  • A web GIS based database system of thermophysical property of rocks in Korea is under construction. Rock samples were randomly collected over the whole country and sample spacings were generally 1 to 10 km. Thermal diffusivity, spedific heat, thermal conductivity, specific heat, density and porosity were measured on a collection of 1,560 rock samples in the laboratory. The sampled rocks were classified into igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rock types and the variables were statistically studied. The thermal conductivity were compared with thermal diffusivity, porosity and dry density to define any correlations and the distribution of thermal conductivity is characterized by the geostatistical analysis. The optimal mapping of thermal conductivity is very useful as a practical design component for any geothermal systems.

  • Records regarding beef cuisine and its tenderization were identified in 38 publications. Old cookbooks, agricultural texts, and Joseon's encyclopedias addressed the subject 411 times. The beef recipe was as follows: cutting 184 times, seasoning 112 times, moist heat cooking 196 times, dry heat cooking 129 times, and drying off 33 times. Recipe also used main ingredients 194 times, sub ingredients 203 times, garnish eight times, and stock six times. Regarding seasoning and flavoring materials, there were a total of 41 types of spices, tenderizers, and others written 839 times. There are two main types of tenderizing beef: physical and chemical methods. A total of 18 types of natural tenderizers were written 57 times in the recipe.

  • Three kinds of pretreatment methods were used for selectivel isolation of soil actinomy cetes. One hundred and six strains were isolated on Bennet's agar and 114 strains were on humic acid-vitamin agar from 5 domestic soil samples. All of these isolates were identified to the genus level based on morphological and physiological characheristics. Among three methods, dry heat was most effective to isolate many different strains including rare actinomycetes. On genus, Bennet's agar was effective for selective isolation of Nocardia but bumic acid-vitamin agar for another rare actinomycetes.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of geometrical structure on the heat transfer of insulating nonwovens. Commercially available single and double layered polyester nonwovens have used. Thermal conductivity, k and thermal conductance, h were measured by using a constant temperature sandwich type device at dry and wet state. The results obtained were as follows: 1. Double layered nonwovens showed slightly lower thermal conductance and higher warmability than single layered nonwovens. 2. As moisture regain increased, double layered nonwovens showed higher increasing rate of thermal conductivity than single layered nonwovens.

  • In this experiment, flux method was applied for preparing ferroxplana at low temperature, The common salt was used as a flux. The mole ratio of flux to Zn$_2$Y was varied with 0, 6.5, 13, 26 and 52 in dry ball-mixing. Zn$_2$Y was obtained after heat treatment of the mixed powder. Crystallization, particle morphology and magnetic properties of the prepared powder were investigated using XRD, VSM and SEM. The ferroxplana powder of 2-4 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ was obtained with the mole ratio 26 by heat treating at the temperature of 110$0^{\circ}C$. The coercivity(H$_{c}$) and saturation magnetization(M$_{s}$) of the ferroxplana were 282Oe and 64.5emu/g, respectively.y.y.

  • When the polyester/cellulosic fiber mixed fabrics were treated with sodium hydrogensulfate for burn-out printing, it is examined how the effects of process conditions as concentration of acid, fixation temperature and fixation time act onto the properties of the polyester ground fabrics. The print paste, indalca solution, was mixed with sodium hydrogensulfate and glycerine, and then screen-printed on the fabrics. The properties of the polyester ground fabrics after removing away the cellulosic fibers were investigated. The yellowness index and the breaking load of polyester ground fabrics affected by the process conditions, especially dry heat fixation temperature.

  • One dimensional numerical modeling was carried out for the melting behavior of dry snow and the unsaturated flow when heat was supplied from the bottom surface. Discrepancy between the previous experimental data and the present numerical results is substantially reduced by considering the density change of water permeation layer due to the infiltration of meltwater. In the parametric study for effective thermal conductivity, it was found that the effect of this parameter to the behavior of snow melting is minor. Sensitivity analysis showed that the melting time is most sensitive to changes in supplied heat flux, snow temperature, and bulk density, whereas snow bulk density and residual saturation have a significant effect on the height of water permeation layer in snow.

  • This study focuses on monitoring the surface UHI in a tropical city of Bangkok in both spatial and temporal dimensions based on MODIS- and TM -derived land surface temperature (LST). The spatial extension and magnitude of the surface UHI are explored for days and nights as well as its variations through the dry (least-clouded) season. Surface UHI growth between 1993 and 2002 is mapped using highresolution LANDSAT TM thermal bands. UHI patterns are, then, analyzed in association with land/vegetation covers derived from high-resolution ETM+ and ASTER satellites and ancillary data.

  • The effect of matrix phase (austenite, pearlite, martensite) on the low stress abrasion resistance in the chromium-carbide-type high Cr white iorn hardfacing weld deposites has been investigated. In order to examine matrix phase, a series of alloys with different matrix phase by changing the ratio of Cr/C system by heat treatment were employed. The alloys were deposited twice on a mild steel plate using self-shielding flux cored arc welding process. The low stress abrasion resistance of the alloys against sands was measured by the Dry Sand/Rubber Wheel Abrasion Test(RWAT). Even though formation of pearlite phase in the matrix showed higher hardness than that of austenite, there was no observable difference in wear resistance between the pearlite and austenite phase for the same amount of chromium-carbide in the matrix. On the other hand, the formation of martensitic phase,, from heat treated austenitic alloys (high content of Cr), enhanced wear resistance due to its fine secondary precipitates.

  • Twenty nine HRV models have been tested for last two years since the attestation system has been started by KARSE. It is the objective of the present study to analyze the performance test results. Uncertainty analysis has been conducted to find the effects of measured variables on the uncertainties of test results. The uncertainty of enthalpy is found to be affected by the uncertainty of wet bulb temperature significantly, but not by that of dry bulb temperature for the present range of parameters. The uncertainty of effective enthalpy efficiency is calculated to be 6%P for the cooling condition, and 3%P for the heating condition approximately. In order to reduce the uncertainty of the test results, the uncertainty of wet bulb temperature should be minimized and the indoor/outdoor test conditions should be modified so as to increase the enthalpy difference.
