. Seeds were sown in a 128-cell plug tray using rockwool. The seedlings were then transplanted into a deep floating technique system with recirculating nutrient solution (EC $1.5dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$, pH 6.5) in a closed-type plant production system. The nutrient solution was supplied at two weeks after transplanting with 2.0 mM NaCl concentration in all treatments for the development of the bladder cells. The three light sources with different light qualities used were as followed; FL (fluorescent lamps), combined RW LED (red:white = 7:3), and combined RBW LED (red:blue:white = 8:1:1) at $150{\mu}mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$ PPFD with a photoperiod of 14/10 hours (light/dark). The results showed that the FL treatment had the greatest growth enhancement effects on the leaf area and the fresh and dry weights of the shoots and roots. The SPAD values were significantly higher under the FL and RBW LED treatments, at 29.8 and 30.6, respectively. No significant difference was observed in salinity under all treatments. Chlorophyll fluorescence was significantly higher under the FL treatment. The total phenol content and antioxidant activity were the highest under the RBW LED treatment. The total flavonoid content was significantly higher under the RBW LED and FL treatments. Hence, the results indicate that the growth of ice plant was maximized under the FL treatment. The phytochemical contents were maximized under the RBW LED treatment.
Among several factors controlling soil compaction, temperature is the factor that varies with region and season. Although earthwork is performed in many projects in the cold regions of the earth, studies on quantifying soil compaction associated with temperature are limited. This experimental study investigates the temperature effect on the soil compaction of cohesionless soil. Jumunjin sand was selected for the tests to represent cohesionless clean sand, which is widely used as an engineering fill at petrochemical projects such as northern Alberta of Canada and Russia. The laboratory test program consists of performing a series of standard proctor tests varying temperature of soil samples ranging from $-10^{\circ}C$ to $17^{\circ}C$. Test results indicate that soil specimen volume expansion occurred from bulking and its range was 0% to 6% with zero above temperature. For increasing temperature from $0^{\circ}C$ to $17^{\circ}C$, water content corresponding to maximum volume (minimum dry unit weight) was decreased and water content corresponding to minimum volume (maximum dry unit weight observed after reaching minimum dry unit weight) was slightly increased with increasing temperature. In zero below temperature, dry unit weight gradually decreased with increasing water content. In this case, no bulking effect was found and soil specimen volume increased due to the higher unit volume of ice.

The general control method for Anti-lock Brake System(ABS) is that the wheel slip ratio is observed and the braking force is controlled in real time in order to keep the wheel slip ratio under the value of the best slip ratio. When a wheel runs on the state of the best slip ratio, the ground friction of the wheel approaches the highest value. The value of best slip ratio, theoretically, is known as the value between 10 and 20 % and it is dependant on the ground condition such as dry, wet and ice. It is an important parameter for the braking performance and affects the braking stability and efficiency. In this thesis, an experimental method is suggested, which is a reliable way to decide the best slip ratio through dynamo tests simulating aircraft taxiing conditions. The obtained best slip ratio is proved its validity by results of aircraft taxiing tests.

In order to reduce the compression power and to use the overall energy contained in LNG effectively, a combined cycle is devised and simulated. The combined cycle is composed of two cycles; one is an open cycle of liquid/solid carbon dioxide production cycle utilizing LNG cold energy in $CO_2$ condenser and the other is a closed cycle gas turbine which supplies power to the $CO_2$ cycle, utilizes LNG cold energy for lowering the compressor inlet temperature, and uses the heating value of LNG at the burner. The power consumed for the $CO_2$ cycle is investigated in terms of a solid $CO_2$ production ratio. The present study shows that much reduction in both $CO_2$ compression power (only 35% of the power used in conventional dry ice production cycle) and $CO_2$ condenser pressure could be achieved by utilizing LNG cold energy and that high cycle efficiency (55.3% at maximum power condition) in the gas turbine could be accomplished with the adoption of compressor inlet cooling and regenerator. Exergy analysis shows that irreversibility in the combined cycle increases linearly as a solid $CO_2$ production ratio increases and most of the irreversibility occurs in the condenser and the heat exchanger for compressor inlet cooling. Hence, incoming LNG cold energy to the above components should be used more effectively.

Sperm motility of processing step to frozen-thawing against decrease rate 12.67% to Prior freezing appeared of 33.84% and 49.37% in straw and pellet freezing and increase of 0.02 in acrsomal score to prior freezing appeared of 0.08 and 0.21 in straw and pellet freezing method to frozen-thawing
When first commissioned, the 1.6 km span 275kV Severn Crossing Conductor experienced large amplitude vibrations in certain wind conditions, but without ice or rain, leading to flashover between the conductor phases. Wind tunnel tests undertaken at the time identified a major factor was the lift generated in the critical Reynolds number range in skew winds. Despite this insight, and although a practical solution was found by wrapping the cable to change the aerodynamic profile, there remained some uncertainty as to the detailed excitation mechanism. Recent work to address the problem of dry inclined cable galloping on cable-stayed bridges has led to a generalised quasi-steady galloping formulation, including effects of the 3D geometry and changes in the static force coefficients in the critical Reynolds number range. This generalised formulation has been applied to the case of the Severn Crossing Conductor, using data of the static drag and lift coefficients on a section of the stranded cable, from the original wind tunnel tests. Time history analysis has then been used to calculate the amplitudes of steady state vibrations for comparison with the full scale observations. Good agreement has been obtained between the analysis and the site observations, giving increased confidence in the applicability of the generalised galloping formulation and providing insight into the mechanism of galloping of yawed and stranded cables. Application to other cable geometries is also discussed.

In this study, ignition tests of a gas turbine combustor were performed to evaluate an ignition loop at low temperature condition. An experimental setup was constructed to simulate low temperature condition with a heat exchanger using dry ice as a coolant. Various low temperature conditions could be created by controlling the amount of air though the heat exchanger. The results showed that ignition limit decreased with air temperature.
